Yikes, Pennington said she was done after round 4 but her corner talked her out if it and she went out for the 5th. Her nose is broken and spurting blood.

Oh this got super ugly in the finish. So much blood. I hope Pennington gets a new team, you can't send a fighter back out there if their head isn't in it, especially against a killer like Nunes.
Yeah, that was bad. Everyone watching knew what was going to happen when she went back out.

That was very bad, no doubt. It's even being covered on ESPN, which doesn't really have much MMA coverage in general. I feel terribly for both fighters and thankfully Pennington avoided permanent injury. (I think)

Related, ESPN last week signed UFC to a 5 year, $150m/yr deal to show UFC Fight Night on ESPN+ and other UFC programming on ESPN outlets, including the Tuesday night contender series.

ESPN is the new home of UFC. In addition to the ESPN + online deal they announced last week, they will air 30 shows a year on tv. The total deal is 1.5 billion over 5 years.

In the past 16 months Ari Emanuel, as in the real Ari that was used to create the Ari Gold character on Entourage, had had key roles in WME’s UFC purchase, making the Mayweather/McGregor fight, landing WWE its TV deals and now this. Let there be no doubt that he is one of the all time great negotiators/power brokers.

Imagine if the NFL had some like this leading them instead of a total dunce.

From this link and what I've read elsewhere, its 15 additional events plus 12 prelims. Altogether the total revised deal has:
-30 fight nights (10 on ESPN networks and 20 on ESPN+)
-prelims for 12 PPVs on ESPN networks.

It's double the value of the prior FOX deal but not as much as UFC was looking for. If they make good though the next deal could be huge. It's also good for ESPN, even though they had to spend a lot since they are so late in the game, they need new content that isn't a bunch of talking heads, and this is frankly low-hanging fruit after FOX went all in on WWE.

Scaub on JRE says he's hearing Jon Jones will be back soon, then a minute later said he thinks it's Jones vs Lesnar and Jones vs the HW champ after that.

But anyway, Thompson Till is gonna be fucking great

how is he going to be back soon on a failed drug test where they couldnt even come up with a tainted supplement?

Jones should be getting 4 years minimum.

Not sure what you are looking for but I can check the old and not terribly athletic one stripe blue belt box for you. I roll no gi much more than gi, just because of my wrestling background.

This footage of Till trying to cut weight was...interesting:
By the end he resembles someone on life support.

Last night's card was.... not great.

That said, Gregor Gillespie is fucking awesome, with truly dominant wrestling, I hope they rank him and give him someone in the top ten next. Fighting a striker with good JJ like Pettis would be the match up I would like to see. After last night's main event, I am looking forward to seeing Morais fight the winner of TJ & Cody.

I got Yoel, 3,4,5 but it doesn’t really matter. I watch a lot of fight and often feel like their is no winner. In this fight, to me, neither of these guys is a loser.

I have not idea how this one is going to score. Impressed that Whitaker survived that last series of take downs.

I think Whitaker won most of rd 4 but Romero starched him in the last minute and I thought that was enough to win the rd.

Great fight.

I had it a draw. 10-9, 10-9, 9-10, 10-9, 8-10.

Hell of a fight though. I don’t think Yoel deserves another fight considering he lost both. Let him go down the ladder and climb up again.

I agree with all of this, if round 5 wasn’t a 10-8, I don’t know what is.

I would be really interested to see a Bobby Knuckles v. Gastellum next, though Weidman probably gets the shot if healthy.

I don’t think Gastellum has the power to scare Whittaker enough considering Yoel threw his best shots and couldn’t knock him out but you never know.

I hate Covington but man did he look good.

he's a blatant racist.

Do you take him that seriously? He was drinking from a water bottle with "nerd tears" written on the front last night. He says that race and religion are the lines he won't cross:

"I know where the line is at," Covington says. "I don't ever cross the line. I step right up to it. I put my toes on the line, but I don't ever cross that line. There are some barriers you just don't cross -- you don't talk about religion, you don't talk about race. Those are lines I will never cross."
http://www.espn.com/mma/story/_/id/23724793/a-day-colby-covington-self-proclaimed-villain-ufc-ufc-225

I am personally conflicted, and I alternate between hating the act and being wildly amused by it. Brazil is a great place. Malcom Jenkins and Chris Long are great Americans.I would love to see Colby try and slap, say, Tim Jerrnigan in the streets. But analyzing and taking seriously the ravings of combat sports (and entertainment) heels is a fools errand. I am amused by the fact that Mazvidal is apparently his best friend and most common training partner. I guess assholes bond easily.

His UFC tonight battle with Bisping last night was epic:

Bisping telling someone to tone it down is the height of irony.

His press conference last night perfectly captured the horror and hilarity that is the Covington experience:

I will say this, I was impressed as hell by his performance last night. He put together a near perfect pace and wrestling based attack on a very good fighter. I think he could be a problem for Woodley if he doesn't get taken out by Tyron's significant power advantage. Woodley is one of my favorite fighters, I hope he flatlines Colby, but I think that might be a great fight.

When you're an avid Trump supporter, you don't get the benefit of the doubt on just playing heel. He's a racist. He said that shit about Brazilians. I can't wait til Tyronne Woodley rips his head off and punts it into the stands. Fuck Covington.

Looks like a Sonnen act to me, but I only saw the fights (whatever aired last night).
Seems that way to me, though Sonnen is so much better at it. Sonnen is great TV, in the octagon or booth.

Covington tries too hard. Nothing wrong with hating on him though, since that is what he wants.

I haven't watched a lot of Covington's press, but my takeaway from those two videos is that he's trying to pull off an act that requires being a smooth talker...but he's not a smooth talker. Everything is rehearsed, and he can't improvise very well.

Bisping ran circles around him.

Agreed. I actually do somewhat enjoy seeing it in a "it's sooo try hard bad it's funny" kind of way though.

Can definitely see his pace being a big problem for a in-title-defense-mode Woodley.

Rogan's recent podcast w Firas Zahabi was very enlightening from a MMA training standpoint right up until "Science is woo". Everyone should listen to the first roughly 2 hours.
