I think most of us agree that Ben Simmons should win ROY. What we, perhaps, don't all agree on is the gap between him and Mitchell. IMHO, the gulf isn't that big. That kid is a monster.

From NBA Stats: Donovan Mitchell's 110 points through his first 4 playoff games are the most by a rookie since Michael Jordan (117 in 1985).

Russ & Melo shot 12-36 from the field for this game combined. That's 33.3% for those who don't want to use a calculator. So essentially just above Marcus Smart's 3p% from two guys who are considered vastly superior on the offensive end.

I think Melo's best days are far behind him and Russ has always been a volume shooter. Still doesn't make Smart a good three point shooter.

It was never going to happen but imagine if Colangelo has traded DOWN instead of up and picked up Mitchell, kept both LAL/SAC picks, and picked up an additional pick.

Or just not fultzed — er, futzed around and picked Mitchell at #3. I don't really follow college hoops, but at the time of the draft I remember a bunch of talk radio draftniks raving about Mitchell as a top 3 player in the draft, and the steal of the draft by far at #13. It's not like he came out of nowhere. The only conceivable knock on him was that he was a "shooting/combo guard in the body of a PG" (same basic knock that caused Curry to fall to #7) but that concern should be totally obviated when you have Ben Simmons in place. Imagine what a terrifying combo Mitchell/Simmons would be?

Yup. Embiid/Saric/Covington/Simmons/Mitchell? Goodnight.

He definitely rose during the year to where he was a solid lottery choice by the combine. But no, I don't remember ANYONE saying Mitchell should/would go top 3...or even top 5.

I love that Ingles is a quality starting NBA player.
It's amazing. I often think back to the fun 2009 Warriors summer league team, which featured (in my estimation) future superstar Anthony Randolph, future sixth man Stephen Curry, and an awkward, gangly dude named Joe Ingles, a future D-leaguer at best...

I find it hard to root for Utah on principle, but man, I love how this iteration plays the game: fast-paced, fluid and unselfish on offense; tough and tied together on D, and (unlike most of their past teams) super-entertaining thanks to the creative brilliance of Mitchell and Rubio. The contrast between them and the janky, disjointed, thrown-together Thunder is striking.

It was a bunch of ESPN Radio talking heads who said it, and with a ton of conviction. Can't remember who, but I was driving and I clearly remember thinking, "who are these annoying meatheads talking up Mitchell like they 100% KNOW he's gonna be star — I'm sure if he wasn't a big scorer and a New York / Connecticut kid, they wouldn't even know who he is!" Shows how much I know...

According to this draft review, highest anyone had Mitchell was #8. Which makes sense, as his flaws were that he was a little short and didn't shoot particularly well so no one was going to put him ahead of Fultz or Ball and even though no questioned his athleticism, most had him behind DSJ, whose athleticism was jaw-dropping. Salt Lake City is about 4 hours away, so they're the closest team to us. We've gone a few times to games, usually when the Celtics are in town. I've liked them as a team going back to the Stockton and Malone days. But watching an arena full of white fans, in white T-shirts, chanting unintelligably, made the cult status of Utah hard to ignore.

Derrick Rose turning back the clock this series. Obviously not peak Chicago form, but he has been very useful.
Offensively maybe, he's been a car wreck defensively

Why is Donovan guarding Mitchell the same way now 4 games in? Trap and force him to give it up. No one on the jazz is Larry Bird and this kid has shown he can make layups
Why they are playing Rubio so hard on the 3 point line is beyond me. Force it out of Mitchell's hands is step one.

I'm not sure which is more uncanny — Joe Ingles' ability to hit every three, or Donovan Mitchell's ability to finish every tough drive.
What's more amazing is Mitchell's biggest weakness was finishing at the rim. I have never seen anything like it

Until the trade up I was well up for trading down for 5/10 and monk/ Mitchell combo.
I was never that high on Tatum. Oops.

That rule likely cost the Nash/Stoudamire Suns a ring.
The NBATv team at the C's half was saying welll Russ was at the scorers table so it is okay he charged the court. And he should be given leeway as the MVP.

Um no. This is such a black and white rule. Leave the bench during a brawl, you miss a game. Period. Russ should be out next game.

That wasn’t really my read on what happened during that segment. Yes, they said what you say they said (party line) but the way they said it made it clear (I thought) that they thought it was shady.

There was a read between the lines vague feel, but why even try to defend it? I get it NBA owned entity, but they didn't need 3 guys with 3 separate weak excuses

Congrats Rem and London. Happy for you guys and props to you for sticking with a club that, for a while, had a difficult process to watch. However the results are undeniable and the team is stacked for years to come.

And yes, Hinkie died for your sins!

Tonight almost makes the last five years bearable for 76ers fans. In fact, the future of this team makes the past a distant memory.
The next round will be a lot tougher. But this team just got better over the past week, more confident.

If they were going to fold due to physicality this was the series
The heat really played the thug at times, including today and put up an insane number of fouls.
Think it will do them a lot of good in the long run

Nothing but impressed by Simmons walking away from everything, eg the dragic slap to the back of the head today.

Sixers Celtics series could be fun, let's try to all keep it friendly!!

Next round will only be tougher if Celtics win. Philly would smoke the Bucks like they did to end the reg season.

The key is the game threads, having separate ones and sticking to it. If you don't read all the C's fans' whining about how the refs have it in for them, and they don't read all the Sixer-fan posts about how the refs have it in for them, then we stand a chance of having civil conversation the next day.

I appreciate the sentiment but I doubt there will be anything civil about a 76ers vs Celtics series in terms of discussion in this forum. We are probably better off if we set expectations low.

And I say this as someone who loves that there are fans of other teams actively engaging on this site and in the Port Cellar in particular.

I don't think I've ever hated a player more for what he did in a series that didn't involve the Celtics than I did Manu for his tank job in the 2013 Finals.

Okay, but don't expect this celts-fan-from-the-60s to be happy that Philly is resurgent.

After Game 6 on Thursday, the next game will be at TD Garden on Saturday at 8 pm. It will be either Game 7 vs. Bucks or Game 1 vs. Sixers. So, that's a potential Bruins game at 3:00, Red Sox-Rays at 4:00, and Celtics at 8.

Damn, that kind of thwarts my hope of going to the game on Saturday. Didn't realize the Bruins had the 3 pm slot. Only good way to get to the Garden from southern NH is to take the bus, which stops running at 11, or to drive in and stay sober (LOL).

Or carpool with a buddy who's also going. Or park-and-ride, and sober up on the train back. Or crash on someone's couch who lives in-town, and go back in the morning.
