In other Devils news, reports have been coming out over the past few weeks that Ilya Kovalchuk is contemplating a return to the NHL.

Kind of a weird process for this. NJ still holds his rights. The rules surrounding this are that Kovalchuk can either sign with NJ, or would need approval from all 31 teams to become an unrestricted free agent. The latter is highly unlikely- can't see NJ agreeing to lose him for nothing. A NJ sign and trade seems like the most likely route. Kovalchuk just turned 34 and posted 32-46=78 in 60 KHL games this season. An interesting wrinkle added to the offseason. Maybe the #1 overall entices him to stay in NJ, if they want him?
