iTunes podcast feed limit?

I subscribe to both Bill Simmons Podcast and Men in Blazers and had been catching up on some old episodes. After yesterday's upload of new episodes, the feed was trimmed down to the last 100 episodes. Is that an iTunes issue or publisher deciding to only list the last 100 episodes?

Publisher. Usually people move old episodes to a pay structure through their website. iPhone podcast stuff is, for all intents and purposes, an RSS feed of different content that is hosted elsewhere.

thx, so even though all episodes are available on Soundcloud and online for BS and MiB? Is Soundcloud, Stitcher, etc different from iTunes podcast feed?

I have a small podcast and I have the same feed - that I get from my podcast host (Blubrry) - for both iTunes and Stitcher. So if I removed episodes from the source feed, they would be removed from both of those places and anywhere else that takes the same feed. I think Soundcloud (which I don't use) might be a different thing altogether, though I might be wrong.

I'm really bummed out...I've been going back to listen to old episodes of both podcasts, and now the only way is to wait for them to post an archive feed?

Can the podcasts tell which episodes are actually played versus which are downloaded?
Not in general, no.

Yeah I do. Helps keep data charges down and is good for podcasts that I pick and choose episodes to listen to based on topic/guest.
Yeah, and it ensures that you have them to listen to on the plane/subway/wherever connectivity is iffy, or if someone's server is down, or if there's a power outage and the cell service is down, or.... And there's no risk of them suddenly paywalling off back episodes you haven't listened to yet if you have them downloaded.

Unless you're tight on storage it's the way to go.

hm, interesting...I normally stream unless I fly or on a train ride, where I download enough episodes to get me through a trip

kind of tough on storage to dl every episode of BS Podcast (for example) no?

I usually just sync going forward and set it to delete automatically as I listen to things. Audio's not that big, right now I have a couple hundred downloaded episodes total between 20ish podcasts and plenty of free space still.
