Last season ended in disappointment. This season won't and the journey begins tomorrow. Lets do this. Go B's.

My stab at the lineup:

Lucic - Krejci - Eriksson
Marchand - Bergeron - Smith
Spooner - Soderberg - Fraser
Paille - Kelly - Robins

Chara- Hamilton
Bartkowski - Seidenberg
Krug - McQuaid

Rask
Svedberg

I'd prefer Cunningham or Caron over Robins, but I would think against the Flyers they play Robins. I'd also like to get a look at Pastrnak, but he is MIA from practice today and may be on his way back to Sweden.

Between here and everywhere.
I'd be pretty disappointed if they didn't at least give him a 9 game tryout.

Either way - thank god it's hockey season. It's been way too long.

I really am looking forward to see if the 3rd line can produce.  Its young, but I think Soderberg has found his stride at center and hopefully he can enable the two rookie wings.

From what I saw, I think the bottom 2 pairings are Seidenberg-McQuaid and Krug-Miller.  Krug is still a defensive liability and Miller is a better pairing for him.  McQuaid is ready for Top-4 minutes.

Krejci is questionable for tomorrow. Minor issue from Saturday's game, but it didn't heal as they hoped so we'll see tomorrow.

Robins made it. What's the o/u on his TOI before his first fight? 10 seconds? 20 seconds?

Wednesday is band practice night. Normally I'd say f it and cancel - it's opening night fer crissakes. But my drummers wife is due with their first kid any second (actually just over a week past due date), so it would be our last rehearsal for some time.

Which means.... Have the kid already!!!

It would be pretty ballsy to start Spooner on the LW 3rd line spot. I like it.

Anyway, hockey related: how has Bartkowski looked in preseason?  I thought he was absolutely dreadful towards the end of the season and the playoffs last year and the emotional-wreck-fan in me wanted him fired into the sun.  Has he looked better?  Looking at the roster, it seems that they're expecting him to play somewhat significant minutes this year and that frightens me greatly.

6 pack of Smoke & Dagger acquired.  So ready for tomorrow night.
I've got growlers of their Wet Hop and Pumpkin in my fridge.  I noticed too late that they had a special beer available made with Sichuan peppercorns or I would have got that instead of the Pumpkin.

Their Copper Legend (Oktoberfest) is absolutely outstanding. One bad thing about moving back into the city is that I'm no longer a mile away from there.

Although I am within walking distance of Trillium and the Harpoon Beer Hall now!

I've never had a Trillium brew before, but I see they are available at a shop in Concord.  I shall have to seek them out.  Recommendations?

I was in Framingham for some other business and decided "fuck it" and went in.  The fact that you can get 3oz tasters for ~$1.50 of basically their entire menu is nice.  I was able to split sampling everything with my wife and only had about a total of 2 beers and could still drive home (with my trunk full of beer).

Yeah, it's a pretty great little spot in a really dumpy area to get good, cheap beer.

I dunno if I'd say cheap. I'd walk out of there spending $60-80 bucks on like 12-18 beers total. I miss the days when the samples were all free. We used to get good and banged up, then drop $60 bucks on beers to take home.

But you're definitely right on the good part.

A growler is like 6 to 13 bucks depending on what you get. A buck+ to two bucks+ a beer ain't bad. At that quality, I think you'd pay a buck or two more a draft in Boston.

Compared to other spots in the 'Ham it's expensive, I guess. But again, quality.

I think the minimum for a growler's like $9 now for Jabby. Their prices have (rightly) increased.

I've liked pretty much all of the beers they've made. My personal favorite right now is the Congress St IPA which is a very juicy IPA. I could drink a lot of the Fort Point Pale Ale though.

Between here and everywhere.
Holy shit. This Marchand interview on 98.5 is intense.

Regarding some members of the media in Boston - "I'd love to see some of these guys fired for doing a terrible job at actually reporting the news."

If you're not listening, Marchand is pissed.

Apparently he's seen and heard all the negative press on him since last season, and he's got a massive chip on his shoulder.

This could be a very, very good year from him if he can transfer his anger into on ice play.

Color me excited.

Also - in case anyone was wondering, the writer Marchand was specifically referencing with the Marleau for Marchand deal is none other than Jimmy Murphy.

How that guy still has a job is beyond me.

I hate to be that guy but you know what would have been a great way to stop some of the negative press?
Scoring a goal in the playoffs.
But if it puts a chip on his shoulder and leads to a big year then whatever works.

I don't know if you listened - but he admitted that he hurt the team in the playoffs last year.

Sometimes a player needs a kick in the ass to really develop that drive that forces them to get better (see Seguin trade, Thornton trade, etc).

Maybe this is what Marchand needs. I've been as down on the guy as anyone on this board, but I'm encouraged by his comments.

What puts me solidly in Marchand's corner on this is how well he's been playing so far in the Preseason.  I have not seen a post-game article where he/Bergeron played that did not talk about the mid-season form chemistry they had already, and how they were clearly a step ahead of everyone else.  He came to camp this year ready to shut people up, and he's doing that already.

Now, unless he continues to perform, all that is going to be meaningless, but I think given what we've seen so far, I'm hopeful and optimistic that it can continue.

My revised guess at the lineup:

Lucic - Soderberg - Eriksson
Marchand - Bergeron - Smith
Spooner - Kelly - Fraser
Paille - Cunningham - Robins

Chara - Hamilton
Bartkowski - Seidenberg
Krug - McQuaid

Rask

4th line center I'm not sure about. It's hard to get a feel for the bottom of the roster with all the paper transactions they made. Caron was sent down, and Ferlin, Subban and I think Cunningham all "made it." Subban will get sent back, but I don't know about Ferlin (Krejci corresponding move?) or Cunningham.

Between here and everywhere.
My hope is that with Krejci out, they try to leave the second and third lines alone, to let them begin/continue to build their chemistry.

That being said - I'd like to see the lines as

Lucic/Spooner/Loui
Marchand/Bergeron/Smith
Kelly/Soderberg/Fraser
Robins/Cunningham/Paille
