Roberts let this game get out of hand but I think he was waving hte white flag once they only got 2 last inning anyways.

I don't know why everyone says the Dodger bullpen is good. they had NO ONE in front of Jansen for awhile. Blanton, Baez, Stripling have all laid turds in tihs series now

Really tough call on Kershaw, in my opinion.
Pitch him today on short rest, and you're basically pushing in all your chips. Lose this game, and you're pretty much done. Win the game, and you go to Chicago up 3-2, with Kershaw available out of the pen in Game 7.
Don't pitch him today, and winning this one is a real long shot, especially against a lefty. Obviously, it's not a concession, but it does mean that the Dodgers don't feel uncomfortable going back to Chicago down 3-2, but with Kershaw and Hill on full rest.

I'm really not sure which way I'd go.

I think it's definitely the right call to use CK in game 6. Otherwise it would be 4 times pitching in 10 days. Seems like that would be pushing it too far.

I wonder if any part of the decision fell on Clayton. Remember in game 5 at Washington Kersh told Roberts I'm ready in the 9th if you need me. Roberts had no intentions of using him that game. They have to be worried about overuse and his future he's only 28. He did have a serious back injury already this year. If injury is no concern the play IMO would be to use him today and perhaps out of the pen in Game 7. Kershaw's short rest #s are excellent he had a 1.89 ERA in 3 playoff starts before Game 5 in Washington.

Game 5 winners are a huge favorite to win the series, and without Kershaw the pitching matchup heavily favors the Cubs today, and then of course the Cubs go home for two. In the NBA game 5 winners win the series 82% of the time, I couldn't find the MLB #s but I would guess around 80% as well.

The thinking is probably that if they throw Kershaw in Game 5 on short rest against Lester, he's no guarantee to win anyway, and if they lose, then they're really in trouble going back to Chicago down 3-2 and with Kershaw burned.

The way they're doing it, even if they lose Game 5 they still have Kershaw and in Game 6 and (if necessary) 7, they'd have the two matchups that resulted in shutout victories for them in Games 2 and 3.

What happened to Karros? Had a good year with the Cubs, then flamed out a year later with the A's. Just non-steroid aging or was there an injury (Wikipedia doesn't mention one)?

In terms of his career, when he reached Oakland at age 36, he discovered there was no there there

I think they want him there to freak out Lester.
Smoltz thinks they are idiots for doing it.
