What the hell?

QUOTE
Paul Pierce and DeShawn Stevenson have each been fined $25,000 by the league for "making menacing gestures" during games last weekend.

Nothing more should come of this, and we can only hope that it discourages Stevenson from petting his face ever again.

Are they talking about what Pierce did after Horford was taunting him? Really?

Religion has actually convinced people that there is an invisible man living in the sky who watches everything you do, every minute of every day. The invisible man has a special list of ten things he does not want you to do. And if you do any of these ten things, he has a special place, full of fire and smoke and burning and torture and anguish, where he will send you to live and suffer and burn and choke and scream and cry forever and ever til the end of time!
But he loves you

I cant believe that gesture warranted a $25K fine. Were the refs also fined for all the game this series as they are just barely keeping the games under control?

On a related note, I have a bad feeling that if this game or the next turns into a blowout we might see a fight or some even harder intentional fouls.

Does this Celtics team have a "Jungle Jim Loscutoff"? That guy was a piece of work, shoulders about 4 feet wide, and if anyone threatened Russell or Cousy, you'd find him in intensive care that night.

Hawks fans are claiming Pierce made the "b" sign that stands for the Bloods gang. Apparently the NBA agrees.

Or that handsign could mean "asshole" - three fingers and a um, hole.

I don't buy this at all.

The Hawks don't have fans.

There's been a lot of speculation about this on the part of idiotic hawks fans, but celts fans as well.

To set it straight (don't go around blabbing this to hick Atlantans please):

Paul was simply throwin his "3's up" - i.e. reppin Boston. Not reppin the bloods, not Ingelwood, not calling Horford names. I know most of us are "from Boston", but nobody living in the 'burbs will be familiar with the practice. The whole "3's up" thing is used by kids from the hood to rep Boston - simple as that.

Interesting. I wonder if yelling area codes such as "617" will also become a fineable offense.

Between pointless fines like that, overreactive flagrant-2 calls, and the refs constantly getting jobbed everytime a guys flails, it's pretty clear the NBA is becoming a high-end sissy Euro league. My 13-year-old cousin gets away with more at her rec league games.

I don't know. If I worked at the NBA, and saw an LA guy like Pierce throw up the "b", I would certainly think he was making the Bloods sign. And that would be something, given all the NBA's struggles with image, that I would want to crack down on. I think the Bloods' hand sign is a lot more well-known than this Boston thing is.

Yeah, and putting your "3's up" is how kids in every other hood in the country rep the bloods. 25 g's is a lot for a hand gesture, I wish there was some way to fine Horford for being a little punk bitch way too excited about his team winning one playoff game and mouthing off to veteran players, but that's not the way the world works.

You might be right about Paul's gesture, but if Suge Knight pays the fine then we'll know otherwise.

This is highly scientific, I know, but here's a supposed chart on L.A. gang signs:

I guess Paul Pierce was doing the b.k gang sign, unless it's different in Atlanta? I have no idea. Either way, I think it's pretty ridiculous to fine someone for that. There's no way to know exactly what Pierce was doing and there seems to be room for debate.

It's the NBA, why does Horford need a fine when the Celtics have a chance to send him home for the summer? This should be settled on the court. (edit: got carried away with the editorializing)

On CSN they said it was something about blood, sweat and tears and Pierce has done it for years.

Aside: I always used to see these graffiti signs in Maine that people told me were some Boston gang graffiti. Looked like a TLF kind of drawn into together.
