    Hanley DFA'd (5/25 Update)

dump me for calling a player lazy, and pointing out that he was a disastrous signing? ok. maybe you should dump the front office that just DFA'd him too, those big meanies.

    Hanley DFA'd (5/25 Update)

this is a man with the skills to play SS most of his career.....yet couldn't figure out how to be even playable at the easiest positions because he couldn't put the work in to learn decent routes in the OF or how to position himself to receive throws at 1B.

    you've watched him play, no?

    Hanley DFA'd (5/25 Update)

red Sox have plenty of hardworking black players. Hanley is not one of them.

    Hanley DFA'd (5/25 Update)

really? I think the fondness for him and surprise on this thread is much weirder. the guy has been an absolute bum in 3 of his 4 seasons here....and not an especially diligent or hardworking bum. He has been a disastrous signing.

    Wherefore art thou, Blake?

    Career Hitting Vazquez: 850pa, .300babip, 68wrc+ (MILB: 2193pa, .312babip, 107wrc+) Swihart: 422pa, .344babip, 87wrc+ (MILB: 1716pa, .316babip, 102wrc+)

    Wherefore art thou, Blake?

my point is that we've kept reading all these narratives into his performance to tell ourselves his hot streaks are real and his bad streaks aren't......but when we take a step back and look at the big picture for this 26yr old player, without trying to read any narratives into it.....the big...

    Wherefore art thou, Blake?

    Wherefore art thou, Blake?

according to fangraphs 3B is tied with 1B as the best hitting position in baseball, at 111wrc+ total for all players when they've been playing 3B. but my point was more about Devers' development, and not his actual impact on the roster right now. Devers is really, really young - very young...

    Wherefore art thou, Blake?

imo the idea of sending Devers down isn't ludicrous. He's 21 - he'd be age appropriate even for A+ at the moment. and also at the moment, he's a bit of a weak spot both offensively and defensively....while at the same time the last thing we'd want for him is to spend much time riding pine in...

    Catching Hell

heh. this one made me think....and think...and then give up.

    Wherefore art thou, Blake?

but an average minor league hitter who can't catch isn't.

    Wherefore art thou, Blake?

I get that as fans we love to dream on the hot streaks and make excuses for the cold streaks....but the guy is 26 already with thousands of pro plate appearances - imo it's long past time to accept what the big picture says here.

    Wherefore art thou, Blake?

    UT B.Swihart (26) MLB: 422pa, 8.1bb%, 24.6k%, .344babip, .260avg, .107iso, 87wrc+ MiLB: 1716pa, 8.3bb%, 17.9k%, .316babip, .269avg, .130iso, 102wrc+ Average minor league hitter turned below average major league hitter. not sure it's any more complicated than that.

    Catching Hell

ah didn't realize there were such serious penalties above and beyond the main luxury tax level. maybe we offer them a real prospect for Martin if they eat most of his salary? I think they've leveraged their payroll to add prospects a couple times recently?

    Catching Hell

not sure if they are - or if that would stop their FO from selling anyways. He does have an 83wRC+ but that's with a .180babip over only about 100pa. Previous 2yrs he was dead on 100wrc+. his last 50pa he's at 112. and the contract means he won't cost us anything big in assets. (we're over the...

    Catching Hell

we should use our wallets and trade for Russ Martin's remaining contract. great gamecaller with probably still a league average bat. his contract should keep the player cost down, and only signed for one more year.

    BOS bullpen 2018

tbh I find criticism of the bullpen a little weird. It seems pretty great to me, aside from this need to force Johnson in there when he clearly shouldn't be.
