Buyout Candidates

So buyout candidate time:

Bogut- fragile, but a great fit, he's still one of the very best rebounders in the league and DRB is the Cs biggest weakness. He also helps rim protection another weakness.- Going to be stiff competition for him, likely HOU/SAS/CLE and more. Including according to Woj GS (yep turns out the 1 year doesn't apply if he's traded again then bought out).

Terrence Jones- bad fit to me, he can score but he's a poor rebounder, we don't need the poor man's Jerebko.

Jared Sullinger?- speculation he might be bought out, traditionally could rebound, can't shoot for shit, knows the system. Big concern will be whether he's really back from injury.

Roy Hibbert- Putting up surprising rim protection numbers this year, not rebounding well though.

Matt Barnes- Nutcase, but rep as a tough wing defender.

Jeff Green- You know what he is.

Jordan Hill- he can rebound some, mostly useless

Deron Williams- not good anymore, also we do not need more PGs

Mike Scott- can't rebound, can shoot, nope.

Not actually a buyout:
Larry Sanders- once upon a time he was a good rim protector and pretty decent rebounder, hasn't played any basketball in years, mental issues, loves to smoke weed.

Bogut on cash is fine but to be clear, my aversion to him is simply because the guy cannot stay on the court. Its a reason he didn't fit in Dallas and its a reason why he is being bought out. I would be shocked if GS took him back but they might if only to keep him from Cleveland which is silly to me. Frankly, if Andrew Bogut ends up being a difference maker in any playoff series, I will be floored. Unless its because his body explodes in the middle of a sequence and his bone-shards cripple some of the star players around him.

To me, the C's might use a Hibbert, a Hill, Sullinger or Jones though I mostly agree with your assessments of them. Sanders is such a huge unknown a this point and 20-odd games after the AS break isn't a great time to re-learn how to play in the NBA. That list is really uninspiring.

I'd take a flyer on Hibbert I guess. Rebounding and block numbers per 36 minutes aren't bad. Can still score a little bit in the paint and is a decent FT shooter. I could see him being more useful than Zeller off the bench in some matchups.

Overall though that's a pretty horrible list.

Mickey would be the first to go. A man without a position who had gotten virtually no playing time. James Young contributed recently and may have a future. Jackson would likely be the next man out.

What kind of shape is Sully in now? I wonder if we could get him back cheaply. For the others on the list, I wouldn't mind Bogut but he is probably going to CLE....
Sanders is sort of a wild card, I liked his game a few years ago and if he could play at 70% of what he was doing when his head was in the game and effective he would be a great addition,.

At this price, I'd probably be fine with any of the buyout big candidates. I won't expect much from them, though.

It won't be Zeller who is cut. They may need his $8M for a draft night trade. Johnson and Jerebko cannot be traded at this point but Zeller can, since he has a second year (even though it's nonguaranteed).

Jones is young and has always put up very good numbers but was unwanted by the most number-savvy team in the league, had to settle for a one year deal for less than 2 mil, and now is being waived by a lottery team where he could still fit in is the first big off the bench.

Demarcus Cousins and Terrence Jones share an agent. There was a little wink wink nudge nudge here so Jones could go get minutes and put up numbers down the stretch somewhere and get the big contract he missed out on last summer. He's not doing the chase the ring thing.

What's the deal with Sullinger? Did he eat himself out of the league already?

Recapping some of above so not quoting

Sullinger has not been looking like a guy who is 100% back from foot surgery. He's not in bad shape, but he has no lift at all (yes even by his standards) and his numbers are way down. The concern with him is he won't be healthy in time to contribute.

Jones I've changed my mind on some, still think a rebounder is the better addition, but if they strike out there, he can bring some bench value in place of Mickey.

Where did you get that idea? I thought he had a self-control issue around shitty food.
Just a guess. Sullinger has literally left millions on the table because he can't get into decent shape. I thnk alcohol is a much more difficult habit to kick than carbohydrates. When he was still in Boston he hired a nutritionist (or his agent did) and he was talking about eating salads--yet his weight went over 300. That's an awful lot of carrots and lettuce.

Looks like both Bogut and Deron Williams to the Cavs.
Cleveland has done a real good job of filling out their bench with minimal assets:

Korver
Derrick Williams
Bogut
Deron Williams

Not bad. No chance anyone in the East takes them out. Going to be incredibly deep once Love comes back.

That's a better bench than they had last year. I still don't like their chances against Golden State but at least they'll have options.

Watched some video of Jones and his 36 point game against Cleveland when NO beat them in January.

Not sure he is the best fit for what we are missing, but could be an interesting guy to have on the second unit for a stretch run this year to see what happens. Liked the block on James at 2:47.

Dude wants a crack at the Dubs. That should be fun.
Yes, both the Cavs and Bogut have some scores to settle. The problem is that unless they put him in bubble wrap until the finals, the odds of him seeing meaningful minutes against Golden State are very low.

Brandon Jennings just released by Knicks. He requested so he could play for playoff team. I'm betting Cavs are pissed they signed DWill

Really? I'd much prefer Williams, especially if (as is case with Cavs) I wanted a playmaker not just a shooter. He's old, but I think Williams is superior in the abstract, and for the Cavs needs.

could/would any team under the cap claim any of these players to get closer to the cap, and thus delay their journey to Cavs/GS/etc?
the buyouts don't go through waivers, but the waived guys? unlikely, few teams have the cap space to claim, and there is no upside, all you do is piss off an agent.

Well since Toronto needs a PG, maybe the C's can negotiate a deal where they buyout IT4 so the Raptors can pick him up while they buyout PJ Tucker whom the C's can then scoop up. Win-win for everyone!

You have a meeting with Bogut and one shot to convince him to come to Boston.

What is your pitch? You will be a starter at C next to Horford at the 4?

They have money under the cap, no? Offer him legit cash as opposed to the minimum. He's got a ring, at this point his career is dwindling, he's probably looking for money.

1. Come to Boston, we have the best hospitals and physicians in the country.
2. Join the Celtics and you'll be able to go home to Australia by June
3. Come play for Boston. The TD Garden bathrooms are clean and we hear JR Smith does a number on the Quicken Loans Arena clubhouse toilets
