How's his podcast? I love the cranky old bastard but I can see him and some of his guests coming off a bit dated.

I did love Ryans response to someone saying to Sean McAdam on Twitter that the 67 Sox were mediocre losers:

"What a consummate missing the point asshole you are. Collosal turd. You have no clue whatsoever."

"Not you, Sean. That other asshole."

It's pretty good. Maybe a bit dated feeling. Ryan is better as a guest of Bill Simmons than a host of his own pod but if you grew up with him (reading/watching) I think you should try it.

Ryan is a longtime guest for Kornheiser, does TK return the favor?

Not yet. Bob's show really caters to a Boston audience. He's had on Bird, Cousy, Lucchino, Sean MacDonough, Jackie Mac, Bob Lobel & Gammons that I remember. He also had on David Stern so not all super local.

The ones with Kevin Cullen, Sean McDonough, and Charlie Pierce stood out in particular to me. In general I like the podcast, I've probably listened to about half of them. Bob Ryan has some pretty interesting and/or funny old stories. His memory of things that happened 30-40 years ago is impressive.

The volume of the podcast seems mastered at an annoying low level.

He isn't a great host per se, because he's Bob Ryan. He's always overcome the voice and occasional rocks in the mouth with pure enthusiasm and knowledge. But the guests are great for Boston sports, particularly if you've got a historical bent like myself.

Yeah, as someone who grew up reading him, the stories are great. I certainly enjoyed Cooz, Jackie, Stern and even Howard Bryant (who came off as very smart and equally likeable).

Thanks for letting me know about Bob's podcast. I just listened to the one with Peter Gammons. It was awful. It only last a hour and a half. It should have been like a baseball game, last for over 3 hours and is 1 out of 162.
Maybe they can't fill all that time. Maybe they can.
