Who is the first Red Sox First Baseman you can remember?

Yaz for me but my first to watch in person was Mo Vaughn on my initial visit to Fenway in 1997. The Sox played Seattle. My buddy from Topsfield got us great seats on the first base line. Wakefield threw a complete game shutout. Vaughn hit a homerun and to complete my first memory of Fenway...

WTF Ever Happened to Rich Gedman (and the 1987 Boston Red Sox)

I met Gedman at fantasy camp a few years back. My locker was a few down from his for the week. He was a really nice guy, down to earth, proud father. I recall his daughter was quite a hockey player by all accounts. He had a really quiet humor (though not always subtle just not announced to...

    Benintendi back on the roster

Minor miracle augmented by relative youth and low mileage even compared to other players in MLB

    TRADE DEADLINE GAME THREAD

Benintendi is a "very good" fielder. I watched him a lot in college live. He's got a good first step, good speed, route running isn't always the most efficient but he's very athletic and overcomes that. Has always been in center field. Above average arm but not a cannon. He has high baseball...

    Boston and Bust!

I think for some "perception has become reality" and Boston's fans and media, to them, are perceived as hypercritical. I also think there are some players who just cannot perform under a microscope. ??Melancon perhaps. It seems like the MFYs made that statement about him (it may have been...

The new net behind the plate

I've looked for a little more context on those numbers and in fact they are "ALL INJURIES REPORTED TO THE FIRST AID STATION" related to foul balls. On Foulballz.com there actually is another discussion of the same and to use their language it is like this: "This means if I get in a scrum and...

The new net behind the plate

The last one I recall was at an Arkansas Traveler's game. My son (9 at the time) was standing on the first base fence because they were going to allow the kids to run the bases between innings. The coach had turned his back to walk farther back in the coaching box and was caught by a liner...

Start, Sit, Trade: Play Along with Dave

I'd be interested in hearing thoughts about a pursuit of Shelby Miller. Potential price tag etc. Some of what I have read says they'd need a major league ready arm and a bat (though the most recent thing I read didn't say MLB ready bat). Looking at their depth chart needs and prospects...

Red Sox announce Dave Dombrowski is their new president of baseball operations.

I personally liked Cherington's approach to placing value on the draft, farm system and (because I find myself being a fan of a player rather than their numbers quite often) I find myself approaching the Dombrowski era with some trepidation. Having read through a lot of SOSH and the press at...

Don't Look Now But The Red Sox Offense Has Woken Up

True, we received cash and gave up 23yr old AA pitcher Joe Gunkel, but however he arrived, he's at least been a "league average" outfielder for the team, small sample size not withstanding. To date, 19 games, 62 plate appearances, 17 hits (9xbh), 8 runs, 11 rbi, batting 0.288 OPS 0.899 4.08...

2015 1st Round Pick, Andrew Benintendi, CF, Arkansas

SEC player of the year Baseball America national player of the year Collegiate Baseball national player of the year Dick Howser Trophy Golden Spides Award   Having seen Benintendi in person (5' 10" 170#), he's not been measured with the same tape that puts Pedroia at 5' 9" and remember  Yaz was...

    2015 MLB Draft Day thread.

Saw both Matheny and Benintendi play this weekend at Baum Stadium (Arkansas Alum) he seemed to move well in the outfield.  Took good routes in those games and covered more ground than perhaps his true speed as written about would indicate.    Edit-(Matheny)  Obviously BennyBaseball is very fast.
