It's going to be so hard to know what to make of them come tournament time. I assume they will get the number one overall seed and even the stats adjusted for competition find them the best team in the country.

But an interesting thought experiment, and one that I think will be relevant, what would their record be in the ACC?

Gonzaga has the 116th ranked Strength of Schedule. That's awful. They are too well-coached to be compared to Witchita State a few years back when KY beat them in the second round to end their undefeated season, but I still believe that Gonzaga will go into the tournament untested and this will hurt them. Remember last year how even a mediocre Syracuse team ended up in the Final Four? That happens because in the ACC you get better by playing really, really good teams every single game.

Edit - My best guess? They still make the tournament in the ACC but that's all I'm comfortable saying. It's just too hard to tell what type of team they are playing the 116th best schedule.
How many teams in the acc are going to the tournament this year? A very deep acc. I can't wait until the acc tournament. You can barely count anyone out.

I cant argue with the SoS but I would suggest you watch Gonzaga play this year. In years past they have been 5 deep with a shallow bench and reliant on a single player to carry them (Olynyk, Morrison, Wiltjer) whereas this year they have 7 guys who could (and have) carry the team when needed. This is not a one trick pony unlike years past.

I'd love to see Gonzaga move to a bigger conference but the only one that they might fit in is the Big East due to a lack of a football program.

Untested seems like any easy dismissal if you didnt watch them beat Iowa St, Arizona or Florida; which, FWIW, were their three closest games of the year with wins by 2, 7 and 5 points respectively. Those are also their only three single digit point differences this season (which includes wins at BYU and St. Mary's which are both extremely tough places to play)

There's no question they have beaten three tournament teams on a neutral court in late November/early December. I'm not sure if that experience will carry over to March or not.

Seriously Shaka Smart is so unbelievably terrible. Just shut the program down for the season already.

Players clearly hate him, he clearly has no idea what he's doing.

Gonzaga absolutely laid an asskicking on U of San Diego tonight ... 96-38 was the final score but Gonzaga pulled their starters about halfway through the second

Only a home game versus BYU stands between Gonzaga and a perfect regular season.

Northwestern is the only P5 school never to of made the tournament, right? Have to wonder if the pressure is going to get to them. They better beat Indiana.

BYU at home is...not a good loss. I just checked RPI and they are 72nd even after beating Gonzaga. Really hard to know what to make of the Zags this year with them essentially playing in an entirely different division.

When you shoot less than 20% from beyond the arc and 55% from the FT line when the team average is 38% and 73% respectively you deserve to lose.

BYU played a hell of a game last night and Few made some shitty decisions (like not pressuring BYU in the last 5 minutes when BYU was running the clock down)

Hopefully this is the loss that motivates the team during the tournament

Well, they didn't beat Indiana but they did beat Michigan. Should be enough to get them into the tournament.

They won and it was glorious. A full-court inbounds pass with 1.7 sec left to Derek Pardon who laid it in with 0.3 sec left on the clock to beat Michigan 67-65.

My son was at the game screaming his fool head off I'm sure. My wife and I were at home drinking heavily, convinced that NU was going to find yet another way to avoid the tournament. Now I think they're a lock.

Shout out to my alma mater Winthrop University, who are poised to make their first NCAA tournament appearance since 2010. This is the best team they've had since Gregg Marshall left to coach Wichita St. in 2008. They have a shooter who can catch fire at any point in Big South player of the year Keon Johnson, a do-everything second banana in Xavier Cooks, and solid role players peppered throughout the roster. They'll probably get their clock cleaned in the NCAAs but I give them a puncher's chance depending on their draw. They can shoot the ball very well so if they're lights out and their opponent goes cold, who knows.

Milwaukee finished the regular season 8-23, losing their last 9 games. Entered the Horizon League Championship tournament as the 10 seed. 3 wins in a row and Milwaukee will be playing Northern Kentucky on Tuesday night for a chance to win the conference tournament and an automatic bid. The whole tournament as been crazy has the semifinals included the 4 (Northern Kentucky), 6 (UIC), 9 (Youngstown St) and 10 seed.

Great game at the TU center for the MAAC championship. I don't think that either team missed a FT in the last 8 minutes of game play. In OT, Iona got a stop when Siena couldn't . In reality it was a 4 point win. the half court buzzer beater brought it to 1, either delighting or enraging people watching the game for "entertainment purposes only".

And ESPN Radio has been dogging conference tourneys this morning. You know, it devalues the regular season and all that, but their main point was it was a money grab by the conferences. And the irony of ESPN complaining about something being a money grab struck me as hilarious.

As did the quick correction Greenbueg had to utter after he said the Ivy League doesn't have a tourney.

Marquis Wright, the Siena PG, ran the clock down too far on Siena's last real possession down 2. I was hoping for double OT. That game was a pleasure to watch.

Today's loss in the first round of the ACC tournament could be the one that keeps Syracuse out of the NCAA field. They do have three big wins over highly-ranked teams; but, in my opinion, they really needed to win one game in the ACC tournament to solidify a spot. They still might get lucky.

I'd be completely cool if they fired Shaka Smart at halftime.

Worst Longhorn team of any sport I've ever witnessed, I believe.

I'm pretty surprised by his failure. Tons of talent in Texas so 10-21 is simply unacceptable.

If you watch them play, it's clear a) the players despise playing for him, b) he has favorites that play that aren't helping the team succeed and c) is over his head at in-game adjustments.

Him never winning a league title at VCU makes sense to me now.

Princeton won the Ivy League for the 15th straight year but this year for the first time they have a conference tourney.

Princeton has never led but just tied Penn with 5 seconds left (59-59) to send it to OT.

Epic Penn choke job -- led all game and missed front end of a one-and-one with 12 seconds to go...Princeton promptly drove the floor and tied it up.

Pac12 got screwed again with Cal being left out and UCLA and Oregon as 3 seeds
The PAC12 had a record seven teams make the tournament last year (so not sure how they were screwed "again"). One of those teams managed to make it out of the first round.

I went to Univ. of Richmond, so I ended up following VCU since Richmond-VCU has become a fun rivalry. I really liked Shaka at VCU: he recruited athletic players, played a fun style of ball, and seemed to be an interesting guy.

What happened?
