Shohei Ohtani’s attorneys accuse interpreter of ‘massive theft’ tied to alleged gambling

In fact, that may be the only one they did not have access to. And since that was his MLB salary account, it may have been his smallest one, given that he earned so much more in endorsements. (Of course, I have no idea, and am just speculating here like everyone else.)

Shohei Ohtani’s attorneys accuse interpreter of ‘massive theft’ tied to alleged gambling

Yeah, I was kind of thinking the same thing. But given the increasing number of Japanese, and other Asian players, coming to MLB, it's probably something they should be prepared for.

Shohei Ohtani’s attorneys accuse interpreter of ‘massive theft’ tied to alleged gambling

I wouldn't be surprised if every agent/agency with non-English speaking clients is currently reviewing their policies. I get that there are some delicate client relations issues involved. But there's got to be a way an agency can use their own bilingual person, without it seeming like " we don't...

Shohei Ohtani’s attorneys accuse interpreter of ‘massive theft’ tied to alleged gambling

Maybe I'm misunderstanding your post, but why would the Japanese speaker need to be an agent? Why couldn't the current agents simply hire their own interpreter to sit in on meetings etc. Then if any red flags or concerns arise, they could go back to Ohtani with their own interpreter and say...

Shohei Ohtani’s attorneys accuse interpreter of ‘massive theft’ tied to alleged gambling

Or the interpreter was the financial advisor...stranger things have happened. Edit: one would hope his agent would advise against such an arrangement, but if they truly were besties and the interpreter was as involved in Ohtani's life as reported, I could see it as possible.

Do You Want John Henry To Sell The Red Sox?

@themactavish beat me to it. If some billionaire with New England ties, who loves baseball, cares about the fate of the Red Sox, and has the knowledge and/or ability to assemble competent baseball ops leadership, is in line to buy the team, I'm intrigued. Otherwise, I'll take the devil I...

    Offseason rumors

Or the Oakland A's. I get the frustrations with FSG as things stand. But whenever I hear calls for Henry et al to sell the team, all I can think is "be careful what you wish for".

    Let's Lay Off That Throttle

Ah, thanks, my bad; I misunderstood that. I stopped paying careful attention once he chose the Dodgers. I completely agree with the rest of your sentence.

    Let's Lay Off That Throttle

The Dodgers are already paying YY $375M ($325M over 12 years plus $50M signing bonus). So the Red Sox would have had to beat that. The question is by how much. We've had pages and pages of discussion here about why Boston is currently a less desirable location for free agents, especially one...

    Offseason rumors

There really are solid arguments being made for either signing or not signing Snell or Montgomery, and whether it makes sense this year. (I'm not completely sure what I prefer, but I'm not the one making the decision, and I can change my mind tomorrow.) I don't think we know where Breslow...

    Offseason rumors

That's certainly a valid argument, as is the opposite position. And they've both been discussed in depth on this thread and others. I don't feel super strongly one way or the other myself, but I am confident it is something the Red Sox are thinking about.

    Offseason rumors

But isn't Snell's biggest wart his age coupled with the length of contract he's seeking? So the Sox have to consider not only what difference he would make now, but also what difference--good or bad--he might make 6 or however many years from now. If he would accept a 2 or 3 year deal, that...

Lucas Giolito signs 2 year, 38.5M contract with Red Sox (opt-out after 1 year, potential 3rd year option)

This Athletic article says much the same thing as the quotes @Big Papi's Mango Salsa provided above, but here are a couple additional quotes (sorry, have not read the masslive link; these may have been said there, too)...

Player Development: How are the Sox vs. Other Teams?

Agreed, @burstnbloom, this was a very interesting and informative post. I am not nearly as knowledgeable as many others here. The intensity of my fandom waxes and wanes with the excitement level of the team and the demands of my life outside baseball, and the last few years there's been too...

Not our Star Blazer: Yamamoto signs with the Dodgers for $325 million, 12 years

Okay, I had to google that: "Theo has a list??" LOL, oops...that Epstein.

Not our Star Blazer: Yamamoto signs with the Dodgers for $325 million, 12 years

After the Sox, this was my choice, however unlikely, because I'm in the Bay Area and the buzz when the Dodgers and Ohtani came to town would be really fun. But yeah, anywhere but the Yankees...

Not our Star Blazer: Yamamoto signs with the Dodgers for $325 million, 12 years

This is the main reason I've become pessimistic about the Red Sox' chances. If the rumors are true that he wants the largest market and the biggest stage, then NY or LA are the logical choices. He's already been successful on the biggest stages he's faced - NPB, Olympics, WBC - what else is...

Not our Star Blazer: Yamamoto signs with the Dodgers for $325 million, 12 years

I'm feeling pretty pessimistic myself lately, but to play devil's advocate, even if we accept the truth of the report that he didn't visit Boston on his east coast trip, 1) do we know if he's no longer on the east coast? 2) do we know that he has no future plans to visit Boston?

Not our Star Blazer: Yamamoto signs with the Dodgers for $325 million, 12 years

Ha ha! I guess I was thinking more about the fans like the guys in the gif when I rattled off my impulsive post yesterday. (Honestly, I really don't know who's a Yankee fan here or not, and didn't intend to tar all with the same brush.) Anyway, aside from not wanting the MFY to get better, I...

New Sox director of pitching Justin Willard

Yes, I think you are right. I was a little hesitant to say "opposite"; I just remember Breslow saying something like command was harder to teach than some other things. I'm nowhere near as analytics-savvy as many on this board--I have to Google half the alphabet soup of acronyms that get thrown...
