    Let's Lay Off That Throttle

What you don't seem to be addressing, ever, is that this issue that has finally come to the point of needing to be acknowledged started a few years ago. They traded away Mookie Betts and have not made efforts to field a serious team since. They are in this spot where they have a thoroughly...

    Let's Lay Off That Throttle

Not for nothing but the QAnon/ "payroll truther" stuff coming at the gaggle of reporters reporting a fairly believable thing was on the shortlist of the dumbest things I've ever read here. The media literacy in this group used to be really strong; that was like taking that strength and oddly...

Yoshinobu Yamamoto signs with Dodgers for 12 years, 325M

I am a rank amateur at this I will admit. Maybe I'll bring 'em this post and they'll throw me a sympathy bobblehead. Oh I've been. Its brutal. Still a great stadium. Tickets will be impossible, but I can scratch out some bleacher seats against the Pirates I bet and they're free on TV, so. I'm...

Yoshinobu Yamamoto signs with Dodgers for 12 years, 325M

Am I a Dodgers fan now? Mookie is my favorite baseball player, I'm obsessed with Ohtani, I was so excited to watch Yamamoto this year and was praying I wouldn't have to watch him do it with NY. I d'know, man. You gotta be impressed, they're not f-cking around. (I live in Los Angeles, fwiw) I'm...

    Betts/Price to LA for Verdugo/Jeter Downs/TBA

Well but what is that but another kind of epic mismanagement? Nine years of Mike Trout and they couldn't field a team around him good enough to make it out of the AL West. But sure, it could end bad. Anything in life could. The clear signs to me are that this is a player you bend over backwards...

    Betts/Price to LA for Verdugo/Jeter Downs/TBA

I'm not trying to convince anyone of anything but this is, to me, a really bad day. I don't want to be a fan who accepts downgrading or voluntarily shedding generational players because of money or some bigger picture view. If you do, that's understandable and perfectly normal, it just seems to...

2019 WS - Nationals vs. Astros - Gamethread

Some day someone will have to explain to me why everyone here hates him. He is one of my all-time favorite baseball weirdos. I love that he has a ring now, it makes his vaguely hilarious career--peaks and valleys--all the better a story. He still (kinda) gets outs at 42! I would have killed to...

    Mookie BBetts - 2019 Campaign

Yes. I've seen them win four times. I'm honestly content if they end up mediocre for a few years if it means I get to watch him play his whole career here. It could happen anyway no matter what path you take--this year is great proof of that. That's where I'm at. Wouldn't say that about...

Where the Red Sox have gone wrong

    Fair enough.

Where the Red Sox have gone wrong

No they didn't "100% take the rest of the season off." You're welcome to provide our discussion with some facts beyond your own gut level hot take. This is the second invitation to give that a shot and all we're getting is bluster and anecdote and evasion. This is embarrassing to read...

Where the Red Sox have gone wrong

I did; every one of them. It seems like a few people have answered your claim with some facts, you're welcome to do the same. You're the one making the claim. What you're saying just isn't accurate. I don't think anyone is claiming they weren't as good as their record. The difference between...

Where the Red Sox have gone wrong

They definitely did not take their foot off the gas whatsoever until after they'd clinched home-field, which was game 158 (I believe). The day after that they started the B lineup against Baltimore and lost, then started the regular lineup in the first two against NYY with early exits for some...

    Game 5 - Bruins v. Leafs

Hey stay strong, @Haunted, sending good thoughts your mom's way. To you too, hope the Bruins step up for both of you tonight.

W.S. Hangover Cures: The Devil is in the Details...

When I said this: It was in response to this: That's the context of my post. The words I chose were a response to these words, not the tangent of nonsense you've jumped in with. I was responding to the sentiments expressed in this post. If you're interested in going to bat for it, go for it...

W.S. Hangover Cures: The Devil is in the Details...

If you'd prefer spend your time with Mookie Betts on your favorite team worrying about the market and how much more money he might make than you think he's worth while also opining that other teams won't value him in a trade scenario that's certainly your right.

W.S. Hangover Cures: The Devil is in the Details...

GMs don't value best-in-the-league defense? Batting average? Holy moly man. Mike Trout is off to the best start of a career of anyone in the history of the sport, what on earth does he have to do with Mookie Betts? As for this year's performance it is April 18th! Imagine not being able to...

Would a lousy 2019 tarnish 2018 at all for you?

Misery is, for many (most?), still an integral part of being a Red Sox fan. Even contemplating this is fucking bizarre. Last year could almost literally not have been more perfect and you're entertaining the idea of a bad season after it tainting that? Seriously, pretend you're a Pirates fan...

Would a lousy 2019 tarnish 2018 at all for you?

No, of course not. 2013 was not a "fluke" either. They had the best record, run differential, and OPS in the AL, as well as the most team WAR. Their ERA+ was 4th in the league. The only MLB team with a better Pythag, the Cardinals, they beat in six games in the WS.
