The Frailty of the Modern Pitcher

Pedro may have enjoyed some elbow protection in throwing the changeup via his long fingers. Of course, he ended up with shoulder issues rather than elbow ones.

    Let's Lay Off That Throttle

That BA article puts Duran in RF for the Sox, which is very odd.

    Patriots' 2024 Free Agency Thread

Breer says $23m/year for Ridley is an incredibly strong deal, so in his eyes what does that make the Pats offer at $22m/year he mentioned?

A Reunion: Brissett back in New England. 1 year, $8 million

Yes, I expect them to draft a QB this year, but I was just doubting all the talk that signing Brissett must mean selecting a QB at #3.

A Reunion: Brissett back in New England. 1 year, $8 million

Given BB's love of virtually free players and coaches discharged elsewhere, he likely would have been all over getting Russell Wilson to come to Foxborough. I am not convinced bringing in Brissett locks the Pats into selecting a QB at #3.

The Frailty of the Modern Pitcher

I wouldn't want to see it, but pitcher attrition will be used by the advocates for moving to 7-inning games.

Revised contract predictions for Snell and Montgomery

If that's accurate, then there's no room to stay under and add Montgomery now. Maybe we're back to Jansen has to get moved for there to be any chance?

    Offseason rumors

Beat me to it! I think his aim with this info was to goad a larger-market team into a sweeter offer to overcome the player's preference for a smaller market.

Brayan Bello signed to a 6 year, $55 million extension

I went to look up Longoria's deal signed with the Rays in 2012. Don't let John Henry see this, but from the AP story

Lock the thread. That's going to be hard to top here.

Lucas Giolito has an elbow issue.

He had an All-Star first half, but he had a rough month of July [ERA over 8, WHIP over 1.6, OPS over .900] before getting hit in the head.

Lucas Giolito has an elbow issue.

We certainly don't have anything close to enough info to know about this, but the experience with Carl Crawford and others indicates players who are headed into FA at season's end will try to keep things quiet and play through issues that they might otherwise go on the IL for.

Presumably Sox will make a QO in that scenario if that's not blocked somehow.

Revised contract predictions for Snell and Montgomery

The reference was to the penalty for a team signing a FA who had received a QO from his original team. Page 104 of the current CBA indicates the day before the draft as the last day the compensation (and penalty presumably) applies: 2022-2026 Basic Agreement

    Arthur D’Angelo - RIP

Quite a life lived by Arthur! Here's a 2017 piece from Inc. magazine and one by Gordon Edes in 2018 marking Arthur's selection into the Red Sox HoF. Never saw this before, but it looks like '47 has some paid content hosted on the Globe's website.

Bill Walton and Chris Sale would concur. Yes, Solano should wait for someone in a camp to blow out an ACL or whatever.
