Celtics vs. Bucks, Round 2 Discussion

I think Al should be getting more love. His playoff performances have been remarkable to me. I certainly didn't expect this level of excellence and extended playing time when the Celtics brought him back.

MassLive had an article about Jake Diekman yesterday. https://www.masslive.com/redsox/2022/04/boston-red-soxs-jake-diekman-who-had-colon-removed-living-medicine-free-and-really-couldnt-care-less-about-closing.html Like Jake, my daughter has had her colon removed. She follows colitis/crohns...

Super Bowl LVI: Bengals vs Rams

Not that I care much, but I decided to root for the Rams since they got Brady to retire.

What Super Bowl matchup do you want & who are you rooting for?

No strong preference, so I'm going with Cincy over SF based on the uniforms I like better. Especially the helmets, those stripes look cool.

    AFC playoff chase 2021

This. My recollection on end of season NFL games is that generally teams playing spoiler have more motivated players than teams playing for seeding. That may or may not overcome the talent difference.

The Game Ball: Wk. 13 at Buffalo

If you're referring to me, my wife is a Pat's fan, but didn't like the run heavy play calling. And luck has nothing to do with it.

The Game Ball: Wk. 13 at Buffalo

My wife agrees. Though I disagree, I get it. As Baseball Jones posted, most of the Pat's drives were not effective. Take away the Harris TD run and the Pat's stats don't look as good. But that long TD run happened and though I wouldn't like a whole season of such games, the occasional smash...

The Game Ball Thread: Wk. 8 at LAC

I'll second all the Gunner mentions for game balls. He's got a great ability to avoid the first potential tackler. But his overall success is very reliant on his teammates effectively blocking while avoiding the all too common penalties during punt returns. Honorable mention to the entire...

    Rico Petrocelli interview

On July 15, 1971 when I was an 11-year old, Rico hit a 3-run homer in the bottom of the 13th for a walk off 3-0 victory. What I also remember from that game was that Luis Tiant started and held the Twins scoreless despite plenty of traffic on the base paths. Reggie Smith took a home run away...

ALCS 2021: Red Sox vs. Astros Discussion Thread

The pitching is lining up so well for the Sox and their hitting is locked in. I'm fearing a reverse lock.

Now it's Sale's turn: Sale has COVID, will not start Sunday (9/10 update)

Fair, but IMHO that's not a consideration until a playoff berth is clinched.

Now it's Sale's turn: Sale has COVID, will not start Sunday (9/10 update)

Assuming nobody else goes to the COVID IL, my guess is: When one of Arroyo/Arauz return, Jack Lopez goes down. If they're both recovered, Arauz doesn't get added. Jose and Travis stay. Plenty of dreck in the pen. I'd dump Feliz and Braizer, YMMV. Thanks for your updates, super useful.

What are your thoughts on the Monaco and DiNardo pairing on NESN?

I would be fine with DOB, except for his use of swifty. For reasons I can't explain it really grates on me. I'm enjoying listening to Monaco and Lenny.

    What's going on with Rodriguez?

Fair enough. I'll change my opinion from must be more complicated to probably more complicated. Erod's K/9 this season is over 11, so on average the defense only needs to turn two batted balls into outs per inning. It's hard for me to imagine that bad defense is the only reason for his unique...

    What's going on with Rodriguez?

If bad defense was the major reason for Erod's unique ERA/FIP gap, all the Sox pitchers would have a similar ERA/FIP gap. It must be more complicated.

    Happy Birthday, Yaz!

I agree that Yaz and his peak are much more than 1967, but that year does stand out. By baseball reference WAR, only Babe Ruth had a better season. Also, today is Mike Yastrzemski's birthday.

    Matt Barnes going on COVID-IL

Watching the news this morning, respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) is going around. Per the Mayo Clinic, symptoms in adults are typically mild. Let's hope it's not COVID-19. https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/respiratory-syncytial-virus/symptoms-causes/syc-20353098

Boston Red Sox 2021 Draft Class

I went to a Cape Cod League game Tuesday night and took note that the 3B for Harwich had a cannon arm and made a super slick diving play as well. I just looked through this thread and saw that the Sox 20th pick was the one player from that game whose name I remembered! He's not hitting much...

With a 26 man roster, a 6 man rotation seems like a less bad idea than previous seasons. It still would remove a bullpen arm from what seems like a group whose innings are getting tricky to manage.
