Bill Simmons will be on with Francesa at 5pm today.

IIRC last time they did this it was pretty good.
I know round these parts it is an unpopular take to like Simmons which I do, but in any case, The Simmons Francesa relationship is so odd, Mike treats Simmons with so much respect, almost deference, it really stands out because Mike treats almost all his callers like shit.

I think its 50/50 on Simmons here (+/-) but it used to be 80/20, as he's become a media star rather than "our" secret I still like the guy, as I think he's entertaining, but I do not read/listen to him nearly as much as I used to..

Agreed on their relationship. IMO both have enormous respect for each other's role as a leading figure/pioneer in their respective media. I think if they worked together on a more frequent basis and each were honest in their fan roots and feelings, it could get antagonistic/snarky (a latter day M&MD but witha NY/Boston twist) and be wildy entertaining.

Disagree on how Francesa treats most "celeb" guests. He's generally polite to these caller/guests, even if there is a difference of opinion (there are some exceptions). He needs these guys for a 6 hr show, so he doesn't shit on them . But the average Vinny from Queens, he will shit on them in a heartbeat.

Bankshot you are 100% correct that Mike treats celeb guests well. Thanks for pointing that out.

Did he go off on the Giants? What about Eli being attacked by HC?

I need entertainment.

Simmons will be back with Mike tomorrow. Fatty went 3-0 and Bill went 0-3 on picks last week so, according to Mike, Simmons asked to come back to redeem himself. I think the smart money is on Francesa heading to The Ringer to do some sort of podcast after he leaves the FAN.

Lombardi v. Mike F on the topic of Belichick will be riveting.

Eh, what's he going to rant about without Beckham's antics for the rest of the season?
Righteous indignation will issue when the Giants are accused of tanking the season to have the pick of the lot as Eli's potential successor.

If you look at their schedule, they could easily go 1-15 without tanking.

@Denver
Seahawks
Rams
@Niners
Chiefs
@Washington
@Raiders
Cowboys
Eagles
@Cardinals
Washington

They may not be favored in any of those games, with the possible exception of the game against the Niners. 0-16 is on the table. Ben and Jerry may be headed out the door.

I heard him mention that it was Mantle's birthday, buit I heard no prediction about tonight's game.

A caller today asked him about that earlier(2004) "not in our house" prediction and he said he didn't believe it and was trying to put a brave face on against what he said was an inevitable outcome after Game 5. (ie the Ys had no pitching). Whether this admission was bullshit to cover for his bravado 13 years ago is unknown, but I had never heard him address it before.

He thought they had no chance against Schilling going into Game 6? Did he miss Game 1? We had no reason to believe that Schill would be dominant in Game 6. And neither did Fatso. What a fraud.

The Mickey Mantle's birthday shit is so unbelievably stupid.

It really is incredible how the Sox came back from 0-3 down in 2004. Having just gotten their doors absolutely blown off, they were facing the prospect of winning four in a row.

The Mariano comeback in Game 4. The comeback in Game 5. Schilling, coming off a bludgeoning in Game 1, gives a legendary performance in Game 6. Lowe, on two days rest, in Game 7. It's all been said before, but my goodness...that was absolutely epic.

And since I was listening I can assure you the Fat Fuck saw none of it coming.

I think Francesa has a hard time admitting he's wrong, (ever) and is now engaging in some revisionist bullshit. I don't think he thought in October 2004, his Yankees could ever lose 4 in a row to the Sox.

"I knew they wouldn't make it cuz they couldn't hit in Houston."

No Fall Classic; Giants 1-5. Tough walk year.

I'll give him this, though. He rooted for these teams and he celebrated when they won. Unlike a few a-holes in Boston.

I listened passively during this phone call. I don’t think he said he saw the 4 game comeback coming, but knew they were screwed after game 5 or 6. I forget which. He referenced the lack of pitching, which isn’t a hot take when we remember the game 6 & 7 starters were Jon Lieber and Kevin Brown.

I don’t think he’s being honest, but Joe Torre wrote something comparable in his book. He admits he had zero belief in Kevin Brown and anticipated the worst before game 7.

I listened to him every night/day during the 2004 series. He and the callers went from supremely confident after game 4, to mildly concerned after game 5, to about 50/50 after game 6. Most callers were nervous but didn't expect the Yankees to lose, and neither did he.

He's not going to be a happy camper today as his prospective programming for the next 2 weeks (and 2 months) took a whack this weekend.

With his Ys bowing out in Houston and the G-Men spitting up against,Seattle and for all intents and purposes their '17 season is dead, he may ride into the sunset talking about the Nets, horse racing and drafting Opie's successor at QB.

The Yankees didn't choke according to Mike.
He must get pretty tired moving all his goalposts all the time.
I thought losing on Mantle's Birthday was bad and that losing the last 2 games of a 7 game series was also bad. The Baby Bombers don't lose, they just grow and adapt like the Borg?

What was his prognostication when the series returned to Houston?

I don't imagine last night's football game helped his mood. He loves him some Matt Ryan, and of course as far as the Pats are concerned .

Francesa (to paraphrase) thought if the MFYs did not win the 6th game, it was unlikely they would win the 7th game. IIRC he made no prediction on Game 6, other than to say that the Ys were playing with "house money". Which I think is a BS cop-out for a team that went all in and added (face value) about $40 million in salary at the trading deadline

So far today its been mostly MFY and defending Opie's future as QB of the NYFG.

If Girardi had an axe to grind, he left it at home.

He was very gracious, he thanked eveyone and went out without any shots at anyone.

Now looking forward to FF going ballistic on the NYFG.
