But Holgate doesn't seem to lose it until the verbal altercation. Lip readers on Twitter are claiming Firmino said: CE TA LOUCO? CE TA LOUCO? FILHO DA PUTA,” which translates as: “Are you crazy? Are you crazy? Son of a bitch!”

http://www.empireofthekop.com/2018/01/05/what-firmino-actually-said-to-holgate-despite-racist-allegation/

The Echo has a good outline on the procedure the FA follows in cases like this.

http://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/roberto-firmino-mason-holgate--14120511

Given that outlined procedure I can't see how Firmino would be facing any punishment in the event of conflicting statements.

The other thing to consider is that Liverpool players have been subjected to racist abuse this year - so I imagine the Club will be pressing Firmino to own up to it if he did, indeed racially abuse Holgate.

Still don't understand why it wasn't a yellow card on Holgate in the first place.
Seeing as I’m not a Portuguese speaker is there anything close to “puta” that is a racial slur? Maybe in Spanish? If Holgate thought he heard something like that it could explain his reaction.

From what I saw and what I have read it occurred after the shove. Regardless, racial slurs are unacceptable. Of course, to your point, shoving a player into the stands is also unacceptable.

If Firmino said something out of line he should be punished. There is no doubt that Holgate was out of line and should have been punished. Can he be punished now?
This is what I saw when he mouthed “puta” in slow-mo after the shove when the announcers were speculating that there was a spitting incident. There was no evidence of that. Hopefully it was just the swear and an overreaction from Holgate who seemed very emotional.

Really questionable decision by the referee to allow City the quick free kick after directing a Burnley player away and still standing beside the kicktaker.

City take the lead immediately after off a sweet backheel by Gundogan to Aguero

“Son of a bitch” is a direct, word for word translation, but it isn’t a contextual translation. In Portuguese it’s about as vile as you can go with more of a “mother fucker” or “your mom is a whore” sort of vibe.

It’s a derby and emotions run high regardless of the stakes. Holgate needs to be severely punished. Firmino should likely sit a game out as well.

Can they really suspend a player for this though. The FA Investigation is strictly over racial abuse. If none is found .. and according to the Echo link above - they need real evidence - not just the player's word - can they turn around and give him a game for Unsportsmanlike Conduct or some such? Especially given the provocation.

Sorry. I wasn’t clear. Firmino should sit because of his horrible neck tattoo.

In seriousness... By the letter of the law, he should get off. By intent... He reached as deeply as he could. That should earn a game. Probably won’t.

I just saw Conte's post match comments on Mourinho. Called Mourinho a little man and almost made me die of choke laughter while drinking coffee

So with 3 such matches to play, Premier League teams facing lower-level competition are 6-4-1 (good work, Stoke). Leicester, Bournemouth, Swansea and Chelsea will all get home replays against their EFL competition.

Tomorrow West Ham plays at Shrewsbury Town (League One), Spurs host AFC Wimbledon (League One, and a sentimental favorite of mine), and Arsenal goes to Forest (Championship).

Slight correction, Bournemouth have to travel to Wigan for the replay.

Arsenal deserves to lose, but this officiating has been horrific. 4 minutes of extra time after 3 goals, two of which were PKs, a 3 minute interested, a red card, and the refs spending two minutes conferring after a PK due to the double touch. Should honestly be 7 or 8.

I don’t know about you guys, but I love watching all the FA Cup matches.. the big clubs going down to the glorified High School stadiums.. it’s like the Sox playing against AA team

And as a City fan nice to see the gunners take it in the shorts

All good points. Gunners deserved the loss but that stoppage time number was a joke. Match fixing levels of bad.

Remember Kieran Dowell. He had an assist and a goal on a penalty for Forest. He's an Everton loanee, attacking mid, who's had an excellent year for Forest and also was on the England team that won the U20 World Cup.

Neither Palace nor Brighton sending out full-strength sides for the derby. Surprised, but not surprised given how thin Palace's squad is right now.

And a LOT of empty seats at the Amex for Brighton. Palace fans showed up, not sure why so few Brighton supporters did. What gives @dirtynine ? :)

Edit: attendance under 50% for a derby? Even if it’s an early FA Cup match, that’s pretty embarrassing for Brighton.

Late to posting, but I watched Shrewsbury-West Ham yesterday. Hats off to Shrewsbury who played very hard and very smart all day, creating several good chances.

Hats on to the keepers.

But really, just a piss poor showing from West Ham, who were listless from the start. It’s hard to picture this squad with Moyes at the helm finding the fire necessary to stay up.

Bakary Sako just scores goals. Something out of nothing there. I wish everyone had half the confidence he does.

That was fucking atrocious defending.

And what is the point of VAR if you let balls off a player’s arm in as goals?
