Although I'm disappointed the Horns couldn't take two of three against LBSU, I am incredibly heartened by the fact that the future appears bright for the program.

I am still sad that Skip had to go but at least Augieball already feels like a distant memory.

Their new pitching coach is my wife's uncle - Skip Johnson. He is a good recruiter and will be able to coach them up so you should see a marked improvement.

From a personal standpoint, it pained me greatly to see him go from Texas to Oklahoma. Would have much preferred to see him go to Texas Tech, where I figured he would go because he's good friends with Tim Tadlock. I just still can't get over seeing him wear those colors (puke).
Sorry, Bosoxen. You'll be seeing Skip in lots of Crimson and Cream! Head coach of the Sooners.... I wish more people went to the baseball games, but the softball team has been better than baseball for years so it tends to draw the bigger crowd. (Frankly, the baseball field is a better place to watch any kind of sport because it provides lots of shade.) The only cloud on anyone's horizon is that OU President David Boren will probably retire in a few years. Who knows how his successor will approach the athletics program.....

I'm super happy for him. He deserves this shot and has worked extremely hard for it. I can't say I'm not disappointed he didn't get that shot in Austin but I'm able to set aside rooting interests for family when it comes to TCU, so I think I can manage this as well. Though there is a slight difference in degree when it comes to Oklahoma. ;)

Thought about wandering up the street to see if I could grab a ticket for tonight's game but got sidetracked.

If I am the Detroit Tigers, I am cringing at O'Sullivan's decision to send Faedo out in the eighth inning. I know it was a cramp but if the guy alters his delivery just a bit and hurts himself after throwing 112 pitches they are screwed.

Yeah, I can't believe they sent him out again.

And then there is a brutal call on LSU for Jake Slaughter's slide wide of the bag to take out the fielder which takes the tying run off the board. Ugh.

No it was the right call. He slid wide of the bag and was called interference by the letter of the rule.
Oh it was the right call - I agree. It was just brutal for LSU given the situation. It hurts, right call or not.

But here comes LSU right now. What a great game.

LSU played sloppy and made bad decisions. The bad slide, the squander with a runner on third and no outs. And on and on.

Congrats to all Florida Gators fans.

MYRTLE BEACH!!!!
Don't know if anyone has paid attention to the College of Charleston mess, but here are some articles that cover it, (1 and 2).

Basically, they fired Matt Heath who took over after Monte Lee left (2 seasons). He left because there were complaints by players that he was abusive to players. Jury is still out on those facts and he's suing the school. I don't have any real inside info there, but it seems bizarre since he was on staff with Monte before he was hired.

They then search, hire Chad Holbrook, he accepts, the AD tells him to inform his family pending an announcement and the President then stops that hire. Apparently former players, including Brett Gardner, lobbied hard at the last minute for a former player. So Chad pulls his name out of the running. A few days later they were back on Holbrook and offered him the job, again. He took it again and was announced as the coach last week.

Just a mess from a school who has a history screwing major hires up.
