Me, too. Smart can play the 1 and substitute in/out defensively with IT late in games more easily than Bradley. And Brown overlaps more with Butler or George.
He might be the best passer on the team and is also the defensive anchor. Years of control is important but I think he's more valuable to the Celtics than Crowder is.

Without the extra 1st rounder this year it's tough to match value on some of these guys because teams don't want to wait for a late 2018 first.*

*Obviously if the Dallas pick falls under the protection it's 2018 anyway, but presumably the expectation is it would still be a better pick than Boston's 2018 first.

Price for Noel continues to go down. Lowe reports that if the pick does not convey in June due to the protection it converts to a second this year and another in 2018.

Figured as much. It made zero sense that Dallas would give up a first rounder.

Not to throw cold water on the hopes of acquiring Butler or George, but Bobby Marks (former front office guy for the Nets) says it's almost impossible to pull off a blockbuster trade this late in the game because the paperwork alone takes more than a couple hours.

I'd be very happy with any Paul George trade that involved only 1 of BKN 17, BKN 18, Brown. I'd be less happy with 2 of those but okay if they had a commitment to extend, unhappy with all 3.

Entirely possible that the framework of a blockbuster deal can be put together earlier and the 2 teams go to the deadline haggling over sweeteners.

Why would a blockbuster deal require more paperwork than a deal involving lesser players/picks?

Myles Turner is 20, and George is pretty clearly not staying in IND after next season, even with the huge financial incentive to do so. Now seems like the perfect moment for Bird to add significant young talent around Turner. Heck, even without the BKN picks, Myles Turner + Jaylen Brown is the start of an intriguing young core...

I also love this NBA Legends showdown where Larry (Pacers) considers stiffing Magic (Lakers) by shipping Paul to his Celtics pal (Ainge).
Not at you but this narrative makes no sense. Bird is not stupid and he is notoriously tight fisted. He will make the best deal possible for Indiana. The fact is that if they want to, the Cs can give the Pacers more than the Lakers.

My assumption is that larger trades have more moving pieces (more salary, more players, etc.) and are thus more complicated to arrange in a short time window.

Paul George is coming to Boston for this year's Nets pick and Bradley. Not yet confirmed but per a friend with some legitimate inside knowledge (which cannot be disclosed...sorry)

What's your level of reticence on a PG deal given that he can head to the Lakers or Clippers after next year? if he were to re-sign, any sense there could be longer term issues with the leg he snapped?

At the end of the day the price has to be higher than that. Maybe Guershon or more picks involved. But if those are the general parameters that would be a home run.

That trade doesn't work since the salaries are $10 million off
That's probably just the top line of the deal, more likely headed to IND ... which is why there's the Windhorst treat about IND trying to make secondary pieces
