2016-17 Boston College Basketball: Maybe They're Not So Embarrassing After All

I was at the Stony Brook game....the announced attendance was 2K...and bad as that is, there weren't half of that number there.

The box office only sells walk up tickets for two sections (one in the benches, one in the chairs); where the hell are all the other seats going? No way on earth they have that kind of season ticket sale.

The only good side is that Conte isn't in any way dated that I can see- only thing I would perhaps do is get rid of the benches and thereby cut the capacity a little. Those are good seats if they are chairs. Maybe make the seating on the floor more vip-ish too?

I did get an email offering free floor seats for any non-conference game until Christmas so they're hurting pretty good. And I'm not some sort of big donor. Small amount every year to a specific group I didn't think was part of the Flynn Fund.

Yeah this is where we need a win to show progress. Not happy.
Jerome Robinson is about to re-enact Olivier Hanlan's career with BC. Good player who has zero help. Bowman is the only guy who has a chance to be any kind of consistent help. I'm convinced AJ Turner will always be an enigma.

Really not good. Hard to figure out what's going on right now. They're young but losing games they absolutely shouldn't be losing.
Hard to figure out? These kids are terrible. Jerome Robinson is the only kid with any discernible talent. The front court is a joke and the rest of the team is filled with ACC wannabes or talentless 5th year transfers. This program has somehow managed to be a bigger shitshow than the Dazaster.

Would any reasonably decent basketball player really want to go to BC? The program going back over the last 50 years has had roughly 4 runs of really high end play. The days of Terry Driscoll with Bob Cousy as coach in the 60s, John Bagley, Michael Adams ,ET al in the early mid 80s, Billy Curley and group in the 90s and the Jarred Dudley group about 10 years ago. These "runs" lasted roughly 2 years on average and then the program fell back. For the most part, the ceiling has been an NIT caliber program.

The administration has never fully backed it, recruiting has been a challenge as for many years they had virtually no recruiting base in their back yard. Two programs with better pedigrees and a stronger commitment from their administrations are within 90 minutes of it. I have always said the only reason they even have basketball is because they need it to be part of the ACC. If they could play only football in a P5 conference I am convinced they would do that and further demphasize it and they would be playing in the MAAC.

When they are competitive it's a great take. But they haven't been relevant since Al was there and I can't see anyone who is really an ACC caliber player even remotely ever consider BC. Hell, not only are PC and UConn better destinations most BE programs are better destinations. They are playing in the ACC with well, MAAC talent. The future is very dim for basketball. And I'm not even a big basketball fan.

They should ashamed of themselves for allowing this athletic program to regress as much as it has. But I think they don't give a shit. If they did moves would have been made last year.

How long befjre the ACC has talks of kicking BC out because it is elically bad right now?
Won't happen. That's why as bad as it is with with Football they won two conference games this year and been in a bowl 3 out of 4 years and important for considerations like this.

Don't get me wrong. There are some real problems but given their success in other non-revenue sports (i.e., Men's and Women's soccer, one win away from Omaha) the case just isn't there.

It's all coaching. VA hires Tony Bennett, we hire Onahue. BC alum Pearl is available, Bates bends over for Eddie Fogler.

Soon as an athletic department that takes pride in itself shows up, we'll get a solid coach, and with that coach kids will want to be in the ACC and this area. Same with football. I think real football players look at the Amos Alonzo Stagg offense that Sgt Slaughter is running and know you can't win with it. The donation numbers are atrocious and worse, the coaches of the non revenue programs are increasingly furious that they're being associated with Bates' incompetence. There are changes coming, not to be #1 in both sports, but they're coming. Doesn't mean they will get hires correct, but there's a mindset shift coming.

I can't wait for this to show up as a "bad" loss when Auburn is on the bubble in March. But great win. I just can't reconcile playing like shit against Hartford and then taking out a good Auburn team a few days later. Yeah, youth blah blah blah

Frosh PG Ty Graves requested his release and it was granted. Was one of the highly touted recruits but seemed to have been beaten out by fellow frosh Bowman.

Having just watched this game, I like Bowman. Having him and Robinson are decent enough building blocks. No idea what they build but they have blocks. Can't say one of them is Jimmy C.

Christian and his staff are doing a remarkable job developing Bowman. He is so much better than he as 2 months ago. He will play in the NBA and it is just going to be a question of when ,

Honestly give Christian a lot of credit overall for keeping the team together and their heads in the game. They are what we hoped the would be a young developing team.

Really nice to get that stupid streak off their back, They are not going to win a ton of games in conference, but they are going to scare teams a good bit. They are explosive, if thin.

Mike ... I seem to recall that Christian has a rep for developing guards. I will look for the article but with Robinson and Bowman so far so good.

Nice core with Pops, Turner, JRob and Bowman.

I've been heavily-critical of Christian, and some of the losses this year will be forever unforgivable, but they're starting to really show something. Great win today. Just need someone in the frontcourt to emerge (and not sure that guy is on the roster).

Tava was very impressive passing the ball today and I think Turner is becoming a very nice player. I agree there's no one at the level of Robinson and Bowman but I think Pops and Turner have a ton of potential.

Really funny to imagine BC has a strong backcourt made up of to NC guys.

Yeah, great win. I'll crap all over Bates and Daz but Christian, just needs Bowman to stay a year or two and get a big man...

To be clear, I mean low post player. Tava had a nice game for sure but I'm looking for a 6'9+ impact big, particularly on the defensive end. Popovic looks like he'll be serviceable out there for 4 years. Would like to see another more "bouncy" frontcourt player next to him.

I agree that our 1-2-3 of Bowman/Robinson/Turner is quite good. Hope they can keep it up and win 6-8 ACC games this year.

n the week following Boston College’s stunning upset of N.C. State – the Eagles’ first ACC win in football or men’s basketball since the 2015 ACC tournament – normality was quickly restored when Boston College lost by a mere 45 to Louisville, which dropped the Eagles to 1-5 in the ACC.

With another long season looming in basketball, with potentially only Georgia Tech and Rutgers worse among Power 5 teams, it’s time for the ACC to start asking some difficult questions about Boston College. Only a decade after BC joined the ACC, something’s gone horribly wrong. And there’s every reason to believe it’s not going to get any better soon.

Boston College was never a perfect fit for the ACC outside of academics, even if it did extend John Swofford’s fabled footprint into New England, but at least when it joined the football and basketball programs were both competitive and relevant, more than up to ACC standards. The football program played in back-to-back ACC title games. The basketball team had a winning ACC record in four of its first six seasons in the league, playing for the title in 2006. Now they’re both completely overwhelmed, an anchor on the rest of the conference’s ambitions.

So...is Northeastern the best team in New England this year?

Apparently I went to the wrong Huskies school for 2017. :(

BC follows up a terrible first half against Duke with a strong second half. Cut a 25 point deficit down to 7 and had chances to cut even closer.

Duke could not keep Bowman away from the basket.

Yeah Bowman is legit.

This will be a good loss if they can win against NCST this week at home.

Bowman and Robinson are getting all the press but AJ Turner's emergence is huge for this program. We really are a decent big away from contending for postseason play next year. Those 3 guys are legit.

Without a doubt. Guy is an excellent all around player. I think folks forget that he was a legit top 150 recruit.
