All things considered, I'm borderline thrilled Texas is only down 10 at halftime.

I don't understand that call on replay. He was out of bounds before jumping up for the ball. But the defender touches the ball first. He catches it and establishes possession before stepping out of bounds. But the call is that he was out of bounds before establishing possession. Either I'm way more drunk than I thought or these refs could fuck up a wet dream.

I would like to be clear, I don't think they win anyway. Just don't know what exactly the call was supposed to clarify.

right here
They screwed up the explanation. Defender touching ball doesn't matter so the process is out of bounds, jump, touch ball before landing. So he's out of bounds and therefore no catch.
I think he was never in bounds on the catch either. His right toe lands in, left foot in, but then right heel lands out of bounds without the toe coming off. So I think since the right foot is the first foot that continuation means he never fully established position on bounds. That could be 100% wrong but it's irrelevant anyway.

re:Utah. They gave up 3 80+ yard drives in a row. Probably felt the odds on winning going for two were greater than having it go to OT.

MYRTLE BEACH!!!!
Uh, yeah. But that's why it's a bad loss. Because now when they drop one of those other games (which won't be a bad loss), they won't make the playoffs when they otherwise would.

And yes, while I agree it's very likely they'd still get in with one loss, there is still some chance that the other power conference champs go undefeated (or Alabama has one loss), and they'd be kept out.

Teams that would almost certainly be in the playoffs over Clemson if they win out:
1. Alabama/Georgia/Auburn
2. Penn State/Wisconsin/OSU
3. Washington
4. TCU/Oklahoma
5. Notre Dame

And then there are a bunch of teams that would have a chance, USC, etc.
We should have a juicy thread this year once the committee releases the first set of rankings. First show is Tuesday, Oct 31. Heather Dinich is the gold standard IMO. She's been pretty solid in the past from a standpoint of predictions and understanding how the committee thinks. Here is her article breaking it down as of today.

IMO opinion no one is getting in with 2 losses. Unless there are only 2-3 teams with 1 loss. 9/12 in the past 3 years had a loss. So I think ACC, SEC, Big10 all advance a team with one loss provided no one is undefeated in their conference.

I think the reaction to Clemson's loss has been pretty spot on. Pretty much everyone acknowledges they are still highly likely to make the playoffs if they win out, but that this loss removes all the margin for error the rest of the way. Much like last year, losing to Pitt did not ruin Clemson's season, but losing to Pitt and Michigan ruined Penn State's season.

In the first three years of the playoff, there have been an abnormally high number of zero or one-loss conference champions, which is less likely going forward, especially since the Big 12 has a championship game again. I understand the Needler's post about the four other conference champions plus Notre Dame winning out, and topping Clemson, but I don't think that's very likely.
