Steve Kerr just got ejected during a chippy game in Portland (Zach Collins and Klay Thompson had words) after flagrant foul called on...yeah, Draymond.

The Warriors got several Ts - one for Draymond, one for Kerr and one for someone else. Then Jake Layman hit a three. So it was an eight point possession - I have never seen that before. I have also never seen Kerr lose his shit like that.

Portland sends the Warriors into the break with an L though Golden State is on the second night of a back to back (I know, only the Celtics lose those!)

The best part is that if you look real carefully and have basic lip reading skills you can see Durant say to Kerr on the way off the floor, "C'mon man chill. It's only an exhibition game."

--- I'm only half kidding.

Idk what the actual record is, but Portland always plays Golden State really tough.

POR is 5-10 against GSW over the past 4 seasons. 7 of their 10 losses have been by more than 10 points. 2-2 this year though
13-5 Warriors in the Kerr era, plus 8-1 in the playoffs (21-6 overall). But as you note, the Blazers have flipped the script a bit lately, winning four of the last six dating back to last season.

I like this Blazers' team better than some of the previous iterations, with the perimeter shooting of Curry, Layman, and now Hood, plus the length and defense of Zach Collins (douchy as he was last night, getting in Klay's grill and talking trash like he was a respected 10-year NBA vet, which required a talking-to from Lillard).

Great game last night, up till the ridiculous flagrant foul call and ensuing 8-point possession that turned an 110-103 Blazers lead with KD and Steph checking back in into 118-103 and game over. I can live with bad bang-bang calls, and actually thought when it happened that it might have been a flagrant, but man, the replay — which they took a ton of time to examine — clearly shows a 100% garden-variety shooting foul on which Draymond got roughly 85% ball, 15% hand/forearm and 0% head/neck/shoulder. That they would still call flagrant after taking the time to examine and re-examine the replay is unconscionable, imo. Kerr had every right to lose his shit.

The problem again is that Draymond will almost never get the benefit of the doubt. And as much as I love him, its entirely justified.

Regarding Zach Collins, he elicited an unusually firey response from Klay because Zach used some colorful language. Lillard may have talked to him about it but frankly if I am a Blazers teammate or fan, I love this approach.

The Warriors are the bully on the NBA block. I would much prefer to see my team go hard at them in every aspect versus rolling over and deferring.

Finally, I firmly believe that if Golden State wanted to, they could win a lot more of these close games by decisive margins. Unlike, say, Boston, their roles and rotations are mostly set and their biggest challenge aside from playing without certain guys who are resting/mildly injured (Iguodala and Livingston last night) is avoiding boredom as they play out the string.

Their real season begins in about two months.

Fair, but I'm saying in this case I didn't see much doubt. Do you? Even given the "Draymond factor," I was genuinely surprised when they came away from the replay and called it a flagrant.

For sure — and as a Warriors fan I'm kinda hoping the Warriors keep it in mind the next time they face each other, lol. Trashtalking a trashtalker like Dray$ is one thing, but to me Klay's in the Gretzky "hands-off" category where you better have a good reason for messing with him if you want to avoid serious chin music the next time you step up to the plate. (Apologies for the mixed metaphor).

Not sure about a lot more, but yeah, they've mailed in their fair share, like pretty much every really good NBA team ever (except maybe the 1995-96 Bulls and 2015-16 Warriors). It's hard to be locked in for all 82 games of a season; aggregate all-star talent only gets you so far when you're not locked in, motivated, and tied together on both ends. On a road segababa right before the break, without Andre, Shaun, or DeMarcus, they were ripe for the taking, and the Blazers came out and took it to them. Good show.

In 15/16/17 they won 67, 73, 67 games. They won 58 last year and are on pace for 59 this year. I don't think the team has actually gotten any worse, which the playoff results confirm, so I'd say the boredom tax is about 8-9 wins per year.

Does he begin with, "Fuck you, ho"? I've never been good at lip reading, but that's what I'm getting here.
Ha, yeah, that's definitely what I got, too. You gotta love how chill Klay is about it. Here's a longer version, with a little chippiness between Collins and Swedish Larry Bird at the end for good measure...

I was at the Warriors v. Blazers game last night. That was a fun one. And I was routing for the Blazers, but the call on Draymond was ridiculous live too. I couldn't believe they called it flagrant after the review.

If Kieff can get healthy this is a fantastic signing for OKC. Yet another long, versatile wing and with the added option of Mook playing in his stead if he is hurt and the Cs get bounced early from the playoffs.
In my dream world, Rich Paul actively pitches this as a perq of signing his Morrii clients.

It was a horrible call and Kerr had every right to lose his shit.

I know Draymond is PE #1 in this forum (or maybe two behind Harden or maybe three for us old heads who remember the now beloved Dirty Wade and his cheapshot antics) but that was simply a common foul. My bet is the Collins alterKlaytion played into things (Draymond did foul Collins hard there to be sure) and given Green's well deserved reputation as well as, perhaps, some sort of history with Kerr back to his playing days may have also contributed. Mauer, Garretson and Richardson are veteran refs - Richardson is the kid of the group with 22 seasons under his belt - and have heard a lot of shit over the years.

Poor New Orleans fans...they are about to see their team not only lose Davis but also a double digit lead into the fourth.

Pels hold on 131-122, despite losing AD. Though if I'm a Pels fan at this point I'm on team tank and vaguely annoyed with the win.

Quite the battle of former Bruins: Westy 44 pts / 14 reb / 11 ast; Holiday 32 pts / 5 reb / 7 ast.

Julius Randle continues to beast: 33 pts / 11 reb / 6 ast. Best of all the young Lakers, or right up there with D'Angelo Russell and Ivica Zubac. :)

Did AD really leave the arena before the game was over?

Yes, yes he did: http://www.espn.com/video/clip?id=26000217

I'm not even buying that he's injured, but it's probably the cleanest way for him and the Pelicans to get the result they both want, him not playing anymore.
This whole situation just sucks. Doesn’t he have a partially torn labrum injury? Do we see a Kyrie-esque, I’m having surgery unless you trade me to LA ploy this summer?

When does Bill Simmons start the Ewing Theory talk for New Orleans next year? Does he wait until AD is actually traded or does he start priming that pump now?

The Pelicans lost by 30 at home to the Magic two days ago. Presumably he'll wait a bit longer.

I know the Knicks suck but they just broke an 18 game losing streak tonight. Maybe I haven't been paying attention but that has to be one of the quietest 18 game losing streaks.

Of course the Suns have lost 15 in a row too. I guess this is just a thing now.

People have been talking about it a lot on WFAN... especially since the Nets have been playing well. But, I think the knicks have been so awful for so long now that people have sort of stopped paying attention or just see them as pathetic losers who are tanking for a top pick

He mentions how good their roster is every chance he gets so in a way he's already planted the seed.

It wouldn't surprise me at all if (for example) the Pelicans got Tatum, Rozier, SAC pick, own pick, added that to Holiday, Randle, and company, and were quickly a good team, in the mold of the Pacers or Kings.

As great as AD is, these situations often seem to improve when you clear out the mental overhead, and just have a group of young guys and vets who are all on the same page.

Imagine if the Pels pluck the #1 pick on their own? Au revoir, perpetually banged-up Brow — Zion + Tatum + Randle is instantly the most fun young trio in the league...

More fun with lip-reading from the Ws/Blazers salt-fest. As it turns out, mild-mannered Mr. Thompson and co. did have some choice words for Mr. Collins...

Both these games are great. Sacto up by two with seven minutes left. And Bron grinds the Lakers back to take the lead with around seven minutes left too

Marvin Bagley goes for 28 points and pulls down 14 boards but the Warriors win 125-123 as Buddy Hield, who struggled from deep until the end, passed up an open look on a deep three (he made it from around the same spot just before).

Hield had just swished two crazy threes to get them within range. Every Warrior fan breathed a huge sigh of relief when he passed that up (I mean, why would you even play for the tie there?)

One theory: Dave Joerger aka DeJesus Built My Hotrod had just bawled Hield out a minute earlier for launching a 35-footer over KD (that he swished, crazily). That could easily have been in Buddy's head when he hesitated on the potential game-winner.
