The line about how much he needed to see what the post-game narrative would be was great

Does anyone know if any other team kicked kick-offs short to take advantage of the new 25 yard line rule?

seems to me that once again Belichick is ahead of the curve

I love that Bill chose two of those plays

That is being discussed in the thread about the new kickoff rule. Short answer is that yes some did but the Pats did it more and better.

And another one is up.

http://www.patriots.com/video/2016/10/26/belichick-breakdown-top-plays-patriots-steelers

This was maybe my favorite one of the season. 6 minutes, a bunch of plays. Looking at the two long plays by Gronk really showcase how amazing Brady and Gronk are. The read Brady makes on the safety on the long throw is incredible - how on earth he knows that he's going to peel off, I don't know. Then the last play they show, Gronk just abuses a safety with a great route. He's carrying about 60+ pounds on the guy, I'd imagine, but it just doesn't matter as he loses him and then runs away.

Not sure where else to put this, but it seems apropos.

Last night's (10/26) episode of PTI featured Steve Young on their 5 Good Minutes segment. Most of it was spent fellating the Patriots. Young actually had a semi-coherent thesis, namely that Belichick's insistence that players put in the time to learn and digest the Patriots' complex playbook represents a distinct competitive advantage over the rest of the NFL. In contrast, other teams have a much more restricted playbook because the current CBA limits the amount of prep and practice time players are required to put in. Young likened it to the NFL returning to a more college-like situation in terms of the amount of familiarity players get with a particular system. However, the Patriots "push back" against this as much as they can through Belichick and through a corporate-culture enforcement process. As evidence for this, Young offered an anecdote from Randy Moss, where he said one of his early experiences with New England was Brady upbraiding him publicaly for not knowing the playbook, and letting him know that was unacceptable.

Hadn't heard that particular one floated before, so it interested me.

(BTW, the only irritating part of the segment occurs very early on where Young first floats his thesis and Kornheiser immediately jumps on the idea that the Patriots are somehow cheating again to gain this competitive advantage, forcing Young to clarify that what they are doing is essentially just working harder and smarter. I know Kornheiser is smarter than this and was just looking for something sexy, but the speed with which he was ready to call out the mob and light the torches was frightening)

On his podcast yesterday he took the NFL to task for deflategate and praised Sally Jenkins to no end. So he's not all in on cheatriots stuff. But he has mentioned how he doesn't like BB the man.

I saw it as well. As soon as Tony asked that question, they also immediately had a graphic up, the essence of which was, "patriots preparation within the rules?" As you alluded to, Young quickly, and pretty vehemently, clarified that he admired what the Patriots do, and was not suggesting anything against the CBA was going on. I really don't get too worked up over this stuff anymore, not like during the height of deflate-gate. But this type of idiot, hot-take trolling will never totally stop exasperating me I guess. Will always be at least some part of the narrative with the BB/TB era Pats, unfortunately. A related question: I thought the new CBA restrictions were mainly about on field practice/ limits to practing in pads. Is there anything in there regarding not being able to expect/demand that players study the playbook at home/in their off hours? That's essentially what Young was alluding to in his praise of their culture.

Didn't Ochocinco have one recently too talking about the culture and how it throw him off?

Something about first day back film study in the new season (Ocho's first) and there is Bill putting up the Jets playoff loss from the year before, and he just lights into Brady asking him all kinds of questions, pointing out mistakes. Ocho didn't understand what was going on as you aren't supposed to go after the QB like that in his experience.

I think someone posted it in a thread somewhere here. Maybe even this one.

Well Sally writes for The Post so Tony's support for her is not unexpected. He's still a Post man at heart. And he has complained multiple times on his radio show about how BB treated him when he was doing MNF and they would have their pre-game production sit downs. I'm sure BB treated them the same way he does press conferences.

In pursuit of this, what did you think of the discussion with Freeman about Wilbon's "heads will roll" prediction w.r.t. l'Affaire Brown? They specifically went to the issue of it being evidence of preferential treatment for favored owners, but I'm still having a hard time seeing how other owners ever force NFL HQ to do anything about this. Aren't the favored owners the ones with the most clout?

I suppose it would be enjoyable watching some group of owners decide they've had enough of Goodell's incompetence/favoritism, and then rise up and try to throw him out. But it's kind of like watching the Gang of Four show trials in China from afar--it's amusing to see some bad people get their comeuppance, but you just know they're going to get replaced with some other bad people.

I just thought it was naive. It's been going on for a while and Goodell rides the winds of the owners. They've missed this type of favoritism before in interest of the story. Wilbon was all about punishing Belichick for deflategate.

What I thought while listening was that this may pull other owners closer to Kraft and resolidify his power base.

This may cost Mara, but the only real damage to Goodell comes from owners. They'll make a token tone deaf attempt to make it go away.

Must admit, got a little emotional watching Thuney and Andrews get to the secondary & throw two nasty blocks on one of the replays.

But by cutting out the "we're on to," and going just with "Seattle", he's increased his efficiency by like 50%.

Zolak mentioned did they call the TD pass to Edelman the David Patten play. That's what I thought of when I saw it, although it was different. Patten leaped for the ball but came down in the corner of the EZ, while Julian went out the side.

I had to watch the INT return a few times to see why the ref was lying down in the middle of the field. He got barely pushed by one of the Broncos lineman. At about 2:10 you can see it.

I did the same thing - and actually, I replayed the first running play and the Mingo punt coverage several times, too

"Let's break down the important plays from the Pats 41-3 win over the Jets."

"Okay, here's when the schedule was released."

"Thanks Bill, see you next week."

Kind of a letdown after the Broncos one, but hey, it's ALWAYS great to get to watch!

I liked Bill's response to the "White missed one earlier" comment, where he basically smacked Socci and said White has made a lot of plays this year without acknowledging the drop at all.

I've been looking both yesterday and today - only thing I can guess is that they're basically on vacation this week and he'll film it next week when everyone's back in the office and such.

I mostly want to hear him say, in his subtle and often understated way, exactly what he thinks of that goddamn block by Floyd.

I'm hoping there will be one for the Fins. Maybe, as Instaface says, it's just late (IIRC, it was during the bye week, too), or maybe they stop making them when the regular season ends. Does anyone know for sure?

They are definitely not on vacation this week, but possibly saving it until next week.

It is hard to know for sure, since they lost their regular season finale in both 2014 and 2015. You have to go back to 2013 for their last regular season finale win. I tried parsing through the archives of the breakdowns on patriots dot com, but couldn't figure out if/when they posted that breakdown.

Possibly saving it in case they face Miami again next week? No reason to provide patriots perspective or analysis no matter how obvious.
