Resuming the tradition for 2017. Bump this thread for weekday day games, cause it's easy to not be aware the Sox are playing on an afternoon.

Sox game started at 1:35, but we're only in the 4th inning. Sale is mowing them down; Verlander is laboring a lot more, his pitch count is way higher and the Sox lead 1-0.

Just my opinion, but I think we should have a new thread for every weekday afternoon game with the date, time and opponent in the thread title.
When the same old thread gets bumped multiple times, the old posts cause confusion.
New threads are good, right?

In my humble opinion no. Normally I'd agree with you on the need for new threads, but on this case, you would normally not have many posts in the thread. You would have many threads with only 1 or 2 posts in them. The "new" threads would be cluttering up the main board. Most of the mods strive to avoid clutter. On this topic only, it is better to have one big thread than ten different threads with one or two posts in them. Maybe as a compromise, a moderator can simply change this thread title every time there is a day game.

Confusion comes when you click on this thread and the second post says "2PM start time today" but the game actually starts at 1:00, or 11:00, or 4PM.

It's no big deal, but the whole point of these threads is to help everyone know when the game is. Old posts like that can do the opposite.

And we have weekday afternoon games like once every month, these posts wouldn't be "cluttering up the board."

EDIT:
I am editing this, rather than making another post, because each time anyone posts here, the thread that says "Day Baseball Today" goes back up to the top of the page, even though there is a night game tonight, no day baseball. :facepalm

Which kind of proves my point that the megathread can cause confusion.

I mostly care about this because I am the one who first started making these threads years ago. It's good to have the reminders, just seems to me that we could tweak it to make it work better.

But again, it's not that big of a deal. Do what you will.

Bump the thread on the relevant days, and I'll do my best to edit the title accordingly.

New posts in this thread means "whatever day it is, there's a day game today". Use the link to jump down, or scroll to the bottom, if you need the start time. The point is the reminder.

edit: we had single threads in 2016, in 2015, in 2014... and farther back as I can recall. that doesn't mean it's infallible, but it's the system people have come to expect.

I like the single thread. Just posting this information for folks who may not have it:

  • Red Sox downloadable schedule for your digital devices.
  • If you have a smartphone, you can use the MLB At Bat app (even if you don't subscribe) to get an alert for game start time. This is my preferred method to know what time first pitch is. These alerts are updated frequently (so if a game's start time is pushed back due to a scheduling conflict, or if it's announcing the start time of a makeup game, you'll know). It doesn't tell you when a game is delayed due to rain, though, or when play is expected to resume because of a rain delay. The Red Sox twitter account is great about this, though.
  • If you have a smartphone, you can ask "What time do the Red Sox play today?" and get the answer. Oddly, asking Siri "What time do the Sox play today?" results in you having to clarify if you meant the Amarillo Sox or the Bristol Sox.
