How does soxhop start this thread? Don't shy on Porcello this series. Drew, good on you. Plunk Altuve first at bat.

I actually like Pomeranz here. Keuchel had a rocky second half though he seemed to right the ship during September. That said his WHIP was way up so its not like the guy regained his dominance. All the Sox need to do to make this a series is win this game. They will worry about the game after that when they need to. This series isn't over...

A win means it's a best of 3 with home field advantage. Make it happen.

Yesterday sucked, but when the Sox win today it's 1-1 heading back to Fenway. That's a nice position.

I want Farrell to go full Playoff Tito today. Pull Pom for Price if it starts going poorly. Use the incredible pen for 6-7 innings if need be. Bats, please wake up.

    Win!

Pom has actually been better than Sale for a couple months now.

I'm hoping he regains his velocity and pitches a gem.

At least we don't have to wait long.

Pedroia singlehandedly ruined two rallies yesterday. Someone needs to slap the fuck out of that little shit

Pom will dominate like he did last week. Bring it back to Boston tied 1-1 for the FIST!

Don't talk that way about Pedey, please. Which is not to say that I disagree with the judgment that his base-running stinks. Bill Ripken did an analysis of RS running the bases and concluded that they are generally very successful, owing to the inability of other teams' fielders to catch them. But that doesn't apply in the post-season, b/c the level of fielding is much higher. Plus, Pedroia is slowed by his bad knee. So, someone needs to talk to him. If only the RS had some coaches who could do that. . . .

We have a good pen and the starters need to hand over a lead or tie. If the Sox fall behind to a quality pitcher, I’m ok with pushing it like Pedroia did in the second.

We’re in this. Pom needs to execute. I’m assuming CY is dh and we need something from him.

We just need Pomeranz to keep us in the game today. Get ~4 innings out of him, and be ready with the hook when necessary.

Marrero at 3rd today was really the only thing I wanted from Farrell this series. Hope he keeps up his record against LHP.

The houston lineup reminds me of red sox 2003-4 lineups. Fortunately, pomeranz has turned into a soft tossing lefty over the past month, so he could become the perfect weapon against the Astros.

he's also looked a bit lost at the end of the season and yesterday.

I would still have him in the starting lineup but it's not a clear cut decision. then again, when Young puts up another 0-fer...

Astros fan; not here to troll.

Keuchel doesn't make it out of the 3rd. Pom deals. Sox 6-1. Game One becomes a distant memory.

Our lineup today, except Correa and (duh) Altuve, can't seem to figure out Drew and your lineup today owns extreme ground ball pitchers like DK. Sucks for me, good for you. See you Sunday in Boston.

Bill Ripken on MLBN showed a comparison of Devers' head in ABs yesterday vs. on the big HR against Chapman. He definitely "kept his head in there" vs Chapman but didn't on the one or two ABs they showed from yesterday. SSS and all that. Maybe Farrell or Chili will see that comparison and point it out to Devers. Sure. Regular season, Young had an OPS of .590 vs. LHP, Devers 1.074. Young is playing today. This is criminal negligence.

Maybe JF is actually trying to get fired. Then it becomes intentional, not negligent.

    I certainly feel emotionally distressed.

As unexpected as yesterdays thrashing was, I would be equally not surprised if the Sox kicked their ass today.
