Even after Chara can no longer cut it as a top 4 D he might still be worth keeping around for a few more years as the greatest enforcer in league history. Imagine just cutting him loose for 20-30 fights per year?

He's signed through next year, and his cap hit goes down ~3M next year. He's ending his career as a Bruin.

Right.

I'm just saying he could play several more years after that as a 3rd pairing D-man and world class enforcer. Not saying he would actually want to do that, but he just ragdolls everyone he squares off against.

But up to this point he's always been too valuable to lose ice time for majors, which is why he only fights a handful of times per year.
