That's just brutal. He is one of my favorite players, for no particular reason that I can put my finger on.
He's up there for me too.

It was either 2014 (World Series loss) or 2015 (World Series win) that the announcer was saying near the end of the playoffs, Salvy had caught something ridiculous like 180 games, counting spring training and postseason. I knew he was pretty awesome, but that sealed it for me.

I've got a couple printing plates of his, both signed from Triple Threads that I bought right after the 2014 World Series loss and they were reduced in price.

And now they have a deal, pending a physical, per everyone on Twitter.

Charlie Blackmon signed a 6-year extension with Colorado for $108 million with a possibility of it being $116 million.

Seems like my Rockies overpaid a bit given the recent market and that the Coors effect often depresses market value for Rockies hitters.

Still glad to have the beard in Denver for his entire career. Now extend Arenado.

Recent market may not be the best indicator considering some of the motivation behind teams sitting out this past winter was so they could invest in the market next winter. Blackmon looked to be the #1 consolation prize for whomever lost the Bryce Harper sweepstakes.

6/108-116 seems like a reasonable deal for a guy who's averaged nearly 4 WAR per year the last four years.

You're right, but age is also a concern. He's 32, so this contract takes him to age 38.

He's a really good player, and a great Rocky/teammate. I just don't think, with his age and the Coors effect, he would have gotten this contract on the open market. The Rox have a history of taking care of their own guys, though, and I hope this makes it a bit easier to sign Arenado.m; they're great friends.

Delino DeShields Jr's sister (Diamond) was just picked 3rd overall in the WNBA draft. Pretty good athletic genes in that family (mom was an olympic-level sprinter).

Reds fire Bryan Price along with pitching coach Mack Jenkins. Riggleman takes over on interim basis. Old Red Sox Danny “Dr Death” Darwin brought up from minors as pitching coach.

Edit- wonder if Farrell gets considered for the gig eventually.

And yet the stupid GM who gave away Chapman instead of getting legitimate prospects for him still has his job. That's a clown show organization.

Price succeeded Dusty Baker, who had led the Reds to two division titles and a wildcard in six seasons, but was fired for never leading the team past the first round of the playoffs.

Dusty is the Marty Schottenheimer of baseball. He may never lead your team to a championship, but he’ll probably get them into the playoffs a few times, which is a good thing in and of itself. And that’s especially true when your team has suffered through several losing seasons.

Cool blurb about Ichiro. Since he started playing professional baseball:

--Vlad Guerrero was signed as an 18 year old
--Vlad Guerrero played 15 years in the majors
--Vlad Guerrero was elected to the Hall of Fame

The Indians have signed Melky Cabrera to a minor league contract. This isn't really what I had in mind when I said they shouldn't wait until the deadline to add a right-handed corner outfielder, but I suppose it still beats crossing your fingers that Brandon Guyer will get hit by a pitch.

Jonny Venters has made it back to the bigs. A vet of THREE TJ surgeries, he pitched in relief for the Rays the other night and retired the only batter he faced. First MLB action since 2012 for him.

I think the first one was definitely better, he was in full mid-air horizontal leap to get that one.

The Twins must have been very happy to leave NY, they scored 5 in the first against the Reds. Now they are losing 15-8 (!).

Matt Davidson owns the royals. He has 7 HRS At Koffman stadium. And 3 Multi Homer games vs them (I think)

Also has as many homers @royals as the royals do at their own stadium so far

Josh Hader comes on to with 8 outs to get to close the game for Milwaukee.
Gets them all by the way of strikeout with 1 walk and no baserunners along the way.

Just learned that he was a 2012 Orioles draft pick, moved in the Bud Norris trade. Happy he is out of the division, good call O’s.

Haders last 14 batters faced.:

K, K, Flyout, K, K, K, K, K, BB, K, K, K(foul bunt), K, K

only one non-K out. Only one non-out.
