I'm missing why people hate Day so much? Is it just that he seems fragile or a drama queen? I understand the history, but I have trouble - given his family back story - giving the guy shit for being emotionally detached from playing a golf match because his mom is sick. Obviously it didn't occur at the moment, but if it's not there, it's not there. Soldiering trough another few holes to lose 8&6 or whatever accomplishes what?
He's an attention whore who makes a gigantic show out of every little piece of adversity that happens to him. He held a press conference when his fucking wife got the flu during one of his practice rounds, wondering if it would affect his preparation. He has had legitimate obstacles in his life, and he is a supremely talented player, but this is just ridiculous at this point. It's always something with him.

I've always hated him (FL4WL3SS can attest to that), but now he's fucking up my fantasy team, so it's personal. ;)

It was the looming surgery she's having on Friday that appears to have pushed him over the emotional edge.
Then don't fucking play in the tournament. I totally understand that this is affecting him and if he didn't want to play - making this giant show out of it is what infuriates me. I'm sure it had nothing to do with being 3 Down in 6 holes, too.

I mean Stephen Bowditch fell asleep at a stoplight at 1am, spent the night in jail, and still made his 8am tee time and played the round! (obviously I'm being facetious here)

That's fair. I guess I don't pay that close attention and kind of attribute the press conferences to the press needling more than him 'holding them' as some kind of announcement, but I can see the attention whore aspect.

And yeah, I've hated players in various sports for fucking up my fantasy teams or gambling. Spurgeon Wynn can rot in hell.

Actually, you liked him initially, but the worm started to turn at Chambers Bay.

I hope he holds 20 similar press conferences this year just to piss you off. It's very enjoyable.

I've always enjoyed Day's game, but the drama bullshit has really gotten old. He never fucked up my fantasy team, but damn, I'm glad I passed on him this year.
The analysis of the drama queen status of Day in this thread is accurate, in my opinion. It is always something with him. It's tiresome and it's a lot of LOOK AT ME crap that pretty much every single professional athlete goes through. Day acts like he's the first dude who has ever been sick in the history of illness.

"Man, that cold I caught, that was insane, I was sniffling, was using tissues to blow my nose, and had some body aches, nobody has ever gone through that, it's been very tough but I hope to get better. I hope you try to understand the pain I'm going through."

Molinari pulls the "I'm 0-2, not gonna play a meaningless (for him) match on Friday" WD thereby screwing over Jaidee and Wiesberger.

Woodland WD's. Tough 2 days for TFP's team.
They should really have at least the #65 and #66 players in the world on standby in case someone drops out like this to fill in and maybe win some cash - or in the case of the person who would have replaced Day, to possibly even win his group and advance - like they do at the ATP Tour World Finals in tennis.

Final two rounds tomorrow for WGC-Match Play.

Rahm (21) vs. Haas(42)
DJ (1) vs. Tanihara (54)

DJ and Rahm are the only two left with perfect records on the week.
Tanihara won Spieth's group.
Haas started the week losing to Russell Knox 3 & 2. He made it through Group play by beating Kim (64) after six rounds of sudden death playoff.

Rahm wins 3&2

DJ and Tanihara giving back and forth to each other with missed short putts. They are now AS through 15. Interesting as DJ is now in a position where this will be decided on 3 holes he hasn't played all week

Kind of weird, NBC is going with different announcers for both players, but I guess you have to do something with all the people you brought for the week.

Rahm has the advantage on the First green

Rahm completely collapsing. Has missed 3 straight putts to half that were all 75 % or more make putts for these guys the way they have been playing. He is 3 down through 5

Somewhat interesting on 5, as it sure looked like both players were fairly similar distances after their chips. Rahm conceded DJ's, DJ did not concede Rahm, and Rahm missed the putt. Maybe there was a foot of difference between the 2, but from the TV angle they looked very similar,

DJ / Rahm final is pretty awesome.
I had high hopes for this final but man what a dud it is so far.

These guys probably are pretty exhausted at this point. 7th match in 5 days? That's a lot.

Rahm has had a terrible afternoon, but just stepped up on 13. 293 to carry the water, Flag about 5 paces on. . 11+ mph cross wind blowing back into his face, and left into the water. Rahm his one that carried dead over the flagstick landing about 10 feet past

So I think we should have a contest about what drama will be befalling Jason Day on Tuesday, April 4th, two days before the Masters.

I'm betting he has a bent nail and he talks about how he might have finger replacement surgery after the Masters is finished. But, in his fashion, he will gut it out at Augusta.

He has put WDing on the table based on his mother's prognosis. Apparently he is going to travel to Augusta as planned but could leave depending on what the doctors say.

http://www.golfdigest.com/story/gary-woodland-discloses-personal-tragedy-plans-to-play-in-the-masters?mbid=social_facebook

"Last week I withdrew from the WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play to be with my wife, Gabby, as there were complications with our recently announced pregnancy with twins," Woodland said in a statement. "Gabby and I have since had to cope with the heartbreaking loss of one of the babies, and our doctors will be closely monitoring the health of my wife and other baby for the remainder of the pregnancy. We appreciate all of the love and support during this difficult time as we regroup as a family. At this point in time, I plan to play in the Masters next week."

INSIDE THE HOUSE!
NBC playing fast and loose with "live" video. Leaderboard in background shows Fowler at 17 under and they cut to him "live" over birdie putt at -16. Not surprisingly, he makes it.

Lexi on 18 needing birdie to force a playoff. Par 5.

Hits a 5 iron from 210 to 20ish feet. Will have an eagle putt to win.

That's absurd. If that is an illegal mark I can assure you cameras on everyone would result in penalties galore. It would become a ball marking contest. They have to cut out this viewer call in crap.

I thought they had gotten rid of the penalty for signing an incorrect card in these cases where call in viewers or replay is used.

The call in thing has to be eliminated though. It's unfair.

Apparently, the rules of the PGA and LPGA are not aligned on this point and a few others. I say this because the broadcasters made the point that it was only last year that the rule was changed about signing an incorrect scorecard, and I know it's been years since that was the case for the PGA.

The whole thing was absurd. A rushed mark that was a bit sloppy but provided no advantage and was unnoticed until today. The LPGA embarrassed themselves today.

I didn't get to watch, but I've read about it a bit today, and I agree that this is a joke. Isn't there a rules official with every group? If he/she can't make the call right there, and tells the players everything is good that should be the end of it. I can deal with officiating being bad. I think in a lot of ways instant replay has made sports less fun to watch. But if there is one thing in sports that I am absolutely sure of, it is that fans should not be able to affect the outcome of an event, with very few exceptions (i.e. fans in golf being hit with balls, etc.). What a joke.
