Well that ended up OK.
Just got home and didn't get a chance to watch the game but I find it highly unlikely that the Sox will win any of the remaining games against Atlanta and Cleveland.
It was so obvious there must be a good reason we haven't seen him again.
Series Won: Check
There are no tie breakers in MLB. They play a game to decide who goes on.
I Love this DIRTY WATER TV!
They could send Guerin Austin to winter ball in Arizona to try her hand at in-booth commentary and she definitely would be better than Lyons.
Especially with that FATAL FLAW
He can’t get that many swings and misses with the fastball. Seems like he strikes guys out with the other stuff, and if he can throw both the k-curve and change well, he’ll succeed. But once they lay off that and force him to throw his fastball, we get a nine-pitch at-bat.
We'll never get to 95 wins. This team's just not good enough.

Cora on Weds. lineup: "People are gonna go wild tomorrow, fantasy owners and all that. Sorry about them, ahead of time. It’s gonna be an interesting lineup. Tune in."
Hopefully Porcello plays first and bats cleanup
Back home, fun time at SunTrust park. It's a nice enough park.
52 games over .500!
Lol @ MFY squanderage. Maybe next time don't bat Gary ".181" Sanchez 6th?
I was already going to predict a crazy Sunday lineup. makes all the sense in the world.
Red Sox vs. NL this season: 13-3
Red Sox vs. Braves this series: 13-3
Red Sox vs. NL (21st century World Series edition): 12-2
@rajendra82 make the 9/5 thread already so I can predict the lineup.
How does it make sense? They have an off day Thursday, a chance at a sweep, and nothing has been clinched yet. The faster they clinch, the more they can rest everyone.
-noon is a very early getaway start time
-bullpen game already with Velazquez starting
-already won the series, sweep isn't that important
-99% chance at the division already
-end of road trip
-Cora huge believer in two days in a row off
Have at it.
I still fuckin hate Luke Voit.
Most abominable man.
Conceding games is stupid. Just opens the door for NY to cut it to 7.5 going into a tough Houston series.
The chicken little act is growing tiresome.
Absolutely agree. Don’t take your foot of the gas.
In that case we better keep winning.
I dunno. I'm inclined to cut Cora slack on pretty much everything given the win total. If he's brought anything "DIFFERENT/GENIUS" to the team this year, it's pretty much his "fuck the hot hand, you're sitting because it will help us win games later" approach. I'm not saying that's why they've played so well this year. But it's different than usual. That and the utter babying the starters have sometimes received at the expense of the bullpen (both goals seem aligned to unleash the hounds in October, an approach he's been able to stick to without much pressure, given the big lead). His lineups and in-game bullpen management seem pretty standard to me. I'm a bit worried how the pen will do the rest of the season, but his getaway lineups are just part of the ongoing strategy that seems to be at least not really hurting the team and maybe helping it considerably.
Red Sox celebrating their win.
I am not going to question Cora's lineup today. He could have Sandy hitting cleanup and I wouldn't be mad.
Questioning his sanity? Probably a bit.
I'm fine with Cora giving pretty much all the regulars the day off, this is house money.
Injecting the players with botulism is also stupid. But Cora's not doing that, either.
That sounds a little like, "Drive faster, so we'll get there before we run out of gas."
In mostly teeny tiny sample sizes Foltynewicz has owned a lot of our regulars, while a few of our backups have owned him.
I like it, the judges also would have accepted Throgs Neck or Tappan Zee as well.
I think Cora is in part trying to send messages with some of these lineup choices and with strict adherence to off days. I think he may deliberately be trying to keep the team from getting tight about the standings or the Yankees by sending the message that he has confidence in the lead.
He also is probably viewing the Astros series as very important for a lot of different reasons. I think he wants to win it.
In 2005 the Red Sox and MFY tied after 162. Because the MFY won the season series and both teams made the playoffs, they were awarded the division.
Now that there is a WC game, there are many less tiebreakers
Deadlysplitter beat me to it. First off, no team stays home due to a tie breaker in MLB. And second, since there is a WC game now, teams play a one game play in game to determine divsion winner.
Oh and couldn't get the link last night
Day off for Mookie, JDM and X and getting Phillips in.
Edit: I was surprised no one had posted the lineup yet, then I saw this was yesterday's thread.
Sometimes you wish you had a different moniker? Sorry, couldn’t resist.
