michael taylor and brian goodwin have been doing a great job filling in for jayson werth, who is bound to come back eventually. their offense is amazing, i dont see them needing to spend prospects on another bat. their farm system got depleted over the winter as well, they don't have a lot to play with

Unless the Werth and Taylor injuries are worse than they're letting on, they have much bigger issues than adding another outfielder. With Ross out for the season, they could use a fifth starter and I still think they will try to add a closer so they can use Madson and Doolittle as set up arms.

Thy have for regulars with OPSing higher than .960. Harper and Rendon are above 1.000. They could use some bullpen help, but no reason to waste prospects on a half season LF rental. They have the NL East locked up(i know, anything can happen) but their bullpen is the clear weakness.

Mets and Cards tied at 2, bottom of the 9th. Mets have 1st and 3rd, two outs, sharp grounder down the first base line that Carpenter has to go into foul territory to grab. He turns around to make the routine flip to 1st...

and the pitcher (Rosenthal) isn't covering the bag. Ballgame.

The Cubs took a 3-2 lead over the Cards into the 8th, now it is 11-3 Cards, still in the 8th, and still nobody out. That's not ideal bullpen work.

Does the lack of Saturday afternoon baseball bother anyone else besides me? 2 games at 4:05, every other game 7:05 or later.

As someone in a European time zone (EST +5), it bothers me a lot, since afternoon games are the only sensible way I can watch live baseball.

Very much so. Why wouldn't you capitalize on a whole day of baseball.

Chris Archer gets Adrian Beltre to fly to deep center for the third out of the sixth, stranding two and protecting the TB 3-1 lead...

except Mallex Smith botches the ball, two runs score, Beltre winds up at second, and scores on two wild pitches from the thoroughly flustered Archer. 4-3 TEX.

Archer doesn't handle adversity all that well. 3 blown lead, one run gut punch losses to the Rangers this weekend. Total momentum killer.

I like his emotion, but yeah, the closeup on him during the Smith play told it all. It's cool to live and die on each pitch/play, but you need to be able to bounce back when it doesn't go your way if you're going to be a legit ace.

California. Duh.
Cody Bellinger hit a 3 run home run in the bottom of the 8th to give the Dodgers a 6-4 win over the Twins. It's the 47th consecutive win for the Dodgers when they have held a lead at some point in the game.

That homer made a winner out of 30 year old Edward Paredes, who threw a scoreless inning in his major league debut after spending 12 years in the minors.

Carlos Rodon with 11 strikeouts through 4. He has given up 7 hits, 4 runs, and walked 3 however.

Must be having Sox in your name. White Sox put runners on second and third, no out, then total squander. Cubs did replace Lackey with Carl Edwards after Lack allowed the second and third runners.

The Indians jumped out to 7-0 lead on the Angels in the 2nd inning, thanks in part to Bradley Zimmer's first career grand slam. Then they squandered the 7 run lead, blew several opportunities to score again, and headed into the bottom of the 11th inning… at which point Edwin Encarnacion hit a walk-off grand slam. After opening the 2nd half with a 1-5 West Coast trip against two last place teams, the Indians have won 5 in a row at home.

Don't have the full details, watching MLB Tonight. Paul Molitor of the Twins seems to have botched a double switch, Dodgers called them on it, 18 minute delay on the field.

Classic Dusty batting Goodwin (career OBP .308) and Difo (career OBP .332) 1-2 in front of Harper. Murphy batting 5th (OBP .390 this year and last), Rendon 6th (OBP .422 this year, .357 career). Want to maximinze ab for your weak hitters and make sure Harper bats with as few men on base as possible.

Dodgers come back and win again, sweeping the Twins. They're an almost inconceivable 36-6 in their last 42 now.

Gerry Davis told Beltre to get back in the on deck circle, so Beltre moves the on deck circle and gets tossed. Could've been a fun exchange for the future HoFer and ump, but you know this game is all about the umps.

5 out of 6 batters have now gone deep for the Nats in the 3rd vs the Brewers. Crazy!
Michael Blazek, who gave them all up, finally gets pulled.

This is pretty amazing, Rendon just made it 5 HR out of the last 6 batters. Daniel Murphy was the guy who spoiled things by making a fly ball out.
