So Bergeron's game-worn jersey is up to $5k+, by far the biggest item in tonight's auction. Oh, and he had the game-winner tonight too.

Must be nice to be Patrice Bergeron-Cleary.

3 takeaways from that game:
1. The Habs aren't nearly as good as their record to Dec.1 indicated
2. The Habs likely likely aren't nearly as bad as their record since would indicate
3. Karma's a bitch

The Bruins win Friday and they're 2 points out of first place.

Think about that for a minute - Montreal started the season like 20-0, Florida went on a million game winning streak and the Bruins have just been chugging along.

I think they need to buy at the deadline and go for this thing.

They lose Thursday (not Friday) and they're 1 point out of missing the playoffs entirely.

And the Bruins season has been the opposite of chugging along. They might be considered the streakiest team in the conference, so who knows which way this will shake out.

This has been their season (stolen from Jack Edwards twitter). It's definitely cherry picked start and end points, but it's been a very up and down season for them.

I think that's what makes this trade deadline both interesting and scary. There's a talented team there, but if they hit the playoffs and go on one of those 4 game downslides it's all over.

I'd be apprehensive about buying, too, if I was in charge. I think the question is, do Neely and Sweeney think there is somebody out there who can make this team more consistent, and can they be had at a reasonable price? I am certainly not the one who can answer that, but I really think if Krejci comes back healthy and they add a #3/4 defenseman, there aren't many Eastern Conference teams who would be happy playing them in the playoffs, especially if Tuukka is playing like he did last night.

right here
The other thing that makes buying scary is that everyone is still in it so prices are going to be insanely high for the 1 or 2 guys available.
I'm scared. Hold me.

You're right, Thursday. I keep thinking today is Thursday for some reason.

To me that's the absolute definition of chugging along. They're not blasting past anyone, they're two steps forward, one step back.

And I was implying with my post that it was crazy that other teams have gone on crazy streaks and a team like the Bruins have a shot at 1st place with their erratic play. It wasn't clear, but your post helps highlight the other half of the story.

It's pretty apparent that the East is wide open this year and if they get hot, they have just as much of a shot as anyone else to make the finals.

They've had President's cup teams that have gone on shitty 4 game slides in the playoffs and have been one and done, so that argument doesn't hold water for me. This year, more than any, they just need to get in and see what happens. They have a gritty enough team that they could make some noise and having to go through these ups and downs will give them some experience to overcome a slide in the playoffs.
