    3/25 - Celtics @ Hawks

Turns out when the Hornets were eliminated from postseason contention the Celtics clinched the 1 seed. So nothing on the line today. Win anyway!

    Caesar's Sportsbook: 2020 Pats Over/Under 8.5 Wins

Vegas isn't trying to "guess" the win total and be right. They're trying to make money. They want to get action on both sides. If they had set the win total at 13.5 every year of the dynasty, no one would ever take the over and then if the Pats win 12 or 13 they lose a ton of money. Now if...

2019 Ravens: College Offense Run Amok

3.27 pts per drive. They have 17 Pts on RGIII's 9 drives this season. I think the 2007 Patriots had 14 Pts on 8 drives with backup QBs in the game, so Pats probably still above Ravens in that regard but I haven't done the full math.

2019 Ravens: College Offense Run Amok

The Ravens have 111 offensive drives and have scored 351 Pts on those drives (351/111=3.16). They have 386 total pts this season, 35 of which have come from defensive scores (2 Int ret, 3 fum ret, plus the 5 PAT on those plays). Reference must be counting the fumble ret TD PAT as part of...

    2019 Belichick Breakdowns

NFL Next Gen has a max speed of 16.14 MPH from Chase on the 4th and 16 sack, 2nd-fastest max speed for a Pats player on a sack this season (Van Noy 1st qtr vs Daniel Jones, 18.78 MPH!!!). Mayfield only reached a max of 13.6 MPH trying to escape from Chase so it wasn't a tough run down. Mayfield...

2019 Pats Defense: What Are We Witnessing?

Speaking of Pats man-zero...The Patriots have run man-zero coverage 9% of the time this season, second-most of any team (only behind the Ravens at 10%), according to ESPN pass coverage metrics powered by NFL Next Gen Stats. Opponents have averaged -1.19 expected points added and 1 yard per...

2019 Pats Defense: What Are We Witnessing?

Patriots defensive FPI is 8.2, the best through Week 7 in the last 5 seasons. The gap between NE and the 3rd-best defense (Chicago) is 4.9 points above average. That’s larger than the gap between CHI (3.3) and 23rd ranked PHI (-1.0). In other words, the 3rd-best defense in the NFL by FPI has...

    2018-2019 NC Hoops

K discussed the Baker situation: https://www.newsobserver.com/sports/article226732729.html I have no issues if K decided Baker can help this team this year because they sorely lack shooting and he's a good shooter. My issue with K is that if he thought Baker could help, why wasn't this...

    2018-2019 NC Hoops

Saw this note yesterday: Danny Manning's 0-30 against UNC, Duke, Virginia, Notre Dame and Clemson. He has yet to win 20 games in a season at Wake (won't this year), and this will be his 4th time finishing below .500 overall in 5 seasons. OUCH. ACC needs a young coach to break through soon. K...

    SB53: We Need Links Thread!

Sorry if this was posted elsewhere but Brian Baldinger's "Baldy Breakdowns" on his twitter feed from the last few days are great. Breaking down 1 play at a time for 1-2 min, incredible detail that he's picked out. Worth some time to scroll through his TL. https://twitter.com/BaldyNFL

    2018 Belichick Breakdowns

Every week Belichick calls out the special teams for their play. This is a great example (non-Patriots film) of why he places so much emphasis on it. All 11 guys on any given ST unit need to put in their best effort every play or you're giving your opponent a big advantage. I used to work for...

Finn: Red Sox Potentially Changing Radio Broadcast Approach

I was not aware but that's great! Difference is, MLB.TV is taking local broadcasts, they're not paying any announcers directly. ESPN, MLB Network, Fox, TBS, etc are all paying their own crews to do the games so they're not going to make that available any time soon I'd wager.

Finn: Red Sox Potentially Changing Radio Broadcast Approach

Late last summer, my wife and I put in a patio behind our house with a fire pit dining table. I found it soooo nice to have dinner, then grab a beer and turn the Sox game on the radio while we sat by the fire. As has been said by others, the "nat sound" of the game is a must for baseball on...

That was then: Celebrating what was

Since 2011, teams to beat the Patriots at home are 5-13 overall and 5-13 against the spread in their next game that season. Basically, if a team beats the Patriots at home, you can make good money betting on them to lose their next game. Steelers did cover yesterday (+6.5) but pattern is clear.

2018 Tom M-F&^%$ing Brady: Still Proving It

Brady is also 6th in ESPN's Total QBR. I should have been clear, wasn't suggesting Brady's issue with off-target throws shows a decline necessarily. More that it's an area where missing throws has cost the team this season. Go back the the Miami game, right before the awful 3rd down sack...

2018 Tom M-F&^%$ing Brady: Still Proving It

Those are trickier. If its a catchable ball, it's not off target. If he bounces it, a little tougher to judge Brady's intent so probably charted as off target.
