Michigan Basketball 2014-2015: Caris Us To The Promised Land

We're sitting on a four-game losing streak now, three at home. The Beilein model depends on good shooting, and no one seems to be shooting well. LeVert isn't athletic enough to score big when teams focus on him. He's best as a second option on a team that can create a lot of scoring...

That's my way of saying it's a done deal.

2014 Michigan Football: Dammit Jim, we need a Harbaugh. And a miracle worker.

So... an offer is out there and we're waiting for Harbaugh. Part of me says he's going to take the job, everyone who matters already knows this, and we'll get the announcement a week from Monday when the 49ers are officially done. And part of me says someone at Michigan really pissed him off and...

2022 World Cup In Qatar: 1,000 Workers Already Dead

Won't they black out anything controversial? And the announcement comes with a declaration that the 2018 and 2022 Cups won't be moved under any circumstances.

He won't last until the third unless there's a personal incident. I'd still say 50/50 for the second half of the first round if he has a good combine. He's a rare combination of size and athleticism.

2014 Michigan Football: Dammit Jim, we need a Harbaugh. And a miracle worker.

Funchess makes it official... he won't be on the welcoming committee for the new coach. He'll have an interesting time answering difficult questions at the combine about all those drops once the season started going south. But he's still at least a second-rounder. Miles is denying being...

The Game Ball Thread: Week 14 at the Chargers

I'm having some fun with the new playoff chances app. Running 32,000 simulations with expected point spreads. NE gets the first seed 75.0%, second seed 18.6%, third seed 4.8%, fourth seed 0.6%, fifth seed 0.3%, and sixth seed 0.5%. Out of the playoffs only 0.4% (122 times in 32,000 simulations)...

2014 Michigan Football: Dammit Jim, we need a Harbaugh. And a miracle worker.

Today's loss to Oakland can't have helped Harbaugh's outlook on San Francisco, but these stories are coming from veteran reporters. At any rate, San Francisco's playoff chances are down to 6%. Eliminated with one more loss. Next week's game at Seattle is their biggest - a win would increase...

Week 14 College Football Game Thread

It's more the math of not having a clear winner. All four conference championships were won by the team that had the resume. The Big Twelve never had a true champion, ironically enough. Having 5 and 6 means your conference did very well, but the other conferences had clearer "way-out-in-front"...

    Who's your top ten?

That's true. It's hard to remind people that OSU dropped because it is a human ranking and they were trying to prepare us for OSU being left out if they looked bad in a close win over Wisconsin while TCU and/or Baylor racked up a rout. There's no good way to do this. Four is just...

Looks like Harbaughs aren't the answer: http://www.mlive.com/wolverines/index.ssf/2014/12/cbs_writer_jim_harbaugh_not_in.html And we heard that Les Miles wasn't interested, either. I hope we're not headed for another desperation hire.

    Who's your top ten?

Quoting my own post because I'll go with the same ranking for this week. Auburn, Georgia, Georgia Tech and LSU are a very close 10-13.

I'd watch every minute of this. This is a quick-and-dirty estimate of the teams involved. Baylor over TCU because the Big 12 should use head-to-head to determine its champion, even though TCU should be the higher-rated team. And one spot should be reserved for a mid-major that reaches the top 20.

That doesn't seem to sway the other college football divisions, so no. Why pretend football players do anything but play football during the fall semester? It's not like they can catch up in December. Give them a week off and start the tournament.

I think they go after the state itself. Every state has a high school athletic association. Otherwise, you won't get enough for class action. The state athletic associations often provide injury insurance of some sort, as well as structure for the sports. While they are typically non-profits...

Week 14 College Football Game Thread

The argument is that Baylor had home turf for its toughest games and played a non-existent non-conference schedule. TCU and OSU had mediocre schedule strength, but Baylor's was near the bottom of the power conferences. When you have 128 teams playing widely variant schedules, it's very...

There are 1.1 million high school football players. Some of the more enterprising John Edwards wannabes are already mining that rich lode for class action possibilities. By the time they're finished furnishing their second mansions on Long Island, high school football will be a shell of what it was.
