I don't know if you listened - but he admitted that he hurt the team in the playoffs last year.
 
Sometimes a player needs a kick in the ass to really develop that drive that forces them to get better (see Seguin trade, Thornton trade, etc).
 
Maybe this is what Marchand needs. I've been as down on the guy as anyone on this board, but I'm encouraged by his comments.

I was in a meeting so sadly missed it. Good to hear he acknowledged it and it wasn't without merit that he was criticized. But yeah, if it gets his ass into a higher gear for this year then whatever works..
I'm mainly just feeling ornery because of the start of the season.

They've done this with all of their young guys and have done a very good job developing from within. I have no problem with how they're handling Spooner based on their history alone.
