Great great fight. But I had Wlad up by about 2-3 rounds before he got stopped.

All credit to AJ but he looked like dogshit for most of the fight. I'd say the only thing that kept him from being knocked out was Wlad not truly going for it

AJ was up on two of the three judges scorecards when the fight was stopped and the 11th was gonna be a 10-8 if it wasn't stopped. Wlad controlled the middle rounds and I thought he'd get it done. AJ did what I've never seen him do before, hang on, and get his shit back together and regroup for the later rounds, which for him was uncharted territory.

I thought Wlad looked sharper than he had been for some time. Looked like the jab was working really well. Maybe he was too tired to keep throwing combinations.

I loved the post fight speeches/interviews. Good to know you can still sell/promote a fight without being a dick to and about the other guy.

AJ's bodywork led to the late knockout and he did well to regroup. But reading that he was up on the cards at the time of the stoppage is disappointing

I'll post a good link when one pops up but if you're into the face off HBO does to hype the ppvs, the Canelo Chavez Jr one was good stuff. Chavez owns all his shit and just trolls Canelo (who always takes himself way too fucking serious). In (very good) English, Chavez sits there for 10 minutes just boxing message board bombing Canelo. "You beat Shane Mosely? But which Shane Mosely did you beat?" And my second favorite, while looking at Max sarcastically, "Amir Khan, that was a good fight?"

I love it.

This is the biggest fight between two Mexican fighters since when... the Barrera/Morales fights? I bet it even draws bigger than that so I don't have a comp in my head. Should be a good one.

Biggest in terms of? I mean, the Chavez name is huge, but unless he comes in halfway in shape it's going to be dull as hell. And I respect JCC after the end of the Martinez fight and am pulling for him.

Hard to sympathize too much for a Klitschko getting jobbed by hometown scoring. Still it sucks for the sport in general.

He'll be in shape but other than a concrete head, he has few advantages over Canelo.

Come on now, he'll be a shitload bigger and we're talking about one of the better body punchers in the game when he's on. If he's in shape and wants it, I think there's a very good shot he could win. In fact, I'm going to check the odds right now and if I can get like 3:1, I'm in.

You're right. He is an excellent body puncher but so is Canelo. But I feel you on this. He is truly motivated so we won't have to worry about a poor effort or preparation.

Before you place that bet, check if there is a rehydration clause. Because he may not be able to blow up that much after the weigh in.

Yeah, good call - I thought of that last night then let it drop out of mind.

Canelo is just so damn easy to hit. I think a guy with power who stands in front of him and slugs can put him away.

I just mean in terms of draw

A Mexican fight fan friend of mine was also telling me there's a bit of a push back against Canelo as the face of Mexican boxing. Not just the red hair and pale skin, but his refusal to fight GGG lost him some love in the eyes of a country where boxers generally fight anyone, any time and all the time.

This 100000000%. He lost LA the last 2 years. They don't appreciate being trolled and extorted for ppv $ with fights against lliam Smith and amir Khan.

Mexican fight fans are very knowledgeable too. They know Chavez Jr is a clown but they recognize the difference in positions and importance between the two so Canelo's business like approach is more of an insult. Because at the end of the day, yeah Chavez Jr doesn't take the sport seriously but he's not parading around as the new Mexican God of boxing.

So it oddly makes Chavez Jr the people's favorite on Saturday. Anything short of Canelo announcing the GGG fight is signed and done right after the fight is pretty much career suicide for Golden Boy.

Yes! Pulling for you. Especially with Canelo's ho ass being a "business man" while still in his prime

He took a beating and didn't run. That's not cowardly in my book. He was totally overmatched and outclassed
That's not how I saw it. He ran all night. Didn't do anything but back up, even when Canelo invited him into the ropes.

But yes, he was outclassed. He's a bum.

Smith, Khan, and now Chavez Jr. 3 clear ppv $ tax Canelo put on the public. No reason for this or those fights.

The GGG will be interesting because both are great combination punchers who mix the body and headshots beautifully. Even though GGG is much older, he'll still have the quicker feet which may be the difference

Crawford lost me tonight. Too much showboating and just a lack of respect.

I wish he had the balls to fight in his real weight class, 147, to see if he'd still hold up to the shots he takes.

Brook Spence in under an hour.

I've switched my rooting interest to Spence. American WW, let's bring a belt back home

In Brook's defense, he just fought two murderers that no one had the balls to fight.

Smart move by him to bow out. He clearly couldn't see for the last 2 rounds
Oh, I'm in no way badmouthing him. He fought valiantly. But I think GGG did permanent damage to his face. His future is in serious doubt.

I think he can still have a future at 147 if he still wants to fight. Porter and all can't do this to him. The physicality of GGG and Spence nuetralized his main weapon, the jab.

Spence on the other hand, I can't see anyone beating him at 147. Too strong and I love me some Thurman but no, can't see it

Well, another orbital fracture, another surgery, and his promoter is saying he's done at 147 for sure. I maintain he's a dead man walking, and Golovkin is the main reason why. Never should've made that fight.

Yup. Just read that. Sucks. Moving to 154 is a bad move too. It's probably the deadliest division in boxing right now.

Could his promoter be saying 'no to 147' in a negotiating ploy?
But against who? His leverage as an A side was used against Spence. That's why I respect him so much, he had the balls to face the other terminator.

He's killed himself to make 147, I think he just might not want to do it again.

And thinking about fight more, his team's game plan was terrible. They were banking on one of the most destructive brutal body puncher to slow down despite Spence never being in any wars previously. Choosing to make it a close quarters fight, even giving credit to Spence for cutting the ring off well, was lunacy.

The only fight out there for Brook now, is Amir Khan. Khan ducked Brook for years, claiming he had nothing to offer, but Khan is now claiming it's the other way round - which in itself is bollocks, as Khan has no leverage either anymore. They genuinely dislike each other and it would make a great fight, especially over here in the UK.

The 147 thing, may be a negotiating ploy to use against Khan, as Khan has only been above that once and got starched in the process.

IT, where have you been?? Another boxing fan. Me and Marc are lonely in here.

I agree 100% on your Brook/Khan take. Really for both fighters, it's the biggest money fight out there (Khan is never getting the Pac fight). We'll see this summer, if Khan remains inactive then I think it points to him waiting Brook out.

I used to post a bit on here, but I'm in the UK and only really get to watch the big fights that are over here, so outside of tape-delay I don't have a lot to say on big fights in the US.

I'll try and contribute more on what I'm hearing over here though.

I don't want to encourage nefarious behavior.... but let's say there's a fight on, the boxing subreddit may direct you to the proper viewing places.
