In fairness, they had a trip to Wisconsin scheduled to open the year that Wiscy backed out of because they didn't want to break in a new coach against VT.
But yeah, it's bad. Northeastern, Cincy, Southern Miss, and Kent. Ugh.

But keep it like it should have been (Wiscy in place of Northeastern) and it's not too bad compared to:
FSU (Troy St, Rice, Western Mich, UF)
Miami (FL A&M, Louisville, Houston, FL Int)
BC (Ohio, Maine, BYU, Buffalo)

Yeah BC had a tough time finding anyone willing to take a one year contract. They put Army and ND back on the schedule in 2007, not that Army is great but they aren't Buffalo.

But BYU was a bowl team this year and probably will be again next year. It isn't a great matchup, but it is a solid second or 3rd best nonconference game. Unfortunately next year it is the best nonconference game

Looks like a good year to plan a few road trips for BC fans. Definitely would like to get to the FLA St. game.

Let's go Canes - hopefully Kyle Wright will develop a little more next season and Ty Moss will come back with a vengeance. It's a shame Pat Devlin decided to go to Penn State because I was looking forward to seeing him at The U (apparently he had a relationship with Kehoe and when all the firings happened he got confused and the savvy vet Joe Pa was there to clean up the situation)...

I'm glad to see there are a couple of respectable teams on Miami's out of conference schedule in Louisville and Houston, but overall that looks to be a really bad area for the ACC powers this year. Never too early to talk football is right.

How tough of a ticket is the ND-Ga. Tech opener going to be over Labor Day weekend?

Not as tough a ticket as the ND/Penn State game is going to be.

It's so hard to think of anything that would match what I do: Fly to the moon? Jump out of planes? Bungee-jump off cliffs? None of that s--- matters to me. Most of the recruiting services suggest that the aCC is not really doing that well this year. only FSU is consistently in the top 20 in classes this year, but no one has then in the top 10. Miami is in a couple top-20 lists, but not all and defections are going to hurt them.

For posterity sake, the Big East is not doing any better. Pitt is consistently in the top-10 classes (what???), but no one else except an occasional listing of WVU.

Basically the SEC, Big ten, Texas, OU, USC and ND are dominating recruiting this year, at least according the numerous pundits.

First home game of the year in South Bend. I expect that game to be impossible for most alumni to get through the lottery with the USC game in LA.

I'm psyched big time for '06 ACC. Never too early to talk about football.

It sucks for BC that they are gonna get VTech and FSU back to back. I really can't see them getting past those two teams in consecutive weeks, although they do get a bye week before VTech. They still need that defining win in a big game that has eluded them for a while.

It will be interesting to see how Miami progresses or regresses after the firing of basically their entire coaching staff, save for Shannon and Coker. Also, after the massacre that was the Peach Bowl, I'm interested to see how Kyle Wright will bounce back. They will be missing their two biggest playmakers in Devin Hester(who Coker waited until the Peach Bowl to unleash), and Sinorice Moss. Can Miami ever dominate college football in the ACC the way they did in the Big East? I don't think so, but it will be interesting to see. This is a make or break year for Miami, and more specifically Larry Coker.

If FSU can get past Miami in the opening week, their schedule is favorable, the toughest road game they have the rest of the year will be NC State.

Preseason, I'd rank the teams something like this....

1. FSU
2. BC
3. NC State
4. Clemson
5. Maryland
6. Wake Forest

1. Miami(it all depends if Miami loses some random ACC game again this year, because I believe they will beat VTech. They also have a very favorable ACC Schedule.)
2. VTech
3. UNC
4. GTech
5. UVA
6. Duke

While it will be VT and FSU back to back, they'll get an extra 2 days to prepare given that VT is a Thursday night game.

For BC the season hinges on Clemson, NC ST and Wake Forest. Assume losses to the Big 3. Every year under Tom O'Brien they've pissed away a win against a team they should have beaten. (Actually to be fair I don't think theres ever been a BC team that won everything they should have - under Coughlin they threw away a game a year too). A win against Clemson and @NC ST, (and BC should be a favorite in the game as Clemson will be losing their QB, so they'll be playing a kid in his first road appearance and first real game), and BC is 5-0 going into that two game stretch. VT will likely be 5-0 as well meaning thats a hell of an atmosphere for a nationally televised game come October 12.

Virginia Coach Al Groh dismissed linebacker Ahmad Brooks, defensive end Vince Redd and cornerback Tony Franklin from the team on Tuesday.

"It's best for us and the players to move on from these circumstances," Groh said at a news conference in Charlottesville, one day before the Cavaliers begin spring practice.

All three players were potential starters on defense, but Groh said the losses will not affect Virginia's outlook this season.

......

Brooks, a senior, led Virginia in tackles as a freshman and sophomore but played in only six games during an injury-riddled 2005. As a sophomore, Brooks was All-ACC and a Butkus Award finalist. But he ballooned to 270 pounds as he struggled to recover from knee and ankle injuries last year.

In January, Brooks announced he would not enter the NFL draft. Now, transfering to a lower-division school or entering the NFL's supplemental draft are options. Brooks, once viewed as a first-round prospect, chose to return in large part, however, because his stock had slipped.

"It is a privelege and not a right to wear a Cavaliers jersey and to represent our university and community," Groh said. "There are certain things that are vital and those things come into sharper focus and are multiplied when you're rebuilding, as we are. That's focus, commitment and dependability."

The Ahmad Brooks news is very disappointing for us UVa alums. This guy was a stud when he came to Virginia and, coupled with Kai Parham, was billed as one of the best linebacker combos in the country.

With the loss of Brooks, Parham, Hagans, Lundy, Hughes, and Ferguson (and offense and defense coordinators), it will be a rough year for the 'Hoos. Better enjoy our killer lacrosse team now while I can.

Bengals took Ahmad Brooks in the 3rd round today. I am sure there will be a few gang rapes and shootings in his future with fellow good-guys Frostee Rucker, A.J. Nicholson and Chris Henry.
