Amazon pop up ad

Lately I’ve getting a pop up add congratulating me on winning a Samsung Galaxy and asking me to click on a button to claim the offer. It’s most annoying. I’m on an IPad with the latest OS. I’ve cleared the history and internet data but it still keeps coming back.. anybody else have this issue?

Anyway to prevent these hijack popup?

These are all over many sites recently, someone told me to install the "Brave" app on my iPhone, and since I did last week, no more of these.

Thanks for this bit of info. These ads are infuriating. I'm not sure what causes them. Is it some sort of malware, or is it the ad hosts of various websites? I seem to get these a lot on Wikipedia pages. They're especially annoying because you can't simply close them out, as they redirect you - and using the back button just reloads the ad. Usually need to go back several pages to bypass, and even then they often reappear.

Getting this now too (iPad also). Super annoying. Going to have to charge the android tablet.

Edit: is it just safari?

Someone suggested brave app for browsing. I’m trying it and it’s pretty good

That was me, I didn't notice there were two identical threads here, which I will now combine.

I down loaded the brave app but the pop up still occurs. Any other suggestions?

The SoSH app is really just rebranded Tapatalk. That part of the business is absolutely horrible. I’ve been trying for two years to upgrade us but they quite literally don’t respond to emails. I can’t even delete the app and re-add as a new since it’s tied to the domain.

Anyhow, use the Tapatalk app

I’ve been using Chrome on my iPad for a few hours without getting the pop up. On the other hand, using Safari would give me the pop up after just a few minutes. Good luck...

I’d prefer not to have to start using a new browser though, especially one that doesn’t integrate with 1Password.

Being able to navigate the site on Safari on my phone isn’t too much to ask.

Tapatalk app works fine.

This is happening to me on Safari every other minute. I’ve cleared by cache, used private browsing, downloaded some pop up blockers. No help. This thing is like a super virus.

This is happening all the time on Safari mobile, and no, I’m not using an extra app just to view something that is perfectly cromulent on a browser. :-/

If you go into your settings for safari and turn off JavaScript the ads can’t take over your browser. You will also lose other functionality but it’s the easiest quick fix. And can also be turned back on once the as is removed.

Just to be clear, it isn’t SoSH where I get this. This has been an iPhone spam thing for a few months now. It’s obviously some vulnerability that isn’t unique to our site. Not sure if that’s been pointed out.

It's definitely something in the ad code. I'm looking into it now. Usually google and Amazon clean it up so fast that it doesn't really impact us, but not this time.

If this happens to someone again can you capture the page source? If you don't know what page source is then ignore this request :)

I'm 99% sure it's ad delivered but as always I want to be extra cautious that it is not something else.

That domain has been blocked on the google ad side, amazon isn't as easy to work with.

It’s everywhere. Both Google and Amazon told me today that it sucks to be us. I can disable ads but I ran out of time.

This is the only site I’m getting it on. However this is one of the only sites I have whitelisted. Or did. As blocking still blocks embedded twitter.

Does clicking the x box on ads and saying you don’t want to see them anymore help?

I don’t know if there’s a correlation, but I used to get those pop ups but started rejecting some ads and I do t anymore.

I’m getting the same pop up, but going to giftsoftheMagi. Sounds like there isn’t anything we can do, just wait for google/Amazon to sort themselves out?

I got a new android last week and am getting these pop ups with no x to close them. So far only here. The phone default is chrome. Do I just need to use tapatalk instead?

I use SoSH on mobile on the regular, usually without issue, but the first time I landed on http://sonsofsamhorn.net/index.php this morning I got bounced from the forum index to some full-page spam with a "congratulations, you won!" and a popup dialog box. Killed the page and came back, it hasn't re-appeared.
