Dan Duquette, by all accounts, is not the friendliest, most likeable man ever to come along. However, until his decision not to sign Roger Clemens became his legacy he was regarded as a shrewd judge of talent. Nonetheless, it has been virtually impossible to read anything about Duquette since the Clemens decision was made without the words "twilight" and "career" being prominently mentioned.

It is now apparent to anyone that, absent cheating, Dan Duquette was absolutely correct in his assessment of Clemens. If Roger hadn't relied upon illegal drugs to rebuild a body that was clearly breaking down during the end of his tenure with the Red Sox there is no way he does what he did over that stretch of time. I don't care about the Hall of Fame, the Cy Young's or the records broken over the last number of years - the greatest tragedy of the Clemens story is that a drug-riddled arrogant son of a bitch stole an honest man's reputation.
