Wish we had a reliever like that.
I was hoping Pomeranz could be that guy to come in and pitch to Kemp in that spot but no go.
Fuck the Astros. The Ohio State of pro sports
I actually thought they should have walked Kemp and make them bat the shitty 9th hitter.
Heart of order, 1-2-3, no fucking around.
On to tomorrow. Go Seattle.
Thing is, they really aren't outside of the Osuna acquisition. But yeah, fuck the Astros!
The game started with the Price is Right, but ended with the Gong Show.
Really hope he is left off the ALDS roster, but I know that is a pipe dream. Dude got his contract and has completely loafed when he wasn't injured.
He doesn't need an audition, we know who he is.
I still believe Hembree with runners on in the 7th and Brasier to start the 8th would have given them a much better chance.
Radical idea, give EdRo the Price role of last October. Live with Eovaldi as 4th starter. With the travel days you could get 4-6 outs every game from him if necessary.
Dombrowski's aching Achille's heal acted up again.
those last 3 innings are gonna be tricky in October
Excellent idea. The problem I see is Porky as number 3
I personally agree but with Barnes fading lately, might as well try...
The seeing-eye hits ultimately don't excuse him either. Springer's was on a badly located FB, deserved to be a hit.
again, they deserved to get out of the 7th with the lead but Kemp just had a hitter's hit, credit to him. well-fought game from the defending champs
So when does Eovaldi become a reliever?
Leon is a lock... really hope Swi shows enough. I don't like Vaz either
And use Wright when you need a reliever before the 7th.
don't blame Hector
Joe Kelly has pitched 353 and 2/3rds innings for the Boston Red Sox. If he pitches a clean 8th tonight he's the playoff setup man? C'mon now.
someone mentioned Cora said Phillips is taking grounders at 1st.
they must be seeing Moreland's usual 2nd half collapse and are preparing for that contingency....
Or he’s still hurt. Need a backup contingency for Pearce taking over.
To me, the outcome of this one is of secondary concern. What is ultimately much more important at this point is what Price was able to do.
The BP sucks now. Just have to hope its better when games count in October
also important though is the Sox got rallies going against Cole but rarely finished them off. the main culprits were Andrew Benintendi and JD Martinez, too.
Cole vs Price would probably be a game 2 matchup (Verlander vs Sale being game 1). they will need to bury the chances in October against top pitching
I was listening to most of the game on radio while Price pitched, and they were saying he wasn't getting close calls. With robot umpires, Price could have gotten through the seventh, which would have changed the entire story tonight.
People need to re-acquaint themselves with how short the bullpen was in the playoffs of 2013
Or more versatility in case of other injuries, Pearce and Swihart can play some OF, so if Phillips can play 1B it gives them a RHH to cover almost all IF or OF injuries.
Per Cora... Barnes (left hip inflammation) was Unavailable...
Problem is Tazawa and Breslow were really good. Not seeing who we shorten it to here. I think Kimbrel is going to be tested for 4+ outs a lot.
Franklin Morales, remember him?
Kelly in the 8th made no sense and now we know why he pitched. Sigh
Breslow was good for about half the playoffs and then he sucked. It was basically Taz and Koji and random contributions from people like Workman and Doubront and Lackey. Playoff Farrell actually did a hell of a job with that pitching staff. Cora has the pieces to do something similar this year, we just have no idea who those pieces will end up being yet.
Workman, Doubrant, Tazawa and Uehara all had ERAs under 2 that postseason.
Exactly. Doubront had an ERA of 4.32 that regular season and Workman's was 4.97. At this point in 2013, there was no indication that those two would turn into hot hands in the playoffs. It's up to Cora to figure out who that will be this year.
Doesn't explain why they didn't use Hembree in the situation he's been really good at, and even more reason to save Brasier for the 8th.
This game sucked
Agreed, but also more important than the outcome is the bullpen failing in a tight game against a good offense again
Germany in the 40s was a good country outside Hitler
Himmler, Goebbels, Heidrich...OK, Hitler did find and promote all of them.
I mean they had a pretty good showing during the Atlanta series, aside from Pom of course. 4 earned in just over 14 innings of work.
I guess Screwston got applied to Boston instead of Houston.
