Was Manny the only no-show?

I count 37 guys in that team photo (omitting Cheney and Bush, of course), which includes players, coaches, Henry, Werner & Lucchino. I assume Theo skipped the event.

By my count there are 31 players from last year's team still in the system. That includes guys like Bailey, Hansack, Corey and Moss, but I didn't notice any of those 4 on the platform. If all players were there except Manny, that would leave 7 slots for Tito, the Trio, and the 6 coaches. I spotted them all except Luis Alicea.

So I'm guessing that at least a couple of the four players I noted didn't make the trip for whatever reason.

Anyone notice he fucked up by saying that Ortiz, Schilling, Varitek, etc provided the "nuculus" for the 2007 club?

Apparently, one of the folks over in the sandbox is a doctor at Walter Reed and posted a short description of his experience today when the Sox visited...I'm not sure what the protocol is in quoting stuff from the sandbox over here, so here's a link to the page (look for post #15):

Lucchino talking with Sen. Kennedy:

Great shots...you must've gotten there even earlier than I did. I was originally in one of the middle rows but, realizing everyone would have to sit down, moved to the back so I could stay standing to photograph while the ceremony was going on.

I think the White House did a great job of making the ceremony feel private and intimate despite the huge crowds and fanfare. I was also surprised how quickly the security line moved once they opened it up. On the other hand, it was kind of annoying being surrounded by some Bush appointees who talked about how they were Orioles fans but just wanted the afternoon off.

I wasn't among those with passes to the south lawn, so I waited out front. Got lucky with these:

Team buses at the front door of the White House:

Jed Hoyer and Papi talking to the police escort. The cop begins removing the cover on the sidecar, and those of us who are watching start saying "no way they're gonna let him in!" We assume Hoyer's just gonna grab a photo:

Papi gets in the sidecar -- awesome. laugh.gif Lucchino and Henry appear to be giving this the okay:

Dude.

He seemed to be loving it:

I call this one "...and a side of Papi".

Enjoy!

The White House website has a transcript that includes pictures, video, and audio as well.

--------------------
"Why did I sign with the Nationals? When you go to a club at 4 in the morning, and you're just waiting, waiting, a 600-pounder looks like J. Lo. And to me this is Jennifer Lopez right here. It's 4 in the morning. Too much to drink. So, Nationals: Jennifer Lopez to me."

Many thanks to everyone that posted pictures.

It's 5:30 in the morning here, and I'm choking on my coffee with laughter over those pictures of Papi in the sidecar. He may be a big guy, but he looks like a little kid having a blast. I bet he made the cop turn the siren on too.
