Sounds like either:
1 - Sox medical staff is still trying to assess the knee and decide if they want to sign off on the deal
2 - Another deal is in the works to create a roster spot and the Sox are not yet ready to announce the Nunez signing.

Hard not to like this deal. Great Pedroia insurance, rest for X, rest for Devers...and oh that price. Wow.

Yeah, I'd been hoping they'd get Frazier in the utility role, but this is a crazy good price.

It’s terrific deal.

Nunez starting at 2B while Pedroia is out provides a huge upgrade from Hernandez/Holt. And Nunez is good enough that if Pedroia can take his time getting game-ready, rather than rushing back while he’s still at 67%.

I just hope Pedroia realizes that himself. He's at the age he can't really push through things like he's done historically.

I really dislike at bat incentives for players though. It's a nice contract, but between him and Hanley they are likely going to be antsy if they aren't playing.

Though keeping Pedey off the field is going to be rough on Cora as well.

I think you solved it—Nunez only makes his incentives if Pedroia is injured or agrees to periodic rest. So either way, if he makes the incentives, it will have been money well spent.

As long as he doesn’t shove Pedroia down a flight of stairs or something.

That only happens if he catches him palming a five in cribbage.

I guess it really depends on in how many at bats the incentive kicks in. If it's something like 500 AB's per year then I'm sure he realistically knows that isn't happening off the bat unless other players get hurt.

Hilarious. Only in New England would this comment be even close to relevant. Love it.

On a serious note, very happy to see Nunez back - hope he is healthy and we get the bat we got when he first joined the Red Sox - he was a real spark.

At risk of piling on, the "5" remark really pegs it.
