That's an example of erring in the wrong direction, like the aforementioned extension of James. Drafting a player early in the second round whose ability to ever play again was seriously in question is so monumentally stupid I figured it would stand on its own as an outlier.

So yeah, it hasn't been completely ignored but when it is addressed, it's not done particularly well (Lee and Hitchens, excepted).

Yeah, they claimed they had the inside track though on this pick because they employ the doctor who gave him surgery? (I can't remember the exact details, but I think this was the case)

I am pretty skeptical on their optimism, but in fairness, originally Smith probably wouldn't be back to 100% until 2018, so he could still be a great player. But that still begs the question of whether it was wise to spend the #34 pick on a guy you may only have cost control over for 2 seasons at 100% (assuming he gets there).

Symptom of the same thing, we can get a star here cheap. And could have but it was risky. Great if it goes well. But it's not always going to.

When your salary cap is a mess (and believe you have a core capable of winning it all), you have to gamble on drafting (to a point) in order to acquire higher end talent. Unfortunately when you are a gambler at heart, self discipline becomes an issue.

Things could be worse - Manziel could be on the books.

Would be a shame if Cowboys win out and lose by tiebreakers. This is a good team with Zeke.

After last night's miracle escape, if they don't get to 10 wins and at least give themselves a chance, it'll be highly disappointing.

538 has the Cowboys with a 39% chance to make the playoffs if they finish 10-6. That's a sporting chance...but their tiebreakers obviously suck if they are still under 50% assuming a 10-6 record. If they win out and miss, they will certainly look back on that Green Bay game as one that haunted them to the end. They should have beaten them with more competent clock management.

0-3 to 4-3
Eagles HC Pederson today said he wants to get a look at QB Nate Sudfeld at some point over these next two games, and that he'd be looking for opportunities to rest players. Will be interesting to see what happens if Dallas needs that last game in Philly...

The one against Green Bay and the Rams game were both ones they had ample opportunities to win and didn't.

With the added knife twist that it could be the Packers who end their season for three out of the last four years with the same last-minute miracle bullshit.

Edit: No wonder Packers fans are so insufferable. If the Cowboys won like they did last night 4-5 times a year for a decade, we'd be a bunch of dicks too.

What they should do
Fire this entire coaching staff into the sun
Trade Dez Bryant for anything someone will give them
Explore the QB market, offering up Dak if need be
Try like hell to re-sign Lawrence

What they will do
Lose Lawrence
Bring back the entire coaching staff
Trade no one
Blame Zeke's suspension for the entire 2017 season
Go 8-8 again

It all lined up for them today and they laid such a massive egg. You’re probably right about the coaching staff but, man, I’d have a really tough time bringing Garrett back.

Dez just looks awful. He really is in the Boldin stage of his career already. As for Dak, I’m not sure if he’s improved at anything this season. Way too many sub 200 yard games this year. Going to be very interesting to see what is done this offseason. There is decent talent on this team but not enough elite talent.

Agree with everything but the comp. Boldin might have had the strongest hands God ever placed on this planet. He was a drop free zone.

I am not a Cowboy “fan”, but like many on the team and have sympathy for their good fans here. As an outsider, it just seems to me the whole falls a good bit shy of the sum of the parts. The defense is better, the front intimidating, and that was to me was a mild surprise. When Lee’s in there, they can carry their fair share of the load. What’s happening on the other side of the ball is a mystery, and for good guys like Witten, who will sail into Canton, it’s a damn shame.

Jerrah announced this morning that Garrett and both coordinators are safe so that's one big check mark.
