Wallach made some comment about how you have to be a team official to represent the team at the lottery. So, they would have to sign him to something.
How do they define team official? I imagine the Bucks' owner's daughter wasn't an official one nor the Cavs kid.

I think the Gorman interviews are even better. I learn something new every time. Plus, he's got a great, dry sense of humor and is not afraid to mix it up. But he is always respectful in how he does it.
Agreed, Gorman's weekly interview is the best radio in Boston in my opinion.

Pierce could not "sign" with the Celtics as he is under contract with the Clippers until the end of the NBA league year, and the draft lottery occurs during the playoffs.

Didn't Dan Gilbert's kid represent the Cavs one year? I wouldn't be surprised if Wallach has no clue.
Wyc was the one who said it needs to be a team official ('of some sort'), not Wallach.

I agree that it will likely be Pierce though based on how he reacted.

Perhaps the Clips could release him or the league could figure out a way to make this happen
Yeah, I gotta say I don't think the NBA or the Clippers are going to stand in the way of this, if indeed the Celtics are serious about it. What's the upside for the Clips, and why would they care?

I suppose Doc could have a grudge, but you'd think nutjob Ballmer is enough of a businessman to realize it's more useful to be a good guy here and bank a small favor with Wyc and Silver than screw around with any possible Doc ego trip.

I'm not sure Celts intend on it being Pierce anyway, but doubt his contract status with Clips is an issue.

I think the path of least resistance re: Pierce would be them waiving the requirement that you have to be a team official to represent a team at the lottery.

I think it's easier than granting a team an exception for waiving a player before the season ends. I'm not sure this would cause any other issues down the road, as I'm not familiar with the CBA, but I think that would be cleaner/easier (if LAC is ok with it) to waive the team official requirement

Can we send them the Ice Follies?

So have the Celtics formally exercised their option to swap? If not, wouldn't it be BKN sending a rep?
They did it back in January, I think. The Globe mentioned it briefly as a fact about 3-4 weeks ago

I like T&R, but I heard a segment today that made me roll my eyes. They were talking about the Adam Jones thing and Rich brought up the number you can call to get security to usher out an unruly fan and wondered if anyone has ever used it. Fred was like, "What are you serious? I'd never narc on anyone. I'd just tell the guy to shut up!" Then they told a story about a friend who wore a Social D shirt that had "shit" written on it to a Braves game (the guy put it on inside out, so it couldn't be read) but someone still called security on him.

A couple of things:
1. These are two completely different instances.
2. Narc on anyone? What are you 15-years-old?
3. You'd tell him to shut up? What happens if he doesn't? Then what, tough guy?
5. That's literally is what security is for.

I agree with them that you don't "narc" on someone for sneaking in a bottle of Southern Comfort or for swearing a couple of times. But when there are a couple of assholes in the park calling a player the N-word, yeah, you narc on them and get them the hell out of the park.

So ... he'd do basically what Gomes said he'd do in grocery store by taking care of it himself? That they've made fun of for like 2 years?

That's a good point and I didn't think of it like that. But yeah, that's exactly what they said they were going to do.

They had an amusing segment today, asking women to call in to say whether or not they would sleep with Kelly Olynyk. Three said yes, two said no. Their reasons were pretty funny.

I know he's an easy target but I could listen to them make fun of Ray Lewis 24/7. Great but this morning on his opening about Gronk.

Also I'm pretty sure Fred thinks Buzz Aldrin is dead.

Was on vacation and haven't listened in a couple weeks. Not sure who the fill-ins were today but had to turn it off after 5 minutes. Totally unlistenable.

I flipped on CSN for a few. It was Bertrand and Hardy. I actually think that's a HUGE upgrade over the typical blah Johnston and Flynn fill-in. Although I am curious as to why Bertrand got the call to come in for the AM slot. They must have been short on available people.

I don't think Flynn is available currently as isn't he living in NYC full time at the moment due to his son starring in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory?

Bertrand & Hardy were in this morning. Bertrand is in the T&R slot the rest of the week. Management must not be happy with with the regular fill-ins like Flynn in one of the drive-time slots or they've got a short bench this week.
Got it.

I've been out of the loop most of the past 10 days so I was interested in hearing talk about the Heyward signing and the Sox hot streak. Instead it was 5 minutes of Ainge bashing because he didn't trade for Paul George. Really terrible.

Bertrand has been a big Ainge critic, so I'm not surprised.

Celebrity 98 mile to trash TSH personalities. Didn't catch any other details
They didn't give much. They basically said it's a bunch of people the station hasn't been very nice to, sounds like a combo of local media and local sports players.

Meh. I have a feeling this is gonna be quite lame as a whole. Depends on what "celebrities" they get, but I can't see the same effort being put in that the 98.5 "personalities" gave in years past. Exhibit A would be the Wiggy rap disaster. (Although that did turn out to be unintentionally funny later on) Unless Rich is going to micromanage and write/produce essentially everything. Merriweather is a must of course.

When the hell did that change?
Do you mean they always run bits into the ground, or they don't? Because I usually hear them do something 2-3 times, then move on from it. Unless it is a can't-miss like the Drunken recaps. Or talking to the Chili Guy. But even then they didn't do those bits every other day or every week. In this case they did the 98 mile a few times with the actual hosts, but tried to change up who was in it each year. This time around they're doing celebrities roasting the hosts, which is a fun way to keep it fresh and not be too repetitive.

I am fairly certain I heard Kirk say today that the K&C show would be participating in 98 Mile next week.

Someone called in this morning and said that T&R lost the last month of the ratings book, which wasn't public info unless you subscribe to Neilson. Fred lost his mind for about 2 minutes about it being a WEEI plant, which it probably was.

It was interesting to see that they won April and May, but lost June due to a huge spike for K&C. Fred seemed to dismiss it as something that happens in ratings occasionally.

EEI's ratings spike when the winter teams (Pats, Celtics, & Bruins) finish their seasons. It is as predictable as the seasons. TSH will get the opposite bump when the Pats play their first pre-season game and will hold the advantage until next spring, when the cycle begins anew.

TSH getting killed in June is how this goes. TSH contributes to this by limiting their top tier hosts to vacations in the June-July-August corridor. With a bunch of employees who now have been around long enough to get the extra week added, they're faced with "fill-ins" on 3 out of 5 days for most of the summer months.

Also factor in that 98.5 doesn't include streaming numbers, while WEEI does. I think Chad Finn said previously that T&R gets an additional 3.4 rating if you include streaming. The last book T&R lost I believe was also summer. This will all change once Entercom owns both stations as ratings will include streaming, most likely, going forward.

Edit: Fred's comments werent really about June. he seemed to attribute it to an anomaly that happens time to time due to how ratings are collected.

I am sorry to have missed it. Fred ranting about inside radio, especially when he's genuinely riled up, is always fascinating.

Apart from his considerable talents as a curmudgeonly wonderful misanthrope with an Eddie Money fetish, he's a total radio pro and the moments when he's actually mad are usually about the kind of "inside baseball" shit that infuriates us all about our jobs.

WEEI won the quarter even with streaming included per Chad Finn's write up.

But WEEI collected one enormous and significant victory, with its “Kirk & Callahan” morning program finishing first (11.9), a spot ahead of the Sports Hub’s “Toucher and Rich” program (10.4. plus 0.4 for its online stream).

Yeah Chad was pretty much unequivocal that the latest ratings for WEEI were a huge win and certainly weren't just seasonal changes due to other programming(Sox, Pats etc.).

So the first round of 98 mile tomorrow will be Wes Walker vs. Brian Scalabrene. They said Wes doesn't like one particular sports hub guy. Has to be Felger?

certainly sounded like there's no love lost between Wes and Felger. The 98 miles have gotten stale imho but there were a few lines that made me chuckle this morning -

And as Fred rightly pointed out, Felger is from Wisconsin, so the line didn't even make sense. Scal killed it, but Welker sounded like a man who has been hit in the head so many times that he loses his train of thought every 7 seconds. To be fair, that may not be all that far off from his day to day life at this point. Getting stale may be an udnerstatement at this point. Picking My Name Is for a beat because I guess Country Grammar was spoken for? Understood that a bunch of middle aged white guys aren't scouring the web for beats, but you couldn't use Humble or something made in the past 15 years?

I meant that they find something that gets a laugh once and they keep trotting it out long past the point of it getting annoying (i.e. their obsession with getting Bird on the air).

This 98 Mile thing is just crap. Not funny at all. At what point does the "Old white guys rapping" shtick finally get put to bed?
