It sounds like a typical little bit of knowledge being a dangerous thing situation. In Chamblee's all-knowing mind, fourball is all about ball striking. Armed with that unshakable truth, it's easy for him to use stats to criticize DL3. Of course, there's no reason to assume the truth of the premise other than Chamblee's ipse dixit. It may be that Davis has decades of statistics that show no meaningful correlation between ball-striking stats and fourball victories. It's even possible that he has other data showing a significant correlation between fourball success and some other stat, say strokes gained putting. Or maybe he doesn't. But we can safely assume that if Brandel had numbers showing that the team with the better average ball-striking stats wins at a high rate, he would've let us know about them.
Well yeah, that was kind of my point. He's talking out of his ass to try to sound smarter than the average bear, as he generally likes to do. Much like what got him into the argument with Duval.

First off I should have put that in quotes to make it clear that is what Chamblee was stating. I also should have pointed out that he literally stated that any other random two players picked from the team would have been a better pairing. I just thought that was interesting based on the information that has been out there regarding DLIII using advanced statistics to pick the teams.
Obviously there is some disconnect between Chamblee's use of statistics and DLIII's.

Stands were full before the gates opened. We sprinted once gates opened and couldn't get in the bleachers. Front row where the players walk up to the tee from the range.

The PGA app is live broadcasting the first tee and is currently panning the stands. Are you wearing any identifiable garb?
Not in the stands, on the railing. Basically facing the players when they feel off. Blue USA quarter zip red shorts and white hat, handsome face.

How foggy is it there? Can you see all the way down the fairway?
It's hard to tell on TV.

US hasn't won the first match in a Ryder Cup since 94 but Spieth sinks a put to get them up 1 after 2.

In match 3, ZJ with a little passionate swipe of the tee after ripping down the middle it on the 1st. Kaymer hit his in the rough - not sure where. This match seems huge to me. ZJ and Jimmy Walker are sort of afterthoughts on this team. if they can take down two of Europe's big dogs, it would be unexpected and really exciting.

Westwood/Pieters doesn't make one shake in their boots, but I don't think anything can be taken for granted.

That said, I'm taking Spieth and Reed for granted. That is a legitimately good team.
I was obviously being a little facetious... but upon seeing pairings, #1 and #4 looked solidly US while #2/#3 were pretty solidly Euros. On paper.

I don't know if I'd say #1 was solidly US - yes, Spieth/Reed is a great team, but Stenson and Rose are just as formidable. So far, US leads, but I had this one as a toss up. Hope I'm wrong. Of course, I also had ZJ and Walker actually putting well.

Normally I'd agree... But Stenson a little hobbled made it move to "solidly" in my view. Plus, Reed lives for this crap. Obviously, "solidly" was a strong word when talking about going against Rose/Stenson.
