So, being in a next man up mindset...

Roster-wise, they probably do now add a QB right away. To free up a slot, perhaps they IR Brissett?

Dumping Derby another possibility, or IR'ing Rowe.

Let's say I could guarantee you a win in week 4 against Rex, but part of the deal is Peyton signs a one-week contract so you have to cheer for Manning in a Patriots uniform for a week. Do you do it, or take your chances on a Yates/Renfree pupu platter and hope for the best? I think I bite my lip and try to stomach some Manning noodles in Foxboro. (assuming Jimmy isn't ready to go, of course)

edit: dammit meant to post this in the other thread

I think their best option is to find out how much running/basketball Flutie has been doing. I'm not sure if I am serious or not. But if anyone could just jump in and be effective it would be him. A drop-kick punt mixed in, some scrambling. It could be fun.

In a cocaine heartbeat; you play the best players to give you a chance to win. Consider: The win is assured as part of this deal so it meets the ideal criterion. Furthermore, imagine the massive ambivalence mouthbreathers would have, and the ultimate fuck you to Goodell? What's not to like there? I personally never had an issue with Manning as a player so much as it was Nantzgasms over him in broadcasts.

I mean, its not great but the HOF quarterback is coming back to a team that's at worst 3-1.

Would rather kneel out the game than start Edelman for that reason.

EDIT: also still seems like mixed information out there. We'll see 10 days, they have time. Probably makes sense to get Yates or whoever in here today though. If Brisset's injury is a multi-week thing he's an easy IR.

Between Jimmy G and this it really highlights how incredibly durable/lucky Brady has been to not have missed a single game other than 2008.

No. I don't want Manning to have any connection whatsoever with the Pats other than as an opponent.

And fuck him getting a 3rd ring

You know, 3 weeks ago most of us said here that we would be fine if the Pats record was 2-2 when Brady gets back. Now they are guaranteed to be 3-1 at worst. I mean sure, I would hate to lose to the Rexies. But it is not the worse outcome. Trotting Jimmy G out there with a sore shoulder may not be the best option, and getting him hurt during the game would not be optimal. So I dunno, it's a tough call on who bridges the gap for the game. I voted for Jimmy G in the poll, but I am not so sure about that.

I am all for this for one reason. The Indy fans who en masse became Bronco fans because of St. Peyton would have their fundamental hatred of all thing Patriots battle their undying love of all things Mega-forehead. I am so curious to know what would win out

Source confirms torn right thumb ligament for Jacoby Brissett. Suffered injury in 2nd half Thursday. Faces likely surgery for stabilization.
Dianna Russini ‏@diannaESPN 3m3 minutes ago
My sources say that Jacoby Brissett is going to be fine. No break, it's a sprained thumb. (No surgery needed) #Patriots
So who is right here? Is it or isn't it a tear? Is it possible it's a partial tear and, if so, does that change how they deal with it?

A good portion of the confusion in these situations seems due to the media's amazing failure to comprehend that "sprains" are often also "tears" and that not all "tears" are particularly concerning.

I think the cognitive dissonance would be a lot worse for Pats fans than Colts fans.

If you watch the postgame in the locker room, you can see the way JB has his right hand on his hip that something is wrong with his thumb. But it isn't wrapped up. Plus he was high fiving guys and shaking hands, with that right hand. I wonder if he high fived Gronk, and poof there goes the ligament.

The latest PFF podcast was a lot of fun, recapping the TNF game.

One nugget: JB7's release time was 2.57 seconds, half a second faster than Osweiler and second fastest this year of all QBs, including JG.

Fuck it and send em all out there.
Put in JG but direct snap it to Blount.
Put in JB and snap it to Edelman.
Snap it to Bolden to lateral to amendola.
Snap it fucking Gronk.
House money, make heads explode.
If the D and special teams play at the same level, we'd end up wining that game 2-0
