Hey, can we throw some love to D3 this year? This coming weekend is looking like a great slate of games around the northeast and the final four in Utica will almost certainly include some compelling match-ups (although we are pretty far away).

Norwich is like the Patriots of D3 but, who knows, they might get knocked out this weekend by NEC.

That D3 bracket is now set.

I think D3 hockey has something of an unfair ranking and bracket system to force two west teams into the semis and make it easier for a team out of the west to win, but it should be good hockey none-the-less.

Predictions:
Round 1:

Norwich over Salem
Oswego over Hamilton
Trinity over Platts.
Hobart over Endicott

Round 2:
Norwich over Oswego
Stevens Pt. over Adrian
Norbert over Augsburg
Trinity over Hobart

Semis:
Norwich over Stevens Pt.
Trinity over Hobart

Finals:
Norwich over Trinity

How many conference surprises are we expecting this year? What do people think will be the cutoff line for pairwise? 13? 14? 12?

Eagles finally woke up this weekend. Beat uvm 7-0 last night, up 3-1 after 18 minutes in period one now in game 2. Were looking out as of Friday afternoon. Now have a chance.

And Ale jinxed them. 3-2 now

Can't speak to the main question but it sounds like BC needs to win Friday to have a shot. Even then, it's probably a 50/50 shot if they lose on Saturday.

Harvard, Union, Cornell and .....Quinnipiac it is in the ECAC semis.

Cornell got thrashed Friday night but won a couple 2-1 games on the weekend.

Harvard v. Union in the final, if I was betting.

There cut line should be 14 but if BC or Quinnipiac wins the conference tournaments that line could be 12 to 13.

Any live stream sources for the HE tournament? The only one I could find Saturday wanted $10 for one game and more than $60 for the full tournament. I managed to find a local radio broadcast I could stream but those guys were so bad I had to turn it off.

Norm Bazin is the best coach in college hockey.

I can't believe what he's done with the Riverhawks, this year the conference title game with the win over Norte Dame and in general over his six seasons. They have adequate talent but significantly less than most Hockey East schools and are looking at a one seed with a win tomorrow night and a two seed with a loss.

After losing home-home series 0-4 and being outscored 20-9 during the regular season, Penn State beats Minnesota 4-3 in double OT to advance to the B1G Championship. Hanging on by the chinny chin chin to gain a berth in the NCAA.

Not knowing too much about it, but how much is 25 year old seniors versus fighting recruiting battles!

You make a good point, and he has not been a great recruiter. The oldest Lowell player is 23 though? The Lowell players are about 1.5 years older than the BU/BC players. The biggest difference is that they lack 18 year old freshmen, who tend to be the blue chippers. The extra year in juniors definitely helps Lowell's players. So, maybe that's part of Bazin's success. I will watch it more going forward.

In my opinion, teams like Lowell are the reason that college hockey develops NHL players so well. Forcing McAvoy, Gadreau, or JFK at age 18 to battle players 22, 23 years old better prepares them for professional hockey than a 16 year old vs. a 18 year old.

Looks like BC needs to win tonight to get a berth unless every other game goes perfect for them.

Just too many losses (14)

My first chance to see Harvard since early in the season, and they look terrific pasting Cornell in the ECAC final. Lots of offensive weapons, excellent poise.

Ryan Donato reminds me a little of Scotty Fusco in ability to cover a lot of ground in the offensive end and get rid of the puck quickly. (That analogy is a little like saying "Mookie Betts reminds me a little of Tris Speaker" in its cross generational absurdity)

Seems a 3 way tie between Prov OSU and BC for 14th. Who gets in?

I heard announcer on NesN say the Air Force win makes Prov safe but at that time they were 12th.

As an aside, I wonder how Big Michigan and little Michigan feel about PSU and OSU be superior to them.

BC is eliminated. They needed to win to get in. Providence is a lock. Ohio State is waiting on the result of the Penn State-Wisconsin game.

They are definitely a team that can win it all. Easily there best team since 1994 Frozen Four team and maybe the 1989 national champions.

That's what I heard but can you explain how Procidence is a lock? What about their ooc record made them better than BC? (Not disputing just curious)

(All 3 have 45 PWR)

Providence beat Denver and tied them...BC had 15 losses compared to 11 for Providence. BC had a tougher OOC schedule but just didn't win many of those games outside of Denver and a bubble team in Wisconsin. 1 or 2 more OOC wins would have put BC in.

Prior to the Hockey East tournament BC went 0-5-2 in their last seven games. That is a killer.

Another OT win for Penn State 2-1 over Wisconsin to win the B1G championship in a very physical game. Freshman goalie Peyton Jones was phenomenal between the pipes with 51 saves. Somehow, Penn State only got off 35 shots.

And I have to add...the same day the Lions dominate in the National Wrestling Championships, winning the title on points before any of their 5 finalists even walked onto the mat for the final round. All 5 won. They consisted of 2 FR, 2 SO, and 1 JR, and combined to defeat 2 reigning 2-time champions. And they didn't even have their #1 ranked 133# in the tournament due to injury. Penn State won 35 of 41 combined matches and earned bonus points -- critical to the team race -- in 21 bouts. The Nittany Lions finished with 146.5 team points. Ohio State was second with 110 and Oklahoma State third with 103. Just simply dominant to win the 6th NC in 7 years.

Harvard gets road game in Providence as a 1 seed. Fantastic

BU gets road game in Fargo but not as a one. Game is on the deuce. Should really be on NHL network though. Lol.

Lowell gets close to a home game in Manchvegas. Deserved for winning HE

I have no particular beef with Providence College -- I grew up in Providence, used to work there for the Big East, and still love the hoops team to death.

But WTF with how the NCAA hockey bracket makers bend over for the Friars all the time? They're probably the last team to have gotten into the whole tournament...yet they get home ice? Reminiscent of getting gifted home ice in 2015 while better Quinnipiac and Harvard teams were sent out west.

They need to sell tickets

Have to go with the local team and all the rich Crimson alums close by in MA/NY/CT

Providence is always going to go to Providence and Dakota is always going to go to Dakota.

BU was out played for two periods but killed off 4 penalties. Got a quick goal to start the 2nd to tie it at 1-1 and then 2 quick BU goals to start the third that quieted the ND crowd. The saucer pass assist on the 3rd goal was absolutely beautiful. BU 3-1 about halfway through the third period. Game delayed to replace a shattered glass panel.
