Saves Cleveland a second and third round pick if they can sign him.

Let’s see if Denver pounces.

why does anyone think AJ McCarron is good? He was a 5th round pick. Maybe the guy gets $6m a fora couple years or something, but he isn't a fix to a problem a team like Cleveland or Denver have.

Hue Jackson worked with him for one or two years in Cincinnati. He may have seen something he likes with him at practice. He also played well in 3 games a few years ago, which is one more than Matt Flynn had before signing a $20M deal.

What kind of crap was this? Typical NFL wise guy crap.

I don’t have the ruling, but based on the read above, it wasn’t a close case.
So what we have here is a clear, cut-and-dried, case of an NFL team skirting (i.e., breaking) the rules to gain an advantage.

What will the NFL do about it?

Nothing, of course.

I was listening to WEEI this morning out of Providence and for some reason PFT was on instead of the normal EEI programming (oh right...sensitivity training day?), and Florio was talking with his co-host about this. Florio mentioned that this was a clear violation of league rules and then said that this is the kind of thing that happens around the league and the NFL turns a blind eye. The co-host then said something like, "Well Spygate was the same way - everyone was doing that!" and Florio agreed and then they moved on.

Umm, I think they'll remove the player from team control and make him an unrestricted free agent, but I'm just spit balling here and didn't mean to interfere with the persecution party.

Since the latest decision was made by an arbitrator, doesn't that mean the league had previously rule in the team's favor? Why would the league then do anything against the team after the fact?

My sense is no. It’s a claim the Bengals made, he resisted, and it went to an arbitrator for resolution.

We could be due for another of these VERY soon, if the Redskins’ tag Cousins. He will file a grievance, which will go immediately to a third party for resolution.

if Denver cuts Tailb i expect him in NE unlees TB overplays
Other than getting hurt twice in a row for the AFCCG, thus sinking their chances both years, I liked Talib on NE. On a short deal, I think he'd be a huge help, especially with Butler gone.

The labor arbitration hearing did not represent the NFL punishing the Bengals, no.

Here's hoping that the Broncos end up cutting Aqib Talib (they can save $11 million by doing so) and we're able to bring him in on a two-year deal or so to replace Malcolm Butler.

Preston Brown open to moving to NE

http://www.bostonherald.com/sports/patriots/2018/02/lb_preston_brown_open_to_being_next_bills_player_to_leave_for_patriots

There’s a lot to like about Brown, a locker room leader who never has missed a game in his four-year career and has called plays in the huddle. Given the Patriots’ injury woes last season at inside linebacker, Brown’s stability and durability would be desirable as they work to reinforce their front seven.

“I think I can definitely help the young guys they have,” Brown said. “They’ve got some good young talent at linebacker. They run pretty well. I know (David) Harris retired. A lot of young guys were playing well, (Kyle) Van Noy and (Elandon Roberts) played well. They definitely have some things they can work on like we all do, but I think I can help that defense get better."

deep inside Guido territory

The Patriots have expressed interest in re-signing Dion Lewis, but most of the league is interested, too, according to a source. Pats will have to make a strong offer to keep him. Lewis might get offers as high as 3 years, $18 million.

Take this with a grain of salt, but Chris Cooley is hearing the Vikings will be offering Kirk Cousins a 3-year, $91 million contract that is fully guaranteed.

https://kfan.iheart.com/featured/vikings-blog/content/2018-03-06-report-vikings-set-to-offer-kirk-cousins-huge-3-year-91mm-deal/
Some context.

Cooley served as NFL mentor to tight ends at the Combine. It's possible he heard something.

Minneapolis beat reporter just on DC radio. He said,

1. Vikings in on Cousins and now managing cap like madmen because they think the bids will be high. They are holding off on extending guys until this is resolved.

2. Zimmer never more than lukewarm on Keenum. Bradford non-starter because of injury problems. They like Bridgewater, but he is a huge ? medically.

I'll add that there has been a lot of Cousins discussion here, obviously, and several have speculated that his main goal is not years and not the highest paycheck. It's to go to a place where he has a reasonable chance to win, and to get a contract fully guaranteed. The latter would be his service to the NFLPA -- that and turning the franchise tag from the owners' life vest to a pair of cement shoes.

This would not be a bad deal from either standpoint. The Vikings would gain cost certainty over a period they are likely to be very good; the contact would have a short tail, which would provide maximum flexibility in out years. The AAV would quickly be eclipsed by the Rodgers and Flynn extensions, and would be 3.2 MM less than Cousins current franchise tag number

For Cousins, this would add 91 million to the 44 million he has made the past 2 years. That would be $135 over 5 years -- 27 MM average -- and he'd be 32 yrs old when the contract expires.
