Plenty of words from plenty of sources already on this with plenty more to come, I don't need to add much except this is what these guys work for all year and this is what we watch for. Two really good teams with loaded rosters up and down, may the better team win.

JA Happ against Chris Sale, 7:30 PM.

I'm going to be pretty aggressive about deleting or even banning trolling attempts in the Yankee threads/section during this series, fair warning.

Good luck. Should be a great series. A shame they have to play each other in the ALDS.

love the video, will try to curtail the trolling.

Happ needs to get through the first couple of innings unscathed (relatively) to keep this from getting out of hand. If he pitches well then no matter what version of Sale shows up i like our chances against their pen.

    GO YANKS!

We enjoy banter with Red Sox fans who frequent this board and occasionally drop in on Yankee game threads. Good baseball fans abound here at SOSH. Let's enjoy the series. When it's over, exult ... or suffer in silence. There is no middle ground for any of us.

After much soul-searching, I have decided that, for this series, I hate the Yankees less than the Sox. So consider me on board the Judge/Stanton/Voit macho homerun express.

Choo choooo. You’ll never look back, but in case you do, I promise to be a Rays fan should they ever face the Sox.

Thanks, guys. I hope to call those favors in, as soon as next season!

The Yankees feel dangerous to me. Peaking at the right time. Judge looked like a grownup playing Little League on that homer in the WC game. You’re going to need to cobble together lots of bullpen innings, I think. Hope Boone was paying attention during all those Rays series.

Is it 730 yet? I get the benefit of having these games at 130 today and tomorrow. Back to NY on Monday

If this series exhausts both bullpens, Houston will be the ultimate winner, especially if the Astros only need three or four games to dispose of Cleveland.

I think using Eovaldi as a starter could backfire on Boston because he seemed like an obvious weapon to throw into the bullpen. Though, maybe Rodriguez will accomplish the same thing.

Plus I think the Yankees have seen him enough now to beat him.

Boston has a few Curtis Leskanic candidates in its bullpen, unheralded pitchers who rise to the occasion and get a few key outs. NY bullpen has proven relievers who are expected to get big outs.
The one thing we've learned over the years is how precious each out is in the late innings of a Red Sox-Yankees playoff game. You can't give either team extra outs.

I have pretty low expectations for tonight. A run or two in the first would go a long way toward easing my worry, though. Especially if it involved a Judge or Stanton bomb.

It's Fenway. No lead is safe. For either team. I picked a bad week to quit smoking crack!

Same lineup as expected, this is game #6 they have played together this season.

    McCutchen LF
    Judge RF
    Hicks CF
    Stanton DH
    Voit 1B
    Gregorius SS
    Andujar 3B
    Sanchez C
    Torres 2B

Also worth noting how much better this lineup is than last year's (spoilered to avoid scaring Yankee fans), only four guys in both tonight's lineup and last year's wild card lineup:

    Gardner LF
    Judge RF
    Sanchez C
    Gregorius SS
    Castro 2B
    Bird 1B
    Hicks CF
    Ellsbury DH (!)
    Frazier 3B

The Providence Channel 12 sports anchor just announced breathlessly from Fenway Park that this series matches "the two best teams in the American League."

Stat posted with the caveat that CLE/NY last year was one of the other nine, CLE won game 1:

"in the 2-2-1 LDS format, 27 of 36 teams that won Game 1 (75 percent) won the series."

I hope Happ is getting this zone. Strike one to Hicks was off the plate.

Looks like Sale is hitting all his spots. Waiting back on pitches will likely result in 1-2 hole.

Of course, as I write this, Hicks works a full count.

I'll take 24 pitches, though I'd rather Stanton take the walk Sale was trying to give him.

    He just won't go away.

Much better second inning from Happ, although the bottom of the order.

Yankees need to grind every AB, I can't say it enough.
