Does Sacramento have their own pick this year? If they go tankapalooza and get someone really good, that's part of this trade too right? The ability to tank without Cousins should be easier.
It's been discussed above. If it's top 10 it goes to the Kings. Otherwise it's a 2nd rounder that goes to some other team other than the Bulls. Orlando, I think. So the Bulls are kinda fucked.

That is an interesting dynamic in all of this. If George and Butler get traded, can they still get the DPE and supermax? Is there any incentive for them to stay on the team they were traded to?

Thanks. So in a way by trading Cousins, they get another top 10 pick + whatever they get from NO

In addition to this if they keep their own pick. Ie it's top ten. Then the sixers have swap rights. Which means super tanking isn't even likely rewarded and could really suck.

Not quite.

If SAC ends up with a top 10 pick and pick is worse than PHI's pick, SAC keeps its pick
If SAC ends up with a top 10 pick and pick is better than PHI's pick, PHI and SAC swap picks
If SAC ends up with a pick below 10, the pick goes to CHI

CHI gets SAC's 2nd round pick if SAC ends up with a top 10 pick.

It's all coming up Kings:

I don't like Hield but I'm no Jerry West, I'm just a dude. You stated what I want to know though. I want to see these other "lesser" packages. Because that "lesser" may be very dependent on what you think of Hield.

That is an awful awful trade by SAC.
Truly. It's not easy to revise a D paper and get an F, but Vlade has done it.

So bottom line, the Celts didn't want him
That must be the read -- regardless of Ainge's recognition that the team needs rebounding, rim protection and bigs who can shoot the 3, the Boston Celtics aren't interested in the only big on the market who can do all these things.

This cat must be the absolute worst to deal with.
Must be. I suppose we should be waiting for the casualty report from the duel at dawn on Bourbon Street between Cousins and Davis.

This is crazy. I'm going to have to draw a flow chart. So the best Sacto can do is get the number 2 pick assuming Phi gets one (that's their best case), their worst case is outside of top ten or no pick. So they are looking at most likely a 6-10

How fucking stupid is this team?
They drafted Stauskas, then a year later packaged him with a likely lottery-pick, in order to clear the cap room necessary to sign Wes Matthews, and then failed to sign Wes Matthews.

They're really really stupid.

Someone said if Sacramento finishes in the bottom 6, that 2nd round pick goes to Orlando and Chicago gets nothing.

Don't get mad. It should give you hope. I see a big time front office job in your future

They meant last 5 picks of the 2nd (55-60), if it's there it goes to ORL who they owe a top 55 protected pick that expires if not conveyed, if not it goes to Chicago.

With it becoming clearer how deeply they love Buddy, the equivalent Celtics package is at least two and maybe all three Nets assets plus salary fodder. If true that he'd be a serious threat not to sign...I dunno, once upon a time in the very recent past I assumed this exact guy was Ainge's target but—org issues or not—he is a risk. I've figured for years that there's even more going on behind the scenes with DC dating back to college, and I'm guessing IT told Brad and Danny a few stories.

The hope now is Boogie tanks this franchise too (Demps is himself pretty terrible) and forces AD to want out into Danny's waiting arms. Buddy Hield, lol.

Well at least the Kings are so good with drafting and developing top 10 picks:
2015- took WCS 6 over: Mudiay, Turner, Winslow
2014- took STAUSKAS? 8 over, Payton, Saric, LaVine
2013- took McLemore 8 over kCP, McCollum.
2012- took Thomas Robinson 5 over Lillard, Barnes, Drummond
2011- Traded down for 7 to 10 (getting John Salmons for Beno Udrih in the process) took Jimmer over Klay, both Morisses and Kawhi)
2010- BOOGIE at 5
2009- took Tyreke 4 over Rubio, Curry, Derozan

Huh? They view Hield as a "top 5 pick this year". They are also getting a late lottery pick at best. And their view of Hield, is probably more about trying to save some face then actually thinking he is a top 5 pick - especially considering he was the # 6 pick in a weaker draft and hasn't proven himself to really be anything more than the # 6 pick.

The equivalent is nowhere near what you stated. Would anyome trade the BRK pick for a Hield and # 14 pick

FWIW, we are all assuming it is late lottery. It is top 3 protected though. NO is 2 1/2 games out of the playoffs and 2 1/2 games away from being the 4th worst team in the NBA.

It doesn't matter, the Celtics have more to offer so the ask is inevitably higher. Jaylen + BK17 (not protectable), and if Buddy was simply their target then who knows what else.

As a Bruins fan this trade looks really familiar. Shit front office decides to do something with no regard for the best way to do it and ends up with a crap deal without even bothering to look around.

Would be funny if NO missed the playoffs, got a lucky bounce of the balls and a top 3 pick. It'd almost be a smart idea to intentionally tank if they thought the Nets could pass them. Cousins/Davis isn't winning anything this year, but add a top 3 pick to the core?

Sure, but they just got a top 15-20 player in the league for nothing and one of the teams ahead of them in the playoff race just traded them that top 20 player for nothing. It could be a top 10 pick, but just barely, and you don't even have the upside of a lucky bounce since it's protected.

Nobody is catching the Nets, they have half the wins of the next closest team and an 8.5 game lead. Also I don't know how NO could even tank.

Woke up to this..Ainge couldn't have matched or exceeded this? Feel this is a year to GFIN in general, but at the price Boogie left for I have a hard time believing that they had no interest. Deal moved fast. Hope that PG or Butler is in play to bypass this chance.

Curious for the leaks on where Celts were on this....sure seems like this was one they could (should?) have had.

Well then. Glad I went to bed early. So the rumors the the Celtics wanted nothing to do with Cousins appear to be true. And Bucher said that the Kings balked at a Suns offer because they weren't interested in Brandon Knight, but presumably any Suns offer would've included their 2017 pick and if Vlade loves Buddy, I'd think the potential to draft Malik Monk would've been more attractive. But Sactown, I guess. They are going to be bad for a while so chalk another one up for Philly.

Another potential ramification is that as things stand now, the Kings are primed to give the Nets some more competition for the bottom next year.

Edit- Forgot that Cousin's agent said he wouldn't be signing an extension. Suns' offer probably wouldn't have included their pick for a rental.

What are chances Boogie wants to sign in LA and be a movie star this offseason?

That may be why teams aren't trading for him. He knew all along he wasn't getting the max so he can pretty much pick his choice of teams when he's a FA. Anyone trading for him is getting a rental.
This trade is very weird news to wake up to. This quote makes the most sense, but still: he's a rental through 2017-2018 right? That's not a bad rental to have, especially figuring the right team will have a leg up on resigning him. I wonder if part of this is Sacramento overvalued Hield and New Orleans assets and undervalued whatever Boston/others would've offered? Though sounds like Boston wasn't even in the conversation. I wonder too if the fact that the Celtics have been on a run disinclined them from bidding. If they were 4-6 over their last ten games would they have been more apt to roll the dice? Or is it a chemistry thing? I'm curious what Brad thinks of Cousins, and whether he might have flexed a little muscle (he's got to have a little by now) and said, "Danny, think twice." Seems weird that a guy so talented could have been traded essentially for a bag of balls.

Extremely disappointing that the Celtics chose not to get involved, as the final price ended up being so low that it would,'t have even taken them out of the game for another big deal or crippled them if Boogie turned out to be a disaster.

I think you have to consider three factors.

1) if boogie can walk, then everything you are giving up is just a chance to convince him to stay, right? Maybe with Davis New Orleans has a better chance, but not sure what the Celtics could do. Yeah it's a better situation, but he would also get the ball less, etc.

2) seems that vlade might think Hield is the best player from the 2016 draft. So while thinking of the many Celtics assets you'd rather have than Hield and the New Orleans pick, Vlade may not have agreed.

3) bearing in mind 1 and 2 how much are you willing to give up for the improvement this year?

Part of me thinks Ainge is hip-deep in wrangling another deal, maybe close to completing it, and the assets that Sacramento would want are tied up. There's just gotta be another shoe to drop here. Has to be more to it than this.

Ainge has said recently that he's not interested in swapping assets for rentals or bandaids. Without the DPE available, and therefore a financial advantage in retaining Cousins, Ainge might have considered 110 guaranteed games of Boogie an insufficient return in exchange for eight controlled rookie scale seasons of two high lottery picks.

Not sure if this was mentioned, but the Kings get their 2017 1st rounder back from Chicago if it's a top-10 pick; they currently have the league's 11th-worst record. And it's not like the obligation to send a pick to Chicago rolls forward to next year; it goes away. So the Kings are effectively getting a lottery pick in addition to Hield and NO's mid-teens pick.

This explains why the Kings only wanted picks and prospects -- not established players. Unless Danny was going to include one of the Brooklyn picks, he didn't have the assets to make a deal.

I'm guessing DA wouldn't give up either BRK pick for a rental. If they are going to get him long-term, they're going to have to sign him over next summer. Why give up assets for that? Plus, integrating DC into the scheme this year was not going to be easy.

A couple of quotes from some guy named Howard Beck:

"This was a definite culture move," a person with insight into the trade said. "Enough was enough."

(quoting Grant Napaer, TV voice of Kings, tweet): And here's maybe the most important thing. Most of Cousin's teammates the past 7 years hated playing with him! That is a fact!

The truth is Kings executives and coaches were ready to dump Cousins years ago, but their pleas were repeatedly squashed by owner Vivek Ranadive, who remained irrationally wedded to the tempestuous center.

Then came a true moment of clarity.
On Feb. 8, with Cousins serving his suspension, the Kings walloped the
Boston Celtics, 108-92. They played a fluid, free-flowing game that night. A selfless game, with 24 assists and five Kings scoring in double figures. That's the kind of game the Kings envision, with prospects like Ben McLemore and Malachi Richardson assuming greater roles and springy young big man Willie Cauley-Stein taking over at center.
